So how the hell does scoring work? I can chain the bells flawlessly, but there must be something else since I don't see how people get such high scores so early.

And what's the point of losing all your powerups with the "OH MY GOD" slot?

1 hour and 5 minutes: the time it took for someone to complain about this year`s game selection.

Enjoy!

You pick a horizontal memorizer with checkpoints, you get the whining.

Checkpoints really kill my motivation to play after a death more than anything else I can think of.

That aside, this game isn't quite as awful as I remember...well, the Parodius series I mean. I've only played a little bit of Sexy years ago...didn't care for it, and I'm just not a big fan of Gradius in general. When I saw the selection I was initially really let down, but once I started playing it didn't seem as painful as I expected.

I mean, this is kind of what I signed up for, right? Playing and giving a bit of attention to games I might never play otherwise. Even if I'm not crazy about the game I have no complaints!

If you don't want checkpoints, use Auto rather than Manual, idiots.
That's the last tip I'm going to give you.
And quit whining. Would you rather have the more vicious Parodius Da! over the more manageable Gokujyou, instead? ;p I would have killed to have played this in previous tournaments.

So which is the last MAME version that runs Gokujou Parodius well? Hoping it's one of the SDLMAME versions so I'll be able to compile it on OS X :/

I'm guessing any pre-0.136u3.

Shmupmame v3.0b uses 0.99 and it works fine for me.

I'm running SDLMAME 0.143.u1 on Mac OS X with no problems here, but I'd advise using older MAME versions, just in case.
I used to use WolfMAME 0.106 on a single-core AMD Athlon 3200+ with no issues. I don't think this game is particularly system-intensive.

can't make it work.
tried wolfmame 0.106 game doesn't appear in list.
tried multiple versions, sometimes it doesn't appear, sometimes it says files missing(redownloaded from different sites to try),but I don't see whats wrong, the game is running in last MAME just not 100%speed.
I don't want to try 50 different MAME to get this work:/

No fuckin way, I actually have this PCB and randomly decided to untate my cab. How convenient.

Too bad I've only spent about an hour playing it. I guess I have a good reason to start!

Is there a schedule of all the games or just this weeks?

You still get powered down, so you're still pretty screwed.

True. Just depends on whether or not you want to die several times in quick succession by respawn, or if you want some time to recover before you die again by checkpoint.

I think not having to checkpoint, even if it's just for learning the stages, will be hugely helpful. Good tip.

I can't believe people are complaining about playing Parodius. We've never had it so good!

Also, I'm pretty sure Auto, Semi-Auto, and Manual also affect difficulty.

Rank seemed a lot lower on Auto than it was for Manual. Not sure how Semi-Auto affects rank. Also, not sure if there's a difference in checkpoints for the 2 modes that have them since in some of the games, Manual gets worse checkpoints. But with Auto, due to lower rank, you would have a better chance at recovery.

Just so I and everyone else knows for now and in the future, which particular version of mame should we be recording our inp files with? If I manage to somehow get a really good score on one of these games it would help to know.

No particular version, as long as everyone knows which version you used to make the .inp file. Or some version that has -aviwrite so you can make a video to show of on youtube or wherever to go with your .inp file. Or some version of WolfMAME if you'd rather make the MARP guys happy.

Not as far as I can tell, but if you're going to be posting some gigantic scores (like mine, they are going to be earth-shattering :o ), you might want to record INPs.
