Do you get a lot of people indulging in that pastime in your presence?

I've grown quite tired of tools on youtube saying "X (always related to the video in question) disliked this video." Do those guys have any idea how unoriginal and dull they actually are? I swear, kids these days.

^ In addition (and I've probably already mentioned this, but it deserves a repeat because of how much it annoys me) youtube videogame "reviews" in which some dumb fuckwit tries to sound really amusing by bleating out several droning minutes of verbal diarrhoea during a poor playthrough of a randomly emulated videogame.

8 minute review that has nothing more to add after the 1 minute mark. Jesus. I don't think I'll ever be able to finish it.
Also, has anyone else run into these man children (again on Youtube) that still think they're really hardcore for beating a game in what they perceive to be a niche genre even though the game in question is really easy? they always get so mad at you too for pointing out the game is easy and INSIST that you're wrong about the difficulty. Effing weird...

Milk goes in the tea after it has steeped. To the gulags with all who pour milk over dry teabags.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
When someone leaves something out after using it. Seriously, I hate that. if you are going to make something in the kitchen, put the damn stuff away afterwards.
It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.

People that won't respect other people's right to be left the fuck alone while they're minding their own business.
Me and a friend were walking down the street the other day and a group of about 12 kids started randomly shouting threats and insults at us. Why? I have no clue, but it's pretty commonplace in areas like this (small towns with enough people to always see strangers in the street, but not enough for people have adapted to respect each other's personal space). Someone will shit on someone else because they can, and because they know they'll get away with it. I don't understand it. It makes me feel sad that I have to share a society with people like that.
What is it with people that seem insistent on infringing on others when they're just minding their own business? I wish I lived in a more thickly populated area where that shit doesn't happen.

I know that feeling. I get dickheads like that all the time. Except these guys are too much of a pussy to even say it to your face; every time I hear someone shittalking me, it's almost always from the safety of their car as they're passing by so I can't do anything about it even if I wanted to. I was however, once threatened to be beat up by some jock for not rooting for a certain sports team. That made my night.

People who talk in their own language to their friends/family right in front of you in an English speaking country. Whatever they're saying is either a) something they don't want you to hear or b) something that might offend you. Or a combination of those. This is for all of those who know at least basic English, but do this anyway.
Either way, it's rather offensive. I was at my local Chinese shop and some guy came in and ordered something like $50 worth of chow mein. The staff said "This huge black guy wants $50 of chow mein, do we have enough?" and the black guy turned around, in (what sounded like fluent) Chinese, and said "Hey, I'm not that big, that's rude." It was hilarious.
I only found out what was said as I asked the black dude while he was leaving.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Where do you live, psy? It's very much the same in lots of northern English towns, except the people who hurl insults and threats at strangers are often so bewildered and angry that they actually want to fight or stab them.
It has a lot to do with normativity; they don't like you because you're not like them. This shouldn't matter enough to anybody to warrant an altercation, but here, rather than just griefing random people for kicks, they're genuinely enraged by their presence, or existence. Cultural backwaters, eh?

In a thickly populated area where people mind their own business, you're not likely to receive immediate help in case of assault and battery occuring to you. When somebody on the street is getting mugged, people in the area tend to wait until it's over.psy wrote:I wish I lived in a more thickly populated area where that shit doesn't happen.

Essex. They seem to have some kind of twisted mentality that they should act like they do because all of these grime rappers that talk about stabbing people have glamorized it. To them, slinging hate and aggression makes them think that they're hot shit and that it makes them like their idols that talk about stabbing each other.Klatrymadon wrote:Where do you live, psy? Funny thing is, if they actually went to any of these areas in Manchester or London that they seem to front like they're from, they'd get the shit beaten out of them at the bat of an eyelid with the way they act.
You're implying that it happens any more frequently in populated areas. People get mugged and beaten up a fair amount here and nobody around here is poor enough to condone it, they just do it for fun and because it makes them feel cool. If you get mugged by someone in the city, chances are it'll be because they actually need money, ergo it's not going to happen particularly often unless you're in a rather run down area. People probably won't bother helping either way, bystander syndrome exists everywhere.Obiwanshinobi wrote: In a thickly populated area where people mind their own business, you're not likely to receive immediate help in case of assault and battery occuring to you. Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
It's not that bad. I went to dinner with my girlfriend and her cousins (that I'd never met before) lastnight and besides the introductions they spoke Vietnamese the whole time. Every once in a while my girlfriend would fill me in on the conversation, but it was all mundane stuff. They all know English, but they don't speak to eachother in English, only Vietnamese. I just accept it, it didn't really bother me. I kind of like listening to her because she never speaks it when I ask, only when she has to.Elixir wrote:People who talk in their own language to their friends/family right in front of you in an English speaking country. Comedians who laugh at their own jokes, especially before the audience does (which is usually right after delivering a joke). It just screams "I don't know what I'm doing up here" to me.

People don't do such things because they need money. They do so because they've been raised by shitty parents (or whoever had raised them).psy wrote:If you get mugged by someone in the city, chances are it'll be because they actually need money, ergo it's not going to happen particularly often unless you're in a rather run down area.
If you were a white mugger, would you be doing your thing in a Muslim or Gypsy neighbourhood in one of European cities? I don't think so, because those minorities tend to stick together.psy wrote:People probably won't bother helping either way, bystander syndrome exists everywhere.

mIRC being shitty nagware.
Either make us pay or make it free, don't be a little bitch and try asking nicely every time I start the program up and then letting me just refuse to pay and carry on regardless.
I should mod the code to show this for a second every time I click 'Continue' instead of 'buy license'

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
OK, I haven't checked this thread in a while. Sure, horse race games and pachislo games are just as boring and stupid as rehashed and repackaged EA sports games and such. There's a glut of dumb games both Japanese and Western. To clarify on why I think Japan has overall better taste in games, they're the ones mostly keeping 2D/sprite-based games alive. If it were up to the West, stuff like shmups, 2D fighters, and 2D platformers would've died out long ago. SCEA hates 2D and wishes it would stop existing. You won't see something as charming as Twinkle Star Sprites coming from a Western gaming developer, unless they are heavily influenced by Japanese gaming and are targeting that appeal . Japanese games (and I'd include Korean games too) have far more charm to them.rancor wrote:Taste is subjective, but I really have to disagree with you here. Have you seen the sheer volume of pachinko / slot machine / horse racing games that populate the used bins in game stores? Someone bought those new at one time. I cant tell you the number of people I see each morning playing those dumb slot machine games on their cell phones on the train. They look like monkeys just repeatedly hitting a button in hopes of getting a food pellet. Do you win anything? No - just that tingling sensation of getting "7-7-7" on a 192x320 video screen.greg wrote:Japanese gamers have better taste in games.![]()

And dating sims.... don't knock them! I actually enjoy those. I've played games like Sakura Taisen and Ai Yori Aoshi and they've been great ways to study Japanese. I'll eventually tackle Tokimeki Memorial.
I completely agree. We vote for these people, so we expect them to have better judgment than this. Whether it's ponzi schemes, real-estate scandals, illegal political bids, soliciting random encounters from complete strangers in public airport bathrooms, or showing off their junk to women other than their own wives, we hold them accountable for their decision-making skills if we've trusted them to run our country.Blackbird wrote:I should add that in the US, politicians are also, for better or worse, looked to as moral arbiters since their laws directly impact what can be considered moral or not.
If Weiner was trying to show his weiner to that gorgeous wife of his, that's one thing. But even if that's the case, for somebody who is so careless as to make a tweet public like that, I sincerely question whether or not they're trustworthy to handle lawmaking, or even worse, issues of national security.
