I saw Hanna last night. Loved it. 5/5. I didn't realize it's the same actress as in The Lovely Bones. *scratches head*

I don't know; I just didn't see anything wrong with the plot really.

How was the plot poorly executed? Or explain how it could have been better?

I'm genuinely interested to hear.
I really liked the concept of Baby Doll retreating into her mind to overcome/cope with the abuse
she suffered and was currently dealing with. More character development and history for the
other girls would have been nice; we really knew nothing about them (who are they, where did come from, why are they there). There's a very
brief explanation for two, but what about the others. Baby Doll's past was ambiguous (intentional?). Again, very brief. 10 minutes after the films starts, she's in the hospital.
The dialogue was trite. I'd like to read the script to see how much was changed. No doubt the girls are beautiful and the fact
they're half-naked throughout half the film is a big selling point. But fuck, the acting was terrible.

I realize it's easy to criticize something without suggesting changes. Those are a few things I would have liked to see.

I saw "The Troll Hunter" per a recommendation on here. I really liked it.
Saw "London" - awesome movie. Syd (Chris Evans) loses his girl London (Jessica Biel), finds out she's moving and tries to get her back. However, 80% of the movie
takes place at a party in a bathroom with Jason Statham (drug dealer), Chris Evans and the random ppl that come in, snorting massive amounts of cocaine and bullshitting about women,
relationships, sex, religion. Not much of a write-up but I'm tired. Watch it.

Dumb and Dumber. Usually when returning to old favorite comedies, I find what I previously thought to be humorous to not be so anymore. But this movie still makes me laugh every bit as it used to. It's a very quotable film. Plus, that red head chick Lauren Holly is a total babe.

Watched Dumb and Dumber again.
The Adjustment Bureau - largely forgettable.
Just seen Limitless - Good, but I felt the ending was.....weak, like they didn't know how to end it properly.

Touching the Void smashes 127 Hours.

The lead male's robot-like acting skills were a bit hard to swallow, though, but that can easily be looked past. I highly recommend it to everyone in the forum.
Indeed, the lead actor is one of the absolute worst ever. I kept cracking up because of him. Unless he was intentionally portraying some kind of psychological damage appropriate to the character... in which case he's the best ever!

Still, badass movie. Michael Ironside's gurning during the infamous head asplode never fails to impress, and he's genuinely frightening in that psych evaluation scene.

Caught Once Upon A Time In The West on Film4 (UK) the other night. So damn good. I thought the ads would ruin it, but hell no. I'll need to watch the rest of Leone's non-Eastwood Westerns now - this one was just as atmospheric, brutal and cool as the Dollars trilogy, with another stunning Ennio Morricone score.

Don't you mean that you have your...orders?

It pisses me off no end that Criterion region lock all their blu-rays, as I see that they have released Videodrome. Why they haven't established a European division is beyond me.

Saw Touching the Void about 2 months ago. Good movie.
even though I can't stand James Franco, I liked 127 hours.
Danny Boyle is an excellent director. Particularly his older stuff: Life Less Ordinary, Shallow Grave.

btw Del, how'd you like "I Saw the Devil?"

pretty sure "Duck You Sucker" (good flick) and the Nobody flicks are the remaining westerns
by Leone (besides Man w/ no name trilogy) and I'm amazed that anyone could like Once Upon a Time in
the West as much as Good, Bad, Ugly. But hey, it's all personal preference. Also add my name
to the list of ppl who liked the Riddick flicks.

Movies recently seen:

Rubble Fish (for about the 20th time)
Cashback (10th+ time)
Feast 1, 2 & 3 (all awesome)
The Lincoln Lawyer (good)

TF3

I've never wanted the good guy to get it in the head as much as that twat face Sheia la dork. I'm glad its over.

As for the film itself. The special effects, CGI and what not are good, but the situations and scenarios played out are ridiculous and OTT. Micheal Bay needs a better script and the TF side cast need to have less personality. I don't want to hear robots arguing half the movie.

Its good for 12 year olds. Adults will cringe.

lol! That was my hypothesis as well! :D It's funny how the only scanners who talk remotely like intelligent humans are the guy who opens the door for the lead character at that apartment, and the bad guy.

