moon diver in the same caliber as this?
No. Uprising is one of the best action shooters ever and Moon Diver is quite bad. Uprising's Sayuri respects Strider more than Moon Diver.

So sad, but true.

Moon Diver just sucks, just get hard corps.

Ugh I don't want to think about Moon Diver ever again.
Such an utter disappointment. http://www.extraguy.com/2011/04/moon-diver/

Damn. I'm glad I skipped Moon Diver then.

But yeah, 600 points for this game is a steal. It's fantastic and still one of the best games of the year.

Yeah, Moon Diver is a huge disappointment for me. It really makes me wish you could sell back downloads--or at least get credit toward other downloads. Also really disappointed with Undead Nation, but heh, that was free.

I honestly wanted to get this, but I'd rather pay more for it on PSN than get it for the Xbox....free multiplayer....

I bet there's several of us who wouldn't say no to some co-op action in the game for the hell of it.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I'll definitely be up for some coop on 360, bought Leviathan when he came out and barely played him yet.

I'm definitely up for some co-op as well, I was just basing my conclusion on the fact that I NEVER find any games when using "quick match". It's easier to find an online game in Castlevania HD than in this.

I'm a bit scared of playing with hardcore shmuppers who no-miss every stage, though. I'm quite terrible at this game (and that still doesn't keep me from enjoying it)

This game is currently free for PS+ subscribers (got a 30 day trial recently). Been playing the game a bit, seems real good. Now I'm on the hunt for some superplays, anyone know where to find a good one? Sorry if the answer's in the thread, I'm too lazy to look through it all. And get this game quick if you're a plus subscriber, I think it's only free till the end of the month.

This game is my favorite game released for the current generation of consoles. Maybe even my favorite game ever.

It was this forum/thread that introduced me to it. Thank you!

Had a chance to play this, and it's pretty bad. Over stretched and dull, looks tailor made for the causals that complain about arcade games being over in twenty minutes. It's a shame because with the new mechanics they could have made a fast, adrenaline pumping game, and instead they made a slow and boring one.

Oh and Sayuri is so dumb. Mashmashmash, boss is dead before it could even blink.

Try Contra 3, Contra: Hard Corps and Metal Slug 1-3 and you won`t think so highly about the subject of this discussion anymore.

The other characters can kill bosses just as fast as Sayuri if you manage your weapons correctly. Some of the bosses are even easier with the regular characters, since Sayuri needs to be in melee range to outpace the Laser/Machine Gun.

And the game is only slow if you're not using your abilities (sprint, dash, vault, tackle, etc.) to speedrun through the stages. They could have chopped a few areas up to improve the pacing, but overall the game moves at a nice speed once you know what you're doing.

If you have to set an artificial goal to make it faster, and even then it lasts close to an hour, I think the problem still stands.

He may have played for more than 100 hours when he uploaded that video, but I'm sure he was playing just like that long before then. I mean, that's exactly how I used Bahamut when I was going for a 1LC until I switched to Sayuri after 25 hours or so.

I don't think running through each stage is an artificial goal (since reaching the end is the whole point anyway). The scoring system is completely broken (and therefore worthless), so there's no reason to stop and kill everything unless you want to make survival a little easier. But that's not as fun.

Besides, all of those movement and evasion options must exist for a reason. They probably want you to put them to good use.

It would be great if the game was designed around those movement and defense mechanics (for example upping the bullet density so you actually have to deflect bullets a lot to survive, having bosses and obstacles that make you move fast and combine your movement options, etc), rather than being there for speed running. But they are not, so you have a nice set of abilities grafted on a mediocre game.

They're tricky though, because you're penalised an extra life point if you're hit when in the middle of the motion, just to make things even more belligerent than they already are.

The game suffers from a lot of sloppy design that you have to work around and not work with, and for that reason I don't see much value in getting really good at it.

All of this has been said already, of course.
