Any better scanline options for ZSNES?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I'm happy with Magic Engine's, and I found some great plug-ins for KFusion, but ZSNES's kind of suck. They almost look like they are changing the color of the background.

Is there any way to add on to this thing, or is there a hacked version with plug-in support?

Are you serious ? I find ME's scanlines emulation to be one of the worst out there, while ZSNES's is fantastic. Don't use the scanline option, but use Blargg's NTSC filter instead. Just go the advanced options, check RGB and disable all the artefacts.

I figured that part out right before I saw your post, but i'm still having problems with the scanlines being darker than others. I'm fiddling with the resolutions, but i'm not having a ton of success yet.

I think Magic Engine's are pretty good, honestly. It's Bilinear filter overdoes it though.

Do you know of a better PC Engine emulator? If so, give me some advice on that one!

Here's ZSNES (running at 1600x1200):

The problem with ME's scanlines is that you define the scanlines yourself and you can't do patterns for irregular scaling. This way you don't get a proper 1:1 pixel to scanline ratio. For better scanline emulation try Ootake.

My resolution only goes up to 1680 x 1050.

I've read and seen pictures of many people with the same problem. I don't know what is up with it.

Anything else I could try? I'm using DS F.

And that picture looks nice. And EVEN. Mine do not.

oh yes, that's a ZSNES problem. You have to try different resolutions. ZSNES is pretty bad at 1050p or 1080p. You might have more luck by setting ZSNES to 960 lines and let your graphics card do the rest of the scaling. You might even try 768x672 (which is exactly 3x the original 224 lines). You just have to decide wether you let your monitor or your graphics card do the scaling to 1050 lines. You can set this in your graphics driver.

I'll give them a shot. I just tried out that Ootake. Wow, that's some good emulation. Is there any downsides to it? Does it run at fullspeed, emulate the sound correctly, etc. etc.? Because it looks great.

Ootake is pretty good by now. And it's still being updated, while ME has been on hiatus for years now.

for Super Famicom emulation, I use bsnes, there are a lot of cool filters and shaders, this thread has a lot of info on some of them

http://board.byuu.org/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... &start=705

just ask on their forum for how to install the filters and which ones are good for one or the other thing.

keep in mind that bsnes has high system requirements compared to ZSNES, there are 3 different versions that are faster or slower depending on how accurate the emulation is

you can find these builds here
