I have a cab with a computer set up in it with a mame shortcut in The start menu, so it loads up first thing. Crazy thing is, when it loads up, the name window is not "on top" of other windows (even if it's full screen with the menu hid and everything) so the joystick and buttons can't select a game. I need to put the mouse over the screen and click to select it before it's recognized at the front window.
It's just the latest version of mameui that I'm using (which also takes what seems like a full minute to load for some reason???) that has the problem. All my older versions boot up proper and "in front" like you'd expect.
Any ideas
??????????

Re: MAME not working in my cab. Crazy prob
Weirdly I've just sorted out a problem where a cmd window needed to be on top when a shortcut was run but it was appearing behind the other windows and I had to mouse click it to get it back on top.
Someone made an executable to get the window back on top automatically.
I can PM you the links if you're interested.

Yeah thanks, I'd be interested! Besides that, ive got everything pretty heavily configured, so I'm reluctant to start over.

Re: MAME not working in my cab. Crazy prob
The loading problem with MAMEUI was solved a few revisions ago, I believe it was 0.142u2 (May 1 2011)
The issue was something to do with the playcounts, so it's disabled in this version, but 0.143 should have it fixed as well.
There's also a new frontend from the same devs called "IV/Play" that you might want to try out. Apparently it's targeted to Windows 7, and sounds like it's got some more cab-friendly operation.
I think the problem you're having is that MAMEUI is launching, and then something else launches after it that's stealing focus, especially if it's taking a minute to load. You might want to try something like StartupDelayer to delay the start of MAMEUI for 5-10 seconds so that everything else can load first.
