Yeah Konami has done this before.

Step 1: announce game that borders between two ESRB ratings.
Step 2: censor the SHIT out of that announcement, so the rating doesn't get poisoned
Step 3: let the dust settle and the ESRB rate the game
Step 4: whip the tits/language/violence/etc out

Not a single DDR Game released in the USA has been fully rated properly. They know how to game the system.

Yay, now the wife can't get grumpy about the pillow case! It's not as bad as we were both kinda worried it would be with all of the other pillow cases out there.

Well it does have a lot of Diol Twee right behind the Otomedius OST CD. Well played Amazon.

The artbook, looks like we're getting the same artbook as the japanese, with the 60 pages of interview in the back cut out. Which is cool, I mean, on the budget Konami is putting this game out on I didn't expect much translation.

Amazon.com just updated the US release date for Otomedius Excellent to August 30, 2011. Looks like we all have some more time to master other games before we drop more cash.

Amazing. Just when I thought this couldn't get any worse. It looks like Konami has every intention of synchronizing the DLC releases for this game, so the longer the US release is delayed, the longer none of us have Kokoro Belmont.

This is presumably going to be region locked so that none of us smelly Europeans can get our hands on it?

Gamestop is still listing the game as releasing in July, but it's also now mentioning an "exclusive pre-order bonus" - the "T-301 Vic Viper (Aoba Anoa version) playable ship". ...I haven't played Otomedius before, but offhand I thought that Anoa WAS this game's "version" of the Vic Viper to begin with? Guess this must be something different...

It's just a different skin for her with duller colours and orange options. The first edition of the Japanese release got it too.

Anoa represents Vic Viper in General, the T-301 model is of course, a Gradius V fan cash-in. Default Anoa matches the classic, light blue Vic Viper (Pre Gradius V) where as the T-301 version is darker. Hyper Anoa, which everyone is using the Google Translate Meta Lium name for (Which is incorrect, Meta Lium is the Bigcore DX pilot.) May be a lighter blue, but has a super long Powerup bar, and only gets 2 options like the earlier games ports to home consoles and computers.

Now you know.

Bumping for news:

A 50 meg Free thing with a description I can't read, Strarf and Music Pack 1 hit the Japanese Marketplace today.

Also, the US backend stuff for Otomedius Excellent is now in place, as English users show me playing "OTOMEDIUS EXCELLENT" instead of "オトメディウスX"

That also happens if you look at other peoples friends list or something similar, as it will sometimes (and they have to be online I guess) change it from the JP name to the EN name. And if that were the case, it would have been simple if they translate the achs, or its just probably gonna have NA in its title like DeathSmiles.

That's the Straaf Catalog download. It's for if you want to play online with others who are using the DLC character but you haven't purchased it. There's also one for T301 Anoa.

Gamestop has bumped the release date to August 1st, so it looks like some manner of delay is official...seriously, Konami, just get it overwith and whack it ahead to September, to make it a full year since you originally said it'd be out. :P

I am getting this at Gamestop so I can get the T-301 DLC. I know they're going to ask, "Would you like a bag for this?" and then they will smirk because of how creepy what I'm buying looks. Then I will fill out that Gamestop survey and tell corporate how disappointed I was with their service. Then there will be drinks and I will enjoy the piss out of this game even if I actually hate it*. On the flip side, I hear the soundtrack is pretty good.

*I actually loved Duke Nukem Forever, so I think it's a given I will love something more the more bad it is.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Pre-ordered this game at a Gamestop about a month ago.

Now I'm having to struggle with the fact that I really, REALLY am not going to like this game (after viewing a lot more Youtube videos of the series since the preorder) and I'm slated to buy it next (this?) month. On the one hand, I really want to support anyone who's trying to bring 'crazy' things over the border and sell them to the US market, but on the other hand, I don't want to be stuck owning a game I will rarely ever play past getting the few BS achievements, even if that.

I wasn't really a fan of any other specific Konami shooters, barring, of course, the amazing Sexy Parodius on the Saturn, and this seems to be a 3D wrapping up of the NES port of Gradius. It seems to have none of the charm of playing a retro game, and none of the challenge of playing a modern game.

Should I cancel the preorder? I want to give Konami an "A" for effort, but I don't want to be stuck with their effort.

If Otomedius Gorgeous is any sign of what Excellent may be, then you're right in feeling this game will be a let-down. However, I've given Otomedius G a few more chances and it grows a little bit on ya just for the Gradius and Parodius gameplay. The game is definitely not for the harrcore shoot-'em-up enthusiast, but it's also not for the new gamers... so it's kinda stuck in limbo not knowing what it is.

The part that sucks is that Konami coulda done a Gradius/Parodius/Salamander collection a la PSP and I think it could do way better on the market than this new game. Even worse, this may not prove to be a wise financial decision and Konami will choose to not bring worthwhile games into the North American market again using the potential poor sales of this game as an example.

Considering that the PS3 Gradius (which wasn't even necessarily a shmup) was strangled in its crib, I doubt they'd need poor sales figures as an excuse for that.

There was a Gradius for the PS3?! Hahaha. I thought it was all about generic fps and badly-dubbed jrpgs on that end 8)

I might buy it just for the pillowcase soundtrack.

I watched some full playthroughs. It looks like R-Type Final's enemy/stage pacing, but with slow bullet patterns and no threatening environment traps. So if what I saw was accurate and the game ends after one loop, it's going to be fairly boring.
Dimahoo is a fun game.

I somehow doubt that this game could "Do poorly" compared to their expectations. They've stated that this is a fan service release, It's released at a minimal price point, they're not changing things in it, only adding English subtitles (The game already had a subtitle system to begin with.)

I think they're doing a better job with this than they did with beatmania USA, closer to what players actually want and farther away from the focus testing and internal meetings where they try to guess what players want.

That said, if you like Gradius and most of its children, You'll at least have fun here. If you enjoy unlocking weapons and making broken configurations, then there's a lot to do here. If the very thought of multiplayer with 3 people is a good one then you'll likely have a good time with it on the weekends (when the Japanese players are on.) That being said, some of the corners are cut off in this game, and it can be easy. Thankfully the game lets you start on Loop 10. Skip story mode all together once you've unlocked the game.

I'm a fan. I actually shelled out the 80 on the import twice. (The 2nd one was for a friend, and I did get an Otomedius Marquee out of it)

I hope the cheap price localization will spawn multiplayer games with more people, not that there's a problem with this now, but Gorgeous had that problem near the end.

According to Amazon looks like it slipped again: just moved from Aug 30, to Sept 27. Meanwhile, Gamestop still has it listed as an August 1 release. I hope that the latter is correct.

God, isn't that the truth! Quite ridiculous for such a Western-friendly set of shooters.

I'll be playing RFA on my Asian 360 (when I eventually get around to buying it) before you'll be seeing a PAL version sitting on the shelves.

In an age where Capcom can just abort Mega Man Legends 3, and Nintendo chooses not to bring localized games like Xenoblade and Last Story to North America, Konami could just as easily pull the plug on a game they think isn't worth it. I know they aren't shmups, but those were some pretty high profile games that just disappeared from NorAm at their publisher's whimsy.
I have no idea what the fuck is taking so long with this, they're only translating the menus and adding subtitles. None of the voice overs are being changed from what I've heard.

Hopefully that's not the case here, as this one seems more "established" (LE package and everything) than Radirgy was...that said, Gamestop now says September 1st. Happy anniversary.
