I'm just disappointed I didn't see this in theaters. It would have been amazing on the big screen!

I'm in the same boat as you. jonny5. I regret not watching Sucker Punch on the big screen...noticed that it was at my local theater for just a mere two weeks tops. Oh well, watching it on Blu-Ray will have to suffice.jonny5 wrote:I'm just disappointed I didn't see this in theaters. It would have been amazing on the big screen!

I saw it, and I think I posted in this thread when I did. It was okay, just too much mashed together. I really liked the shotgun fantasy settings, there's not enough trench warfare stuff out there. It was just a very strange way to tell a story. I've noticed that everyone who has seen it wants to talk about it. That's got to be a sign of a good movie right there. When I saw with a friend of mine, his wife wouldn't go, and was mad he was seeing a movie full of 'whores'. She just saw it recently and loved it..
It is a dark story, with some heavy undertones, but there's this layer of action-gloss over it. The girls are all superhot, but it seems dirty to sexualize them because of the situation. The story does well to get you to empathise with them. The beginning and end are some deep shit, really well filmed.
I'm a huge fan of Zack Snyder at this point. The man has got some serious style, and ambition to spare. Current news says he's doing the next Superman movie, so that's something.

Re: Movies you've just watched
Imported the new US blu-ray of Once Upon A Time In The West. I don't usually watch westerns, and don't even like Leone's Dollars trilogy much, but this film has been among my all time favourite films for years. The old DVD was over-processed and rather disappointing visually, which makes this blu-ray all the more striking. It's easily among the best looking catalogue title transfers I've seen in HD. It's right up there with restorations like Alien and 2001. But what's most striking about this new edition isn't just the visuals, but the sound. Anyone who has watched the film knows how vital the sound effects are, especially in the opening scene. Now they take on a whole new character that reveals just how deeply Leone was thinking about sound design. For example, on the DVD, the sound of the train idling at the station just sounds like a train idling at a station. On the blu-ray, it sounds like a dragon breathing down your neck; a demon of progress devouring the frontier.

Re: Movies you've just watched
I really liked Sucker Punch as well. I'll give it a weak 4/5. It's the irresistibility mix of dragons and fighter planes as well as the music choices. I've always had a soft spot for Marius Devries sound as well (did lots of nice Sugarcubes remixes way back). Would be really cool with an alternative audio track for the BluRay release.

Watch this movie and shut up already.

This movie had it all! Super fine ass bitches, awesome action sequences, really interesting story line and it was told in such a fresh and original way. This film had me glued from the opening credits!
I haven't enjoyed a new film that much in a while for sure.

Yeah, I really need to pick this up. I saw it at the store the other day and almost had a heart attack. MUST GET.Daigohji wrote:Imported the new US blu-ray of Once Upon A Time In The West. Not trying to start a fight here, but wow, I don't get liking Once Upon A Time In The West and not caring for the 'Dollars' trilogy. This isn't to call you out, but just curious what the draw for 'Once' over the 'Man with no name' films. I think the casting isn't nearly as good, the plot isn't as solid and Morricone's work isn't as incredible as it was for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, and For a Few Dollars More.Daigohji wrote: and don't even like Leone's Dollars trilogy much.

Re: Movies you've just watched
Anyone have the 'Man with no name' trilogy on blu ray? I've heard its a mixed bag.
I just watched Chronicles of Riddick last night which I realized I could only admit I liked anonymously. Apparently My Little Pony is more socially acceptable for grown men to admit they like than Chronicles of Riddick. I mean, I may never need to Riddick again, but the whole visual mix of Dune + Mortal Kombat with completely epic macho bullshit pulled right out of the director/screenwriter's ass at every turn entertains me. The fact a young child could (and probably did) make up this story, and it might have been better acted by chimpanzees wearing human costumes (and who is to say this didn't in fact happen) earns it points in my book. Yes, yes, yes, I know, It's total dog shit you say, but isn't almost everything people watch these days. This proverbial pile of movie may not win out for the biggest explosions or the perkiest nipples (what a pity...?), but it makes up for it by trying to retell God of War via Battlestar Galactaca, and having no shame in the deed. In fact, and this is the final joke I have for you and why Chronicles of Riddick deserves a couple moments of your attention (despite the lack of female nippleage) is that Riddick is apparently the life-project of director David Twohy. Next time to write off this train-wreck of a sci-fi/fantasy/manimal film, remember that you are stepping on someone's dream.

Re: Movies you've just watched
I'm certainly not knocking them, it's just that Once Upon A Time In The West appeals to me more on a thematic level. The motivations of the characters interest me more. The atmosphere of the dying days of the old west is palpable. And personally I find the score to be among Morricone's best.CMoon wrote:Not trying to start a fight here, but wow, I don't get liking Once Upon A Time In The West and not caring for the 'Dollars' trilogy. Well I was actually very impressed with Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen so was looking forward to what he was going to do next. I was disappointed to hear from several sources that it was basically an MTV music video with one of the most retarded plots ever conceived.jonny5 wrote:

Honestly, who goes into an action movie all about hot young girls doing crazy shit and comes out going ' man, that plot was pretty weak and hardly believeable'? Homosexuals, that's who!

Like, did they see the preview and think 'ya know what, this looks thought provoking and intellectually stimulating'?
And the plot was actually very good. You really need to stop voicing the opinions of others when you don't have one of your own...'I haven't seen this, but the people I know have and they didn't like it'... it's pointless.

Just watched the Liam Neeson thriller "Unknown". I loved the car chase (even more after getting the whole plot) and that puts it at a weak 4/5. Definitely worth watching if you like action-thrillers.

Maybe I've "moved" past the stage of finding it necessary to drop $10 to see a flick with vapid, talentless, casting couch trash bounce their jiggly
parts on screen, or maybe I simply don't care anymore. Personally, if I wanna see some hot ass, I'll warm up tube8 and rub one out. However, I agree the plot was good. Albeit poorly executed.
I have no qualm referring to myself as a film geek/nerd. Fine girls are always a plus!

or how perky (or big) the titties, it doesn't make up for a garbage film. It's a bit like getting a toy in box of cereal that taste like crap.

I just saw "Scanners" for the first time. I'm absolutely speechless. That was the best sci-fi film I've seen since Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner." The ending was something else, too. The lead male's robot-like acting skills were a bit hard to swallow, though, but that can easily be looked past. I highly recommend it to everyone in the forum.

Well, it is pretty different than Scanners but same director, same period (roughly). Personally I enjoy Videodrome quite a bit more, hence the recommendation.

It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.
