I love this game, it's fantastic. What's your WR score?

Cool thanks! I can't remember if the score loops with the game once finished - if so, how many loops did you go to achieve that score?

Top Honors:

Run 'n' guns: Contra (NES) - 1st loop NO MISS + 1cc-ing at least 5 loops.*

First-person shooters: Beating Quake II on Hard Difficulty* and finishing the first episode of Doom with UV-Max*.

Shmups: 6-ALLed Magmax for the NES reaching 21 areas and beating Twinbee Da!! PSP on Hard.

Strategy: Beating Muteki-Oh Tri-Zenon (even though the subs are on Japanese, I still understood what the commands do) without any casualties (see my YT walkthrough) and beating 7 Brutal opponents as 'Allies' on Red Alert 2.

Honorable Mentions:

5) 2-ALLing XOP Black.
4) Beating Magical Chase without using a single cherry and remedy.
3) Beating Darius Plus with a decent score and without a scratch.
2) No missing Space Invaders Extreme for the PSP.
1) Beating Thunder Force AC without a single scratch.

* I might plan on doing this again.
Nice. I no missed Contra for NES years ago. I'm actually contemplating sitting down and going for it again with a camera. The main things that stop me are the two semi 3-d levels. They're so boring and break up all of my momentum. Other than that I think I can get it again.

A few nights ago for my ex-room mate's birthday we got a bunch of beer and sat down to beat Ghost's N Goblin's for the NES. We hadn't done it since back in high school... Man is that game evil. It took us 8 hours and we didn't finish until 4 in the morning (the beer was counterproductive I think. And yes I did get up at 5 to go to work.)

We played again lastnight, and being sober, and having 8 hours of practice we did a lot better. We beat the first loop in just 45 minutes. We're aiming for the both loops in 1.5 hours. That would be a nice accomplishment.

Aliens (jap) have 2 loops only (12 stages), then end.

Thanks! :D Emulation is now the only way to get me noticed more since I sold my cart. This is one of my favorite run-n-guns I've ever played in one sitting. OH, and if you reached the 5th loop, you cannot gain extends anymore and it's difficulty is equivalent to the later series.

getting over 66,000 $ in Crazy Taxi with BD Joe on the arcade defaults.

Harder then it sounds! Still want to buy a racing wheel for dc and try that way though.

I've got some nerd pride for clearing all of Contra Hard Corps' (US) routes back at release. Not that I consider it a particularly tough game today, but stupid kid me would've happily cheated my way through all $80 of it with the non-US 30 lives and level select codes mistakenly printed by magazines - I turned to them after failing to kill the Junkyard boss like twice. Glad they were removed, in retrospect. Now in discussions about oldschool Contras I can be all "LIFE BARS ARE FOR WIENERS BRO"

I guess a more modern example of this would be 100%ing Shinobi US (PS2), which made Che Chou at EGM go "aouhh, my anus is burning, please stop Mr. Overworks~" and led to the PAL version chopping out the badass third difficulty tier.

Ah right, that's interesting to know. I've got to the last boss but never got the 1cc unfortunately. Must try harder. One more question, does the 2nd loop have any differences? I played into it a bit before but it seemed the same to me.

Not is the same... more difficult. Some enemies are faster and more resistant.

I used to be able to 2CC the USA region Hyper Dyne Sidearms with a usual score of 1,400,000+ back in 1988. This feat was accomplished before hearing about the SA bug where you can ram your mecha unit into the final boss, Bozon, and score even more points floating around on the Net. Back then, the American video/arcade gaming magazines really didn't cover insider tricks to the arcade PCBs as they were found by trial and error by spending lots of quarters to discover them.

Used to 1LC the arcade PCB version of Heavy Barrel and pick up all six pieces of the Heavy Barrel super weapon to use on the final boss back in 1989-1990. It was just a matter of memorizing where all the parts were. Heavy Barrel PCB Factoid: It's possible to collect/assemble the Heavy Barrel weapon twice during a single arcade gaming session of HB.

Got to Round 31 with an average score of 430,000+ points on a single credit of American Technos' Blockout PCB back in 1991-1992. If you could score the maximum of 20,000 points on the Bonus rounds of Blockout, that was considered perfect.

1CC the Atari Games PCB version of Klax at the Regency Game Palace arcade in May of 1994 with a score over 6,000,000+. On Wave 100 with the minimum requirement of scoring 250,000 points or more, I barely managed to excute two Super multi-colored Xs using a wild tile twice and all four drops out of five were lit...so that cranked up the tension factor quite a bit. My countless practice sessions on the Tengen NES game of Klax helped out to pull off this 1CC feat on the arcade PCB version. Took about two to two & half hours of non-stop gameplay to pull off this 1CC Klax PCB record. This particular Klax 1CC/score was never officially recognized by Twin Galaxies anyways. I still regard this Klax 1CC as a personal best.

I used to finish in 1st place on the advance course of Konami's Racin' Force PCB conversion kit at the Electric Underground arcade back in 1994-1995. The AI cars were notorious for not budging though...if you got tangled with them, it meant losing valuable speed and time to reach the finish line/checkered flag (especially on the final lap). Awesome GT spec racing game if the required steering wheel/shifter knob + gas/brake pedal setup is properly in place to pull it off.
