Exactly. This is the million-dollar question I'd like to be able to answer but I dont have the know-how or the resources so I'm throwing ideas until someone DOES find out the true source.
The first step would be for people who have problems with ShmupMAME 3.x to test an unmodified build of MAME 0.99 and see if it crashes.

In that case I'll try and find a distro of MAME 0.99, then probably MAME Plus! 0.99 by next week and see if I can get hold of my friend's problem laptop which exhibits such features again for testing.

I just thought, "Well, what if I try compiling the 0.99 sources for testing?"

Code: Select all

make: Interrupt/Exception caught (code = 0xc0000005, addr = 0x7707ad8e)

***

Reading makefiles...

Unhandled exception filter called from program make
ExceptionCode = c0000005
ExceptionFlags = 0
ExceptionAddress = 7707ad8e
Access violation: write operation at address 73776f
That error code sure looks familiar :) Oddly enough, I can actually run Shmupmame 3.0b so maybe there old makefiles have something in them that newer versions of make don't like (0.99 is almost six years old).

I think I have some clues. Wolfmame90 absolutely denies to launch at all on my Win 7 ultimate. Shmupmame v3 shows up with usual error mentioned here. I believe it's because the early mame builds used hacks/workarounds for some things that may modern OSes hate today. Now that mame is basically hackfree, no wonder things work decently.

I've had a Vista 64-bit laptop cause issues running Shmupmame, usually it runs the GUI but fails to launch properly for most of the games on the list.

Odd business indeed.

find this runs most stuff great on a W7 32bit laptop. but will you be including the protection fixes from the st-v driver in the official build so rsgun has no issues with the protection?
It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.

Where in the fuck is that thread where you put your suggestions for future fixes in MAME? I've tried the forum search for what feels like forever now.

I suggest work goes toward getting Hacha Mecha Fighter playable, because (surprise for me) it's very broken in MAME.

I tried Hacha Mecha Fighter in the latest version of MAME. Seemed playable enough, but the graphics were a little messed up.

No, it's missing encryption, so some enemies move incorrectly including the bosses on stage 1 and 2 (I didn't feel like playing any further) who are FUBAR.

protection, not encryption. encryption is basically either done or it isn't, protection affects subtle behaviors of otherwise 'working' emulation and requires a knowledge of how the game should behave to fix.

As I said in the other thread simply bitching about it won't help. Accurate videos and detailed descriptions of every exact incorrect behavior compared to the actual PCB are the only way there is any chance of it being fixed in the simulation. Beyond that the only way it's going to work is if the protection chip gets decapped and emulated properly. Expensive, and risky (means at a minimum one board sacrificed), as well as a lot of work anyway.

I'm having this weird thing going on, where my Neo Geo games will never go into fullscreen. This may have been answered in this thread, but I can't really go and read all that.

Anyone have this problem?

I want to attempt to convert all my roms to be compatible with Shmupmame 3b, but decided I oughta ask first before I do something especially stupid.

Is the way to go about it simply to find a set of mame 99 roms and replace the ones I have with those? Or does it require more manual tomfoolery?

Also: Bakraid seems to have quite a bit of lag. ISTR reading about this somewhere, but can't find it. Is it something that can be fixed? Is it my imagination?

There are no MAME 99 sets anywhere I know, but ROMCenter converts the ones you have. Give it the ShmupMAME exe and then the ROM path.

Bakraid's never felt better to me. It may be in your input device; console controller adapters can be especially bad with this.

I haven't used MAME in a while so my apologies if it's a very well-known problem but I couldn't find anything while searching... Does anyone else have problems with Shmupmame 2.2 silently crashing a lot (after playing a few times)? The interface has disappeared a while ago too and I have to run it in Full Screen mode to see anything at all (the menu bar is still gone though), which may or may not be related to the other problem.

(I can't easily use 3.0b because of my stick so that's not an option, and I haven't had any trouble with recent MAME releases)

This sounds great, but could I get some help? As with most remotely complicated things on my computer, this thing doesn't work at all and I'm out of ideas.

Maybe I need a more detailed set of instructions or something.

1. Turn on your computer.
2. Open this thread.
3. Read the first post.
4. Specify what exact problem are you having with ShmupMAME. Does it crash upon starting? What is the error message? Etc.
5. Specify your ShmupMAME version and your operating system.

Right.

I get the 0xc0000005 error no matter what I do. Actually, just now it randomly worked, and then went back to not working just as suddenly, specifically after closing a ROM. I'm using ShmupMAME v3.0b and Windows XP.

I'll never understand computers. It appears that if I run it over and over it'll eventually start up successfully, but then the 0xc0000005 error appears when I try to run a ROM as well?

Thanks a bunch! RomCenter's dark magic worked like a charm. Almost :P. Everything works now except for CPS2 games. None of them work, actually. Each is missing ~2 files, which are similarly named to something in the current archive, but it doesn't help to rename them. Eg, progear.zip needs pgaux.03 & 04, when it has pgau.03 & 04.

Anyone run into this? Judging from the google hits on this thread, cps2 games are working fine for everyone else.

EDIT: neogeo.c games don't work either. Hrm...

The CPS-2 is because more recent than the 'XOR' files were done away with and added proper support for the encryption scheme.

mame 99 compatible roms are still easy to find, that being said, keep the rom talk out of this thread (and this forum).

As for fixing the 0xC0000005 error, can someone try "mameplus! 99" on a pc which shmupmame 3 crashes on, if mameplus! 99 works fine, I can probably fix the problem once and for all.

shmupmame 2.2 is based on mameFX and it seems mameFX had some problems with the app staying active even after you close it, you might want to check your task manager after you close it to make sure it has terminated properly, having multiple instances running at once will likely cause those problems mentioned earlier.

On an i3 Core laptop I sometimes receive the 0xC0000005 error - if it does not occur in the begining, it never occurs, and the restarting of the PC always helps.
Will someone be pleasant to tell me in a short how to check the FPS in ShmupMAME 3.0, as to see how much lag there is in a specific game?

I apologize if this has been covered and I just missed it, but I've been having all sorts of issues with savestates in Batrider. My title screen state I set up for rank reset wigs out half the time and none of the states I've created for bosses ever work at all. I'd really appreciate any information or help with this.

Excuse me guys, a question?

Anybody knows why everytime that I load a rom in ShmupMame 2.2, MamePlus 0.121 and MamePlus 0.141, my pc restarts automatically?
With ShmupMame 3.0b I don't have this problem. But with the versions that I had mention yes, including Mame Plus XT 0.143...
I searched on google for this problem but I can find a solution for it :S

You're using a Geforce 6 series card on XP with the latest Nvidia drivers?

They're buggy, use older ones.

Just assuming here, because this has cropped up quite often recently and affects one of my machines.

Actually, I had to update the drivers a few days ago because my pc was formated and my Counter Strike 1.6 was not working fine. So I installed the newest...
My friend suggested that that could be the problem, the lastest drivers.
I have a GeForce 6100 nforce 405 and I installed the lastest dirvers: 275.33 and I think that the problem started...
I installed version 270.61 and the problem persists.
What version do you think I should test?

EDIT: I fixed the problem installing version 185.85 ;)

I've found save states to be quite wonky with all of the raizing trio. I think I've read that it's one of those games for which save states aren't really supported. Loading the same state doesn't have consistent results. I think you've gotta just reset the states now and then, and hope. :|
