VVVVVV

Post by TrevHead (TVR) »

I know that this game has been out a while but ive only just got around to playing it and I must say its good, its VERY good.

Atfer playing the flash game Dont Look Back which is a art game by the same developer I imagined VVVVVV would be second rate at the best, the idea was reinforced due to hearing rumours of the game having sloppy controls with sliding / inertia. After playing the game I find the controls to be imo tight albeit needing a deft touch on the dpad due to how quickly the character moves.

Been very similar to Supermeat boy, both using quick restarts with very simple gameplay mechanics which rely on very precise skillfull movements (SMB is platforming jumps, while VVVVVV is gravity). Where the player comes across challenges which are stedily get harder but since the learning curve is so low, its a pleasure to play and its a great way to improve your general platforming skills.

Some parts also feel shmuplike for their precision and simplicity. For example Vendi Vici http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CtiY5D6 ... re=related

The games soundtrack is first class as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37Lyn_cim2A

I havnt finished the game yet, as ive just got 1 crewmember remaining to rescue but im really enjoying myself, especially after finally beating vendi vici after spending over a hour on it which had me fist pumping in joy.

Im sure many of you guys will have played this by now but anyone who hasnt shouldnt hesitate buying this (its also on steam btw) as anyone who loves the cathartic buzz from 1CC / scoring in shmups will have the same enjoyment with this title. (just use xpadder and a controller and switch off the blurred image effect in the ingame options)
