Pends. I dont like cave or touhou danmakuses because they have a "liar hitbox", i hate it. Psikyo and raizing danmakuses are great.
3rd option for me

Yes. On cave and touhou games, people can pass (with luck) through a wall of bullets. Try it on Dragon blaze or Armed police batrider and tell me what happens :D

Just because they have small hitboxes doesn't mean that they are randomly gone. When you pass though bullet clouds it isn't "luck" you just did the correct movements that time to get through, it's not a dice roll.

:D You've always spelt that wrong Mister Mills.

Non Danmaku for me. Straining my eyes and threading the eye of a needle a thousand times isn't quite where its at for me.

Danmaku for me. I may not have as much exposure to different games as others here, but danmaku ones in particular were what got me into the shooting game genre as a whole, so yeah.

Oh, and if you can pass through a wall of bullets, even by sheer luck, then it's not really a wall, is it? :V
The "funen" part of my name is Japanese, which means "not able to burn". I am slightly pyrophobic, so I tend not to get burned (literally, mind you).

I'm more about the overall experience. Good gameplay, colorful graphics, awesome sound, and I'm totally there. It doesn't matter if it's got three bullets or three thousand.

Non-danmaku. Nothing beats the rush of just narrowly avoiding shots you were barely able to react to.

So does this mean you've disowned Cave, Banana? Have you discovered the magic of Toaplan?!

I play cave for the presentation and music(and 1cc sometimes)

I'd rather play touhou for score than cave for score

Haven't played a Toaplan game yet but I'm starting to like Psikyo for score for how simple the scoring is to understand

I like the speed and flashiness typical to the 'bullet hell' variety shooter; but ultimately, I don't have the concentration or patience necessary to play them for very long. I really enjoy them... for a bit; but I usually just end up back to something more relaxing on a 16-bit system. Something with super fast bullets, unpredictable enemy patterns and checkpoints.

Yeah, I don't really understand either. Older shooters just have a certain mysterious quality and charm that allows me to latch on and stick with them easier, no matter how archaic or unforgiving the gameplay is.

Psikyo is always a good choice. Their games always have something that appeals to someone. If you ever get around to Toaplan, play HELLFIRE

Danmaku. I'm more comfortable with a smaller hitbox. Also more interesting patterns to me, either visually or practically. I'll play anything, though.

I can barely hear the music over the sound of my own shot in Cave :(

Vastly prefer bullet hell. I love weaving through ridiculous patterns, not dying to a stray glancing laser.

I definitely like non-danmaku/traditional shoot-'em-ups over the new, bullet-hell types. I'll play anything, though 8)

Non-danmaku is factually better.

Non-danmaku.

I want to be the one giving bullet hell to enemies....it's why I love Compile shmups.

I like games where projectiles are threatening.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Both, and sometimes games that try to be a hybrid between the two can be good (like g.rev games, some psikyo)

Non-danmaku for me. Prefer aimed bullets that may be slow or fast over a wall of bullets with extremely narrow gaps.
