21 isn't too late, but I surveying can be a cool job, especially if you aren't a people person.

Now at 39, I figure I'm gonna be a school teacher the rest of my life. Half because I don't wanna jump though anyone else's hoops anymore.

Keeping this on track; my barley wine ale didn't come out as strong as I'd wanted, hence I'm not as drunk as I'd hoped.

On the other hand, I think I've finally nailed down some of the bigger problems in my brewing system... *crosses fingers*

I should mention, I'm a mine Surveyor. Which is much different compared to a PLS. Half of our job is investigating old underground workings in one of our pits. Normally we drill, blast and muck out a 20' bench in a matter of a month or more. But, we have been stuck on one bench for a year and a half, due to the geotechnical engineer using a ultra conservative mining plan. bah, that's a whole other matter.


So I've been trying out various beers, but so far the only one I found that I like is the Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. I think Cmoon recommended this(!). Where should I look to next for something a bit darker?

I should mention that my beer knowledge is zero. I had one of these on my bday, which I really liked.

Well it would help to know what your options are. Do you have a big alcohol emporium (like BevMo or Total Wine) or are you stuck with what you can find at grocery stores? Seriously, if I know the size of store you have to work with, I can recommend some things I'm sure are available in Nevada...if I can get it in LA, you should, within reason, be able to get it there.

If your looking for something heavier and darker, but enjoyed Torpedo, you might enjoy a double/imperial IPA, Russian Imperial Stouts (such as Old Rasputin), or of course Barleywine Ales. Alternatively, you could start looking at European beer (doublebocks, weizenbocks and Eisbocks) or a whole mess of styles from Belgium (the only country where a 'blonde' could be over 9%!)

If all else fails, just look at the abv and the price. Unlike wine, really expensive beer is almost always really good.

I think my favorite thing about weed and alcohol is to look at things in retrospect. Life isn't so mundane when you think about how much ass that or this kicked when intoxixicated afterwards. As far as having those moments while intoxicated, whatever, I just love the feeling of fond remembrance that these things bring.
