Yeah the tuna is hilarious
Played Bayonetta lately so I interrupted my quest for getting all the swords in 3DDGH - will pick up soon.
Maybe until then someone finds out how to get the frickin' Moonlight Sword. An other one that is giving me problems is the Dragonkiller - do I really have to beat ALL 5 block defense mini-games without taking damage?! Are they serious?! Wave 25 totally destroys me on most of them...

Oh god, seriously? Those mini-games aren't easy, and while they're not too bad, I didn't find them to be fun for more than a few minutes at a time... guess I'm not getting that sword. :?

I actually quite like them - gets very frantic and loads of fun if you buy multiple lightning & quake towers.

Speaking of minigames and unlocking swords: There's a sword to be got if you beat both "Dashraces".
Seems impossible at first but it's doable with a perfect run and lots of skill. Hoewer! If you don't have the patience for this, simply position yourself in the middle of the startline and dash towards the trafficlight!

The sword you get with the above mentioned method is crap in combat but it let's you move and dash faster. You'd have to level it's special at the blacksmith to notice any real difference tho. The only practical use I found for it is to make your life much much easier in the Breakout minigame (it's called Block Destroyer IIRC).

I've been curious about this game. Is this a Zelda clone through and through (minimal story, dungeon puzzle after dungeon puzzle, few characters, traditional monster enemies)? Is it the sword collection aspect that's appealing (much like why Monster Hunter is such a hit in Japan)? I can see why some folks would like it but finding Zelda games boring, I'm trying to find a reason to get this but can't come up with any.

While it really is a plain ole Zelda I clone, there's some aspects that are being expanded upon like the towns with a rather large number of NPCs (for zelda standards). Or the various upgradable swords, the bestiary (you have to actually beat the enemies with the bestiary-book into a pulp to register them, how cool is that (^_^) ), and let's not forget the more charming aspects of the game like the character editor and the parodies.

The game is really more about charm & parody than anything else but it surely isn't lacking in the gameplay department either. About the "Zelda is boring" part, I actually agree with you there and I was pretty surprised that 3DDGH feels a bit more faster and action-packed despite really playing like Zelda I.

The only negative points I'd give to the game have mostly to do with it being a bit too much like Zelda in some areas; the dungeons are basically all same-ish except the color palette, puzzles aren't much more than just pushing blocks or using the right subweapon, the bosses have a max of 3 attack patterns (first three bosses have only 2 IIRC) except the final boss battle, that one was really fun and more akin to a later Ys.

Still...great game, especially if you decide to pick up the NA version at such a great price.

Thanks for the insight; I guess I'll hold out for now. It's strange because I'm a huge fan of Armored Core but can't find interest in anything else From Software puts out.

probably too late as the online servers get taken down in Feb, but Chromehounds (released by Sega) is fantastic.

It's an extremely slowed down AC with the strong emphasis on online.

as an offline game it's pretty much garbage though - so unless you can find a very cheap copy and have time to burn then probably not worth it right now.

Still one of the best games this gen for me.

Not even Demon's Souls?

Nope, I'm no hypocrite. King's Field never did anything for me and Demons Souls shares the same concept and atmosphere (although the mechanics are entirely new). It's too bad because I really wanted to like the game and give Atlus my money but just couldn't muster any interest; it'd be a complete waste in my hands, like feeding caviar to a cat.

Bump! Been playing the hell out of this lately. Very fun game.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get all the swords in a single playthrough? You need like 90 blocks to get all the swords from King Block, can you find that many without going into NG+?

Also, I'm looking desperately for the longer wire rod. I've explored every part of the map now and the only thing I'm missing are the mini-games from the cat in the castle. Do you get the longer wire rod from him?

Please don't spoil me, I just want a yes or no answer to the questions above. Thanks.

No. Don't slack off while exploring.

Cheers, those were the answers I was hoping for. Not really in the mood to do the cat mini-games for now, they're bloody hard.

Off to exploring then.

I'm pretty much done with this game, myself (Spelunker Mode done me in, I think it's safe to say), but I am curious about getting all those blocks in one playthrough...I know you can sometimes win one randomly from a Blue Dragon, but that's the only way I can think of getting so many. Maybe it has something to do with that weird rock you can attack...never figured out what the heck to do with it.

What REALLY ticked me off, though, was the Bestiary...I filled up all the spaces, only to be met with a "COMPLETE...?" designation. No idea what I missed, and I don't care. :P

I completed the bestiary so I know what you're missing. Mind getting spoiled?

The impossibly obnoxious water effects made me turn the game off. I haven't touched it since.

In purely practical terms it doesn't matter, as I'm unlikely to go back to the game, but in truth I'd rather not know, as it'd probably just keep me up at night, heh.

You're beginning to sound like Siren. We don't need any more of that, I'm sure.

What is a game if it isn't enjoyed? Well, I'm pretty sure it isn't my loss considering the game itself was practically free, but that's not the point. FedEx shipping cost almost the same price as the game.

It isn't merely the obnoxious water effects, I'm really just not feeling it. I mean, I have practically no incentive to go back and play through this, and I'm not entirely sure why. Perhaps it's because it's another one of those parody games that I'm seeing so many of lately, like Half-Minute Hero and Holy Invasion Of Privacy Batman. These are really idiotic names for games, btw. Or maybe it's because it's not really dot/pixel art, but rather an excessive use of voxels. Whatever it is, and I'm not entirely sure what it is, it seems very hit or miss.

edit: I'm overly tired so I'm not sure how to word this post. I wish I could explain how distant this game feels to me.

Well if you're not enjoying it, then OK, that's reason enough to drop it. Your previous post sounded like it was only because of the water effects, hence my reply.

So after 2 days of fruitless exploring I said 'fuck it' and looked at a guide...and man I'm glad I did, I was just wasting my time. No way in hell I was going to find the Anchor Rod, the princess was long gone and so was the moon sword :( This game is impossible to clear 100% without a guide. At least now I can go play the other modes without fooling around.

And ZOM, telling me that I was slacking off was just evil.

EDIT: By the way, I only realized it today, but some of the loading art are references to other games. Very cool stuff.

I love this one:

Believe it or not I actually managed to find the Anchor Rod without a guide (then again the "trick" to finding it was similar to a hidden treasure in Final Fantasy IV, so maybe having played that gave me an advantage), but there's a load of other stuff I missed, and I refuse to check an FAQ, heh.

Well, you just didn't step on that one "tile" to find the way to the Rod upgrade. :P
I found it without help too... but agreed, 100% not gonna happen without a guide. Especially that darned Moon Sword, they even lowered the requirements in the western versions.

About the loading screens, pretty much all of them are references to game-cover art, but some are a bit more obscure than others. (at least in the Japanese version)
