Defenders of Avalon

Post by DSTGames »

Greetings all, I have just made a medieval shmup, "Defenders of Avalon" and am looking for some testing/feedback on it.

Please let me know what you think, I hope you enjoy it!

The game is 45mb, in 800x600 fullscreen res (480x600 playfield).
Linux version may not have sound, use windows version in wine to fix that.

You can download it here:

I didn't play it long, so can't say much about the gameplay yet, but here are some things I noticed while trying with Merlin:
  • The player shot goes above some enemy bullets. It looks like you were making enemy bullets go above, but missed some. (Such as the blue shards the dragons on level 2 shoot. Had visibility issues with those spinning purple bullets vs Merlin's purple shots too.)
  • It's hard to tell where the player's hitbox is with a character, and there's no indicator. Could probably figure it out eventually via trial-and-error, but it'd be nice to have a glowing spot either when near bullets or on the character select screen indicating where it is. (Something like Shikigami no Shiro, though it looks like it'd be more then just a 1pixel dot for your game.)
  • Merlin's homing bullets get stuck on the left side of the screen during the 3rd stage's boss fight. (Versus the big green skull.)
  • I think I glimpsed some of the medal sprites covering the player graphic, but not sure.

Fixed.

Added a glowing hitbox indicator when shots are near or colliding with player.

Couldn't replicate this.

Hi, Dude! Here, the music erupts from time to time.

I think I have reported it, no?

Nice game. I played it on my 1.2GHz laptop and it was smooth for the most part but stage 4 ran slowly (especially boss fights) and the sound was crackly. When the final boss started blowing up and the medals came out I went up to collect them and died from colliding with the boss, which was a bit unexpected.

(I like how it`s packaged as a single executable file, BTW)