What I don't understand is this: was Revok the CEO of the company that made Ephemeral? He was acting all high and mighty at the last scene like that office belonged to him. If so, then how in the hell does a psychotic freak who is known for his involvement in an underground scanner movement become the head of a company? I mean, it's possible that his employees were just as crooked as he was, hence the ability to run the company for years without anyone questioning Darryl's involvement.

When the Wind Blows
^ This is really good.

I just saw Midnight in Paris and I ended up loving it. The first half of the movie is...a little underwhelming. A certain actor playing the role of a certain author (I'm not spoiling it) did a horrible job in his portrayal, and delivered his lines in monotone. There was also a scene where Owen Wilson and the French babe who played Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose were engaging in excruciatingly boring small talk that would have been best left out of the film or re-written. However, the two of them do develop quite a strong chemistry throughout the course of the film, which is very enjoyable to watch.

The script is weak in some places, and often made me cover my face with my hand in embarrassment for the occasional awkwardness in line delivery or poor writing or both. At one point I walked out of the theater altogether...but then, I don't know what gave me the urge to go back and give it a second chance, but I'm so glad I did.

It is a charming film that sucks you into it's world, much like Owen's predicament. During the first 15 minutes or so, the audience is lead to believe that this is a simple romantic comedy. Well, there is more to it than that; it has a big gimmick (and that by no means carries negative connotations) that makes the movie so special. I have seen nothing like this film, and possibly no other would ever come close.

Midnight in Paris emphasises the simplicity of fantasy, and proves it is not necessary for all films to be strictly based on what is accepted as our reality. The gimmick may appear silly at first, but it drew me in with its charm.

The main theme of the film is as clear as it is troubling: the noble modern man finds the present world to be unbearably disenchanting, so he looks to the past and all "golden eras" to salvage the fruit of existence. This preference of illusions over reality is what brings civilization to a dead end; but that does not mean that we can't find what we're looking for in the only life we will know. Surprises are lurking just around the corner as the clock strikes midnight.

Four and a half out of five stars.

charlie chong, your list of movies is great, a man after my own heart.

The Gate: watched this recently, great movie, lots of fun. Love it when the dead dog gets thrown on the kid.
Solarbabies: movie sucks glowing balls.. Watch Prayer of the Rollerboys
Hobo With a Shotgun: I have to watch this soon!
Cherry 2000: Fantastic movie, I watch this ever couple of years. I love the semi-cheerfull apox setting. Watch A Boy and His Dog
Sleepaway Camp: I grew up on this kind of trash, watch Chopping Mall
Garbage Pail Kids: lol, you watched this?
Nothing But Trouble: this came up the other day, great movie, love the comedic TCM style family setting.
9 to 5: confused, is this a porn parody? Or, the Dolly Parton movie, 'cause thats a good one also.
The Wraith: Bwahhahahah! Such a terrible movie, absolute garbage.
It's Alive: great series!
Surving the Game: Great stuff! Love anything to do with deathgames, and this one is classic.
Suburbia: grew up watching this, watch Dogs in Space, even better

I also suggest Street Trash.
There were a few more I've seen, but that's my two cents. There's a couple on the list I'm going to look into.

Annie Hall, Hannah and her Sisters, Sleeper and Scoop are good too. Curse of the Jade Scorpion has some great moments also. Basically, any Woody film where he stars in them is usually Gold.

Just finished watching The Majestic. Absolutely brilliant film, from the writing right down to the casting. If you haven't heard how mind-numbingly absurd America was with the whole "If you're a communist, then she's a communist" BS in the 1950s, then this movie should clue you in and leave you dumbfounded. I love period pieces, especially about America in the early 1900s.

Wow, watched In the Heat of the Night on this 4th of July evening (seems appropriate to me.) I saw this film a couple decades ago, so it was definitely time to revisit it. Really surprised how intense the racism is...not simple racism/segregation/etc. but pretty much KKK type of behavior. In part because of that the film is incredibly intense, even though its just about a small town murder.

xris wrote:charlie chong, your list of movies is great, a man after my own heart.

There's a couple on the list I'm going to look into.
thanks for the suggestions i'll check dogs in space but i've already seen the rest  i find it very hard to think of old movies i've not seen(i don't really check post 2000 movies unless recommended to me by firends who know what i like).even a lot of title on my lists are rewatches.
you think i'm bad for watching garbage pail kids.when i was a kid i got that film out and watched it 4 times in a weekend and it wouldn't even track to my vcr properly
