*sigh* RROD night.... :(

Post by maxlords »

Turned on my Media Center Xbox this evening and lo and behold...RROD. Sucks ass. It's an original model so it's not like it's a shocker...but I literally have NEVER played a game in it or done anything with it at all but stream movies and TV to it via TVersity. And it's open air on an entertainment center top shelf. Pathetic really....

Ah well.

That sucks man!

Surely Microsoft will send a replacement of sorts (since its covered under their regulations for the RROD-affected old models)?

... I've had my 360 for almost 2 years now... How much longer should I expect it to last...?

My first 360 worked phenomenally three days. So consider yourself lucky.

My current one is still working, but I'm just waiting for the day it dies and switching over to various emulators. Shitty gaming future is shitty, but at least there is enough games from the past to keep me busy for the rest of my life.

If you have the old model and it has the jasper chip you should be fine. I got my 360 more than 2 years ago and its a jasper.

Both my US and J360's, which are around two or three years old by now, are still kicking for the moment...hopefully they'll be okay for awhile yet. Weirdly enough, my PS3 Slim is the one I'm most worried about...

Is there some particular problem with the PS3 slim? It seems like it's mostly the launch ones that get the YLOD or have the BD-ROM drive crap out.

This one was a bit over a year and a half old I think. It's a replacement of a replacement :P I'll call em today.

I really have no idea what kind of reliability record the thing has, but I have noticed that mine gets very hot rather easily (and always has, since I first got it), which worries me.

My early phat PS3 had the DVD/Blu Ray drive die after 2 weeks of use, and it wasn't the only case.

Sony did well to brush it under the carpet tho.

I have a friend that repairs RROD, if you need. He usually charges $40.

My slim is a year and a half old and it's working just fine. Whenever the fan goes into turbo mode I turn the console off, just in case.
