Best place to obtain rare(r) Dreamcast/Saturn titles?

Post by CMPXCHG8B »

Greetings to all.

Question: do you guys have a recommended and trusted source (or sources) from which to obtain some of the more rare Dreamcast and Saturn titles?

Most of them appear to be north of $100 (which I'm fine with- providing the disks, manuals, and/or box if applicable are in near perfect condition). Finding hardware wasn't hard- already snagged a NIB Dreamcast and a used Saturn for $125 total. Sort of amusing that some of the games below are worth more then that... Anyways, here's the list of games I'm looking at:

Border Down (Dreamcast)
Chaos Field (Dreamcast)
Ikaruga (Dreamcast)
Psyvariar 2 (Dreamcast)
Trizeal (Dreamcast)
Under Defeat (Dreamcast)
Zero Gunner 2 (Dreamcast)
Ray Force (Saturn)
Ray Storm (Saturn)
Viewpoint (Saturn)
DonPachi (Saturn)
DoDonPachi (Saturn)
Gaurdian Force (Saturn)
Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
Shienryu (Saturn)
Soukyugurentia (Saturn, also known as Terra Diver)
Battle Garegga (Saturn)

I am a bit paranoid about buying off eBay, unless the seller is otherwise recommended by someone other then themselves (obviously). I've been burned before via them and their affiliates at PayPal, so I tend to keep my distance whenever possible. Actually, I probably wouldn't care if the games were cheap (sub-$40), but some of these aren't, and those are the ones I would rather purchase from either a collector or someone reputable.

Cheers,

Is it too gauche to suggest changing to the title to WTB and putting in trading section ? ... :P

Aside from that, I'm sure some of these turn up on sites like forums in 'other trading' or similar such as neo-geo.com (bit more USA) , arcadeotaku.com (bit more euro), or assembler games.

....

IMHO most of the bigger from japan ebay sellers with photos are pretty good at showing you the actual item... Getting an insured bundle from a bigger seller would presumably be the most efficient way if ebaying.

The only ebay issues I've had have been with vague private domestic sellers/descriptions who aren't running a [side] business.

Try asking around the trading forums here! I see good deals appear on shooting games all the time, and most of the items are kept in good condition because a lot of the people here are also hobbyists and/or game collectors.

If you are picky about condition, simply ask the sellers to provide comprehensive photography of the item before you buy. Most are willing to oblige.

For CMP,

The LE version of Border Down was limited to just a mere 3,000 copies made, hence the high price it commands on the secondary market (even more if it's still brand new and sealed). If you were lucky enough to have pre-ordered to get it on day one of release or a bit later after that, that was a smart move. Of course, there's always the regular version of BD to settle for.

The eBay seller known as 16-bit is a trusted seller based out of the DC area (some of his prices are reasonable and if conducted in person, you can haggle a deal right on the spot). I done business with him personally a couple of times since he stocks the HTF import titles that you mention of the Sega Saturn titles, Dreamcast, Super Famicom, PC Engine, PSX, PS2, GB, GBC, GBA, Neo Geo Pocket, etc.

No it isn't, particularly when these games are not Hardware.
