That's because people who write those comments enjoy winding our fellow shmuppers up a lot.ChainsawGuitarSP wrote:I once saw someone say that Gaiares looked like an easier version of Touhou. It's actually fairly common to hear this sort of thing...Obiwanshinobi wrote:As if that comment was real...

I know all too well how easy to wind up are folks around here. Just look at this thread. It'd be weird if nobody out there fucked with them like that.

The comment was probably real. People comment in earnest like that on anything shmup-related thing that gets mainstream attention.Obiwanshinobi wrote:I know all too well how easy to wind up are folks around here. I'm afraid something else is real right in this thread... It's probably only for the better that mainstream attention doesn't reach here.

There is a microcommunity of reverse-fans active on here. They must be active somewhere else too, wherever shmups get somebody's attention.

As other have said that comment will be real but there are trolls out there who love winding up us shmup fans, ive been trolled once or twice on YT in the past.Obiwanshinobi wrote:That's because people who write those comments enjoy winding our fellow shmuppers up a lot.ChainsawGuitarSP wrote:I once saw someone say that Gaiares looked like an easier version of Touhou. I guess that the secret is out that we are easy to bait
Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
And why wouldn't we be? Fans of a genre that is ignored when it is not actively being misrepresented by video game "experts" in the gaming media.....

Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
Most of the vid was pretty stupid but I have to admit I laughed at the "oh, I can just use this finger instead" gag near the beginning, in spite of myself. Sometimes I feel like that could very well happen to me during a game of Blazing Star, heh.
Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"

I can see where this is coming from and I find it kinda sad. It's basically humor aimed at the general douchebag who thinks that a fanatic of x thing is someone to be mocked because anyone who bothers to be passionate about something apart from having sex, getting drunk or playing sport is 'sad'.
I did find the finger part and the asian chick part rather funny, though

There's Touhou fans out there that dont even know what kind of games they are, and have not played them (I know someone like this. I had to EXPLAIN it to him. It was.... sad).
Anyway, on topic,
for me, I just plain didnt see the point of the video, or understand the humor. It just..... none of it made a lick of sense. Didnt seem funny to me, mostly just seemed really annoying.
If the guy had been doing a more "serious" video, like, explaining some of the games in detail, explaining the genre, whatever, WITHOUT all the funky attempts at humor, then it woulda made sense. As it is, it just sounds really stupid.

I have found Touhou fans that thought Touhou was originally an anime. There are absolutely horrible parts of the Touhou fandom. Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
Why do we always split off threads rather than allowing details to exist in their natural environment? I for one, oppose this practice, mainly since it makes archived threads on Worst Threads Ever harder to follow.Exarion wrote: I have found Touhou fans that thought Touhou was originally an anime. Actually, you know what, I'm PM'ing Narroo to this thread. Should be fun.

Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
Been watching Nathan's Keith Apicary videos since the beginning and he's the only character of his I consistently enjoy - although the shmups one isn't his best.
Go watch the rest. It's all acted (Kelly is not his sister and wasn't hurt!), he's a massive video game fan (which should be obvious!) and it's all very much tongue in cheek and done in good humour, he's mocking himself more than anyone else.

Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
I'm aware of all of the above said by cools, but, having watched several of his other videos in the past, I'll still go with what Bridget posted above, as I don't see what the point in this is. The actual humorous stuff in the videos is extremely sparse, and instead of having some point in his theme (like actually showing off various types of shoot'em ups and explaining what makes them stand out) he just talks in a stupid way, makes two or three jokes over the course of the entire video, and expects people to laugh?
Like someone else also said - Missing teeth doesn't make you a comedian...
Look at something like Angry Video Game Nerd (who everyone and their mother tried to copy in some form or another) - his humor isn't very good either, and only used sparsely, and lately he's been going way too far with all the stupid stuff happening "outside the game" with fictional characters - but he manages to mix it into videos that are both informative and entertaining, and interesting to watch even though you know all the stuff he talks about.

i've only seen few videos from that guy, but he's definitely done worse than that.

He conforms to almost all gamer geek stereotypes (except he is seen outside his bedroom) so he's never going to do anything to encourage people who don't play games to play games. But then again why should he?..
I thought it was funny.

Not all comedy has to inform, and if your sense of humour doesn't relate to this - no big deal, it's all subjective.Sumez wrote:I don't see what the point in this is. It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.
Re: Gametrailers feature on "sh'mups"
Quite the thread going here. The remarks about this video giving Shmuppers a bad reputation are amusing because many of the responses in this thread are far more embarassing.
By the way Elixir, the actress playing Keith's sister is in fact a grown woman. Sorry to kill your fantasy. Good thing that at least the anime lolis never grow up huh?
