Oh yeah, forgot about the NeoGeo games. I remember Magician Lord being on there. I think some TG-16 games like Blazing Lazers may have been on the show, but my memory is a bit foggy.Zach Keene wrote:Well, Neo Geo games occasionally cropped up (Ghost Pilots comes to mind; it actually even got played on occasion), but since I know jack about the NG I couldn't tell you if it was running the home or arcade hardware or even if that distinction is meaningful...
Psygnosis was occasionally credited for "custom game programming" or some such. I assume this was for the simple Face Off games, though I can't recall the credit appering when the Face Off was a Pong knockoff.

Speaking of Nick Arcade, did they ever have anybody on that show who could actually PLAY a video game!?. Seriously here, all the kids who I saw trying to play a game, stunk horribly at it. It was as if they never played a game before their entire life.
I remember the consoles being mostly Neo-Geo,Turbo16,SNES,Genesis.
I used to watch the show in hopes to try and get a "preview" of some of the games.

Heh. During a recent bout of insomnia I flipped past a rerun on the Nick GAS channel, where some poor girl got completely pwned by TF3. She lost all of her lives with something like 15 seconds still remaning. Fortunately IIRC her partner was smart enough to only have bid 5 points or so on her performance.

thats another thing i was wondering about, i am no game expert, but those kids were bad players.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote:Speaking of Nick Arcade, did they ever have anybody on that show who could actually PLAY a video game!?. i always wondered what they would do if they got someone who could clear one of the games on display.
and the fact that they didn't use actual arcade games makes sense now, i just remembered that Super Turrican was a pretty common choice on the show...
I have no sig whatsoever.

Yeah, I remember the controversy over that one, though it was diminished by the whole "drugs are bad so drug dealers are bad" mantra that was the early 90's (as evidenced by several arcade games during that era having anti-drug messages in the US).sven666 wrote:hehe OT but i actually have NARC and what strikes me is how extremely violent the game is, im surprised i havent heard of it before as i can imagine how controversial it must have been back then...?landshark wrote:In TMNT the game with the skull was NARC, not a shmup, but cool none the less.

I've got a funny feeling the game in that scene was Space Harrier:Blade wrote: One in particular (although I can't place the name of the shmup) is found in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, during the scene with all the foot clan gangsters with the skateboard rink, the shmup the guy was playing had a Huge Skull in it, but I'm not sure which one it was....Xevious is my guess (I may be way off on that one though).

I've actually got the first TMNT movie on tape somewhere around here (sad, yes I know). I'll have to dig it out and verify.

I have the first TMNT movie on both VHS & DVD. I still love that movie.elvis wrote:I've got a funny feeling the game in that scene was Space Harrier:Blade wrote: One in particular (although I can't place the name of the shmup) is found in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, during the scene with all the foot clan gangsters with the skateboard rink, the shmup the guy was playing had a Huge Skull in it, but I'm not sure which one it was....Xevious is my guess (I may be way off on that one though).

Anyway, reading your post made me remember that in the Disney made-for-tv movie B.R.A.T. Patrol (mid-80's) the main character can be seen playing Space Harrier in a sit-down cabinet; I don't recall what other games where in the arcade (several scenes happened there) but I'm certain there were other classic shmups. I'll have to pull that one out sometime to verify which ones...

SEGA was always very aggressive with tv product placement. You can actually see Saturns, Genesises (Genesai?8 1/2 wrote:I thought that's what that was.ThirdStrike wrote:There is a Viper Phase 1 in Bowling For Columbine when Michael Moore is standing in a Bowling Alley.
On a slightly related note to this topic, Drew Carey used to have a Saturn sitting in his living room.
