What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Now I could sure use something like that for Gumshoe, if compatible.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Just opened my 72-to-60 pin converter and lol the thing doesn't even need components: it's just a rewired connector to fingerboard. Makes we wonder how crappy the compatibility is.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
So recently I've had a change of heart and decided to go with Famicom AV after all (less jailbar vulnerability from RGB mod... according to reports) on top of that I value the hardware design more. Still gonna keep the NES around for further nostalgic purposes.
I've already purchased the Family Computer AV unit. All that's needed is a Famicom>NES converter for playing NES games on my FamiAV. The problem is finding one, it's almost as if they all dissapeared off Ebay. I seen an auction for the blue one around a month ago. Commited to buy it and was about to pay for it the following day. All of the sudden, when I initiate payment the thing was removed from the site. o_O The hell is going on there? Anyways after that I couldn't find any... if any of you guys have one you don't mind selling hit me with a PM.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Too bad the adapters on stoneagegamer are allegedly spotty with the Famicom AV; they're still in stock. I wonder why the AV is pickier...
If you're desperate and/or cheap it looks possible to wire up your own adapter. There are a couple examples of this on benheck.com; one using a 72-pin card edge, one with two floppy drive cables (!). Though keep in mind that these were used to for NES-on-a-chips; I have no idea if this approach would work with an actual Famicom, let alone a Famicom AV. If it would work at all I guess you'd need a Famicom donor cart for the 60 pin card edge, as I doubt you'd want to just solder the 72 pin connector straight to the console like Ben did!
Sorry, this post probably isn't terribly helpful...

What about this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/NES-Famicom-Game-Co ... 4aacd3dbfb
Famicom to NES Nintendo Cartridge Converter/Adapter
Might this allow me to play my US NES games on the Famicom AV? I wish the sellers descriptions weren't so vague. I tried asking the seller but no response.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Its got the ribbon, its most likely supposed to go into an NES to play famicom games.
Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Nope, it's the opposite. Even says it in the title; "Famicom to NES". You're looking for "NES to Famicom", like this one: http://stoneagegamer.com/nestofamicomco ... 0-pin.aspxRock Man wrote:What about this?

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Just note that the stoneagegamer one works poorly with the av fami in my experience - you have to put it in very shallow, or it wont make the correct connections. The clear black one is the best (that drakon guy somehow has like 3 of them from what I saw in his videos, maybe he knows how to get them easy.)
Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Thanks for the tip fellas, I'll try a few things.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Sorry for the double post fellas. Just got one more question.
Some converters I've seen only work with the NES cart facing BACKWARDS, but this converter has the words "front" and "back" written at each side. It seems like I can just insert an NES cartridge normally with the art label facing front. Is this accurate?
EDIT: Nevermind figured it out. It really is as straight-forward as it seems.
After a painstaking process I managed to score a black one. But I want to play it safe. What's the best method for setting up this bad boy?Zapf wrote:Just note that the stoneagegamer one works poorly with the av fami in my experience - you have to put it in very shallow, or it wont make the correct connections. Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Is the US top loader that much worse with the RGB mod?
I'd decided to use that one, cause it plays just about every problematic cartridge without any issues, and of course its smaller size.
Video sync and audio might be a tad more difficult to pull from the board than the AV famicom, but since I don't need the RF modulator I assume I can just take it from them.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
In a word, yes. The AV Famicom greatly reduces jailbars. Of course the severity is determined by whether or not you're using a competent PPU Chip. None the less the Famicom aids in covering up those pesky interference lines.Sumez wrote:Is the US top loader that much worse with the RGB mod?
Good thing too, the RF in the NES 2 messes with the video.Sumez wrote:I'd decided to use that one, cause it plays just about every problematic cartridge without any issues, and of course its smaller size.

Re: What converter is needed to play NES games on Famicom AV?
Speaking of nes -> fami converters, there are a whole lot of family converters suddenly on ebay. These are really nice, if a bit bare: http://www.ebay.com/itm/60-72-Pin-Famic ... 500wt_1407
