Namco Museum series for the PSX. Being the first home ports to even allow the screen rotation I know about, it wasn't that much of a screwup. They just failed to set the standard.BPzeBanshee wrote:As for shmups that only rotate in one direction, I believe there was a Namco (or Konami, or Tecmo - I get them mixed up all the time and its late here for me at time of typing) collection game with Galaga and a few others that would rotate in the direction opposite of those that standard JAMMA arcade monitors did, which is quite a severe screwup by the port developers there.
By the way, if you play those Type X games on a CRT in 640x480, you might be able to set the refresh rate to 120 Hz for the heck of it. Use MulitRes if your video card's control pannel doesn't allow you to do so easy way.

Stumbled on this program on the hyperspin-fe forums that puts a forced full screen program into a window... DxWnd
I dont have a testbed computer to try it on at the moment, but I figured someone could test it and report back...
And If possible, could someone compile the precise instructions to getting the vert typex shmups running correctly on this thread. Just for convenience
. If not I'll do it soon, but I'm using my phone to read forums for the next several days

Wow, PS1? I thought it was a bit newer than that to be honest. It's no surprise then that they didn't exactly do a 110% job if they pioneered it to begin with.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Namco Museum series for the PSX. THAT Namco Museum was labour of love. They actually translated the likes of Valkyrie no Densetsu and Ordyne to English, but left the Japanese voices. The only downside is that you can't remap the buttons to your liking (bashing the square button in Baraduke is aggravating when the triggers would do so much beter job). There are also compilations called "Namco Museum" for other platforms, but nowhere near as good.

That sounds like a must-have for it's good point alone, now that you've set the record straight Obiwanshinobi I might actually keep a look out for it. Definitely avoiding these other "Namco Museum" clones you speak of though.
And sorry for derailing the thread, even if the topic itself is a bit of a joke for this place anyway.

I've been investigating the issues with Raiden IV for a while. It seems it needs the folder closed and another window active while it's starting. I've made this simple Authotkey script as a launcher. If you need it compiled as a .exe, ask me.
#notrayicon
Gui, -caption border
Gui, Color, ffffff
WinSet, TransColor, ffffff
run, %comspec% /c typex_loader.exe launcher.exe,, min
sleep 700 ; Adjust time here if it refuses to load. If you get IO error, reset your computer and try again.
WinClose, A
gui, show
sleep 7000
gui, destroy
exitapp

Reading the Readme file here, it looks like an all-in-one hackjob to get these games to run consistently but the use of iRotate means it relys on iRotate actually WORKING for your system (and it doesn't work on all systems mind you). You'll need to download irotate to get them working and even then the stability is a bit iffy, but buggy rotation is still better than no rotation.
Thanks for the find though, I'll give this a shot in a little bit. Didn't expect anything like this to pop up this soon.

the games must be in C. ex: C:\Taito\GigaWing Generations and the support folder (dxwnd and bes) in C:\Taito\.
the cfg files for directory must be ended with slash (\). ex:
i cant make it to work unless the game is in C drive. anyway, homura is buggy, shiki is too fast, and raiden IV still behaving as usual.
well, now i can play it on my untateable laptop!

Giga Wing Generations worked out of the bat with me for this but Raiden IV still won't work properly. Using the batch file and the raiden.exe that pops up an explorer window and then the batch file ain't working either.
I think I got Raiden IV to work once and it worked in a window with the "Raiden IV.exe" producing some kind of runtime error. Looks like until there's a more solid way to get Raiden IV working consistently then rotation might not work for it either, though this is only me so far.

Yeah, Raiden IV randomly worked once for me yesterday, but I have no idea why. Gone through every suggestion in this thread.
Re: Homura, Giga Wing Gens, Raiden 3 and Shiki III now hacked
Raiden IV needs that the .exe is called Launcher.exe not game.exe. Also, when you run the bat (if you have a pause command after the launcher), minimize the game folder from which you are launching it, but not the command prompt window. The game should launch and be displayed full screen. If you get a io error then, that's because something has gone wrong with previous atempts to run it, so restart windows and try again.

Re: Homura, Giga Wing Gens, Raiden 3 and Shiki III now hacked
I've tried the wrapper and the games run jerky and slow when rotated. Does this happens to you too? On the contrary, Homura is way too fast.

