A note about the XRGB2 + SLG3000

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I just noticed on my XRGB2 that the option AFC sorts out the wobbly text at the top of the screen by shunting the red square to the left.

Its a lot of cabling though. Not sure I would get my Genesis, XRGB2, SLG3000 out anytime soon after this test.

Other than that how does it perform with the XRGB2? What kind of monitor are you using? I plan on getting one for use on my XRGB2 as well.

I was impressed, sorta.

The XRGB2 does quite a good job on its own of creating scanlines. If I disabled the XRGB2 scanlines not much happened as the SLG3000 kicked in anyway doing roughly the same thing. However, turning the knob on the SLG3000 allows you flexibility with scanlines by altering the intensity.

So really its like having the XRGB2 on its own, except with a volume knob added for flexibility. PQ was sharp and very stable.

Some adjustments I made were -

AFC - To the left to stop wobbling text
Black - Since using 16:9 TV I darkened the black video to the point that it was indistinguishable from the borders.
H.POS - Moved the screen so a grey border was invisible on the sides.

I couldn't get rid of the grey border on the bottom. But its not that much of an eyesore.

Main concerns.

I had to get a lot of cabling out. XRGB2, Genesis, jp21 lead, VGA x 2, SLG3000, 100V stepdown, multi way 110v adapter, 2 transformers. By the time I finished setting up my bed was covered with cable ties and boxes. I hardly get this stuff out anymore.

Equipment used -

Sony HDTV KDL40W4000
Genesis 2 - RGB
XRGB2
SLG3000

I think most people would be very happy. If using a VGA monitor you should be able to create a perfect image by moving the screen around to hide the grey border on the bottom.
