Re: Ultimate shooting collection US localization
I have it; it's great. Plenty of screen & game options. Can use damn near any controller that works with a Wii (including GC's ISTR). I can't speak to the fidelity of the ports, since I've never played the originals, but it seems spot-on and is very responsive.

Just be aware that if you want to play with the screen in tate mode, the option is hid behind a secret code. Other than that inconvenience, they play fine.
Chaos Field is not identical to the GCN version, but I honestly don't remember which is more accurate.

Re: Ultimate shooting collection US localization
The Gamecube port of Chaos Field is missing a particular flash effect when you cancel bullets, but it's a very minor loss. Although the version on Ultimate Shooting Collection is more faithful, I would argue the Gamecube ultimately has the best port because they removed all the slowdown and cranked the music up so it's more audible over the sound effects. It's also got a fun Original mode. Finally, the difficulty mode selection for Chaos Field in Ultimate Shooting Collection doesn't seem to actually WORK.
Ultimate Shooting Collection is worth it alone just for the best versions of Radirgy and Karous though. They've removed just about all the slowdown from Radirgy and a significant amount from Karous too. If you're interested in a straight arcade port of Chaos Field with no meaningful options, then you'll enjoy it on the collection too.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Wait, you CAN get actual tate mode in that game? That's the main reason I haven't been playing it, I thought you could only do fake tate with rotate controls :O
As far as whether it's worth getting...Chaos Field is the least enjoyable game on the collection, so if you had any fun with that game at all you should enjoy it as a whole. I personally enjoy Radilgy a lot, and while I haven't spent much time at all with Karous it seems like a pretty fun game as well.
Here's hoping we get a localization of the second Milestone collection through some miracle.

That's an outstandingly stupid decision on the localizers behalf (unless it was like this in the original release as well? I certainly hope not.) but is much better than it simply being absent entirely. Really I can't begin to fathom the logic here.

I think the logic is "people will break their TVs or hurt themselves". I remember in the Layer Section manual it had instructions on how to do it, and featured a picture of a TV going up in flamesDeca wrote:That's an outstandingly stupid decision on the localizers behalf (unless it was like this in the original release as well? Re: Ultimate shooting collection US localization
PS1 Raiden Project had a good one as well. You had to read through a giant in-game legal disclaimer and "agree" before it would enable tate, and even then it wouldn't rotate the controls.

Re: Ultimate shooting collection US localization
Can rotating a normal CRT TV really do any actual damage to it provided it doesn't fall over?

Your more likely to damage your back then the TV. There are health and safety issues with it.

Using a PSX Gameshark device and the proper codes, it's possible to properly rotate the controls if you're playing in tate with the USA version of PSX Raiden Project.Jeneki wrote:PS1 Raiden Project had a good one as well. With the Win95 version of Raiden II from Interplay, you can still tate it but the controls won't be correct (since it's based off of the USA version of PSX Raiden Project anyways).