That and playing it full screen, full res. It's a major step up from that 480 x 360 window- I refused to play PS2 GWG in original mode since that made the FPS issue worse. TG for flat panel monitors being a quick flip.third_strike wrote:Tested Giga Wing Generations running fine at 60fps very better than ps2 worst port.
I'm using a pen drive as D: for the Type X data (my DVD drive is now J:).
Shame about retrogame compilations on 360/PS3 not using a scanline/fake 15KHz filter. The PS1's NM 6 (Encore) not coming to the states was a crime. Dragon Saber and Rolling Thunder would've sold this one on their own. Namco should've kept this series going on as long as the PS1 lasted- maybe even later given the backward compatibility in PS2.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

for homura and shiki III use this file, (aspect ratio a bit off on my laptop though)

Re: Homura, Giga Wing Gens, Raiden 3 and Shiki III now hacked
Raiden IV works fine with the pause in batch file as game.exe for me. As for the rotation wrapper, I cannot get Raiden IV working with the wrapper at all. Giga Wing Generations was a bit dodgy in consistent framerate with rotation but I've noticed on my other computer it runs games with very shoddy framerates when rotated, so it may be an issue with your graphics card.Elaphe wrote:Raiden IV needs that the .exe is called Launcher.exe not game.exe. EDIT: Using joeboto's fix for Raiden IV worked but made it look funny, trying to figure out if it's an issue with DxWnd or not. You can see the models showing up across the screen but the 2D stuff is all in one little box on the bottom-left corner which represents your real position. Weird stuff.

Hah forgot to disable my blue tooth adapter (games wont open otherwise! which is odd)
the rotate app is decent; Raiden 3 played fine, gigawing was fine but crashed halfway through the game. Raiden 4 doesn't work at all. If I use the built in rotate feature of my card, it still doesn't work. So obviously raiden 4 doesn't like the screen being rotated what so ever. A shame that, as I have no rotating monitors or tvs.
Not tried the other games as of yet.

Re: Homura, Giga Wing Gens, Raiden 3 and Shiki III now hacked
There is one difference on Tetris TGM 3 that I noticed between my Nvidia and ATI cards. On an ATI card the fireworks from line clears render correctly. When I play it on an Nvidia card, the fireworks effects come up flat- you can see them still, but they don't glow as strong. Is there some control panel setting that can help this?
Homura does require more GPU power than the other TX1 shmups. After upgrading my XPS 210's video card from its original Radeon HD 2400 to a GeForce 520 (one of the few cards you can put in a XPS 210 given the limited 275W power supply- it says minimum 300W but that's a small difference IMO- it only has about a 9W greater TDP than the R2400), this one started to run at 60 FPS. The R2400 just couldn't handle Homura, running it unplayably slow.
The R2400 would also choke on the opening scene of Raiden IV, running around 20 FPS for the first few moments of stage 1. After the first four enemies had been killed, the game speed eventually returned to normal and stayed there through the rest of the first loop. The GF520 doesn't have that slowdown in the opening takeoff.

I would like to know if there and solution for this too... I have a GeForce 6100 :S
Re: Homura, Giga Wing Gens, Raiden 3 and Shiki III now hacked
TGM3 DOES have input lag.
In fact the original arcade has about 2 or three frames of lag even on pcb.
It's not very noticable at low speed, but when the game really speeds up it's very obvious when your piece moves a bit after you release your key.
The issue is the hack emulates an I/O board. The keypresses are sent to the emulated io board and then from the io board ot the pc.

Gigawings works perfectly for me....... I just need to press ctrl+atl+left arrow to rotate my screen BEFORE launching the game and it will play in normaly. 60fps all the time.
Raiden 4, I use RIV_Launcher.exe and it's working flawlessly, 60fps, no need to rotate the screen before launching.
Homura perfect too...... the only game that runs at about 60% of the original speed is King of Fighters 13, the requirement seems to be higher than other type x games... but man those 2d graphic are probably the best I've ever seen..... simply blown away.

I have a PC with a C2D E8400, 2Gb Ram, ATI Radeon 4670 running windows XP 32bit. I currently have this runing in my Egret 3 at 640x480. Raiden III, Raiden IV & GigaWing Generations all play perfectly, but Homura and Shikigami no Shiro III run, but are really slow. Is the ATI Radeon 4670 not upto the job or is something else causing the slowdown?

I believe the team that did it said you needed at least a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 1-2GB of RAM and a graphics card like the GeForce 8800 for the setup to run correctly.Andypc wrote:I have a PC with a C2D E8400, 2Gb Ram, ATI Radeon 4670 running windows XP 32bit. Anyone else know what the go is with this RIV_Launcher.exe? Can't find anything in Google search and would like to know whether it's an actual runner that loads Raiden IV properly or just the existing generic loader renamed?
