- Polls will close August 22nd at 3:59am GMT.
Voting rules:
00. If you haven't participated before, read the Background section below before proceeding any further.
01. Use the following vote format including brackets:
- [integer score 1 to 25] [first game title]
[integer score 1 to 25] [second game title]- etc.
- [25] [Favorite]
[24] [Second Favorite]
... etc ...
[2] [24th Favorite]
[1] [25th Favorite]
02. You must vote for exactly 25 games. Your list can contain the games you think are the best, the most influential, simply the ones you most enjoy playing, or a mix of these criteria--it's all up to you. If you can't come up with 25 games, play more and see if you can't find a new favorite! And please, don't vote for the same game twice to pad out your list.
03. Don't vote for games you haven't played.
04. Please be specific when different games share the same title. Any vote for a Salamander or Life Force should be as specific as possible in regards to format and region. Votes for U.N. Squadron and Gradius III are separated into SNES and arcade versions, so specify there, too. When in doubt, be as specific as possible in your choice and we'll do our best to get it properly filed.
05. Vote for games, not compilations that include them. You can't vote for Raiden Fighters Aces but you can vote for each of the three games it contains.
06. Vote for games, not their different modes of play. It's cool that you like to play Raiden III in Dual-Play mode using your feet, but if your vote says all that, I will have to manually fix your ballot to just say Raiden III and that's gonna make me cranky.
- Exceptions are granted for revisions of games that were sufficiently different from the original and received a standalone release.
07. No off-limits games! Please consult the chart below to see if your game is eligible for consideration.
- No voting for:
- First-person perspective shooters (Doom, Solvalou)
- including Lightgun Shooters (House of the Dead, Rail Chase)
Rail Shooters (Rez, Panzer Dragoon)
Gallery/Carnival Shooters (NAM-1975, Cabal)

You may vote for games in any of the following categories:- Non-scrolling playfield
- Fixed Shooters (Space Invaders, Galaga)
Maze Shooters (Berserk, Tank Batalion)
Field Shooters (Robotron, Smash TV, Geometry Wars)- Field Shooters set on a cylinder or torus (Asteroids, Star Castle)

- Manually advancing horizontally scrolling shooters (In the Hunt, Mr. Heli no Daibouken)
- including those set on a cylinder (Defender)
Manually advancing multi-directional shooters (Granada, Kiki Kaikai, Bangai-O)- including those set on a torus or infinite plane (Sinistar)
- Vertically scrolling shooters (Xevious, Cybattler)
- Every Extend series
Gyruss and clones
Tempest, clones, and sequels
Zaxxon
- Fixed Shooters (Space Invaders, Galaga)
- First-person perspective shooters (Doom, Solvalou)
08. You may not vote for games that you do not believe are shmups. If you do not think that Granada is a shmup, you may not vote for it. However, as long as the votes of others respect the categories outlined in rule #07, your opinion shall have no bearing on the eligibility of other votes.
