Psygnosis was occasionally credited for "custom game programming" or some such. I assume this was for the simple Face Off games, though I can't recall the credit appering when the Face Off was a Pong knockoff.
Oh yeah, forgot about the NeoGeo games. I remember Magician Lord being on there. I think some TG-16 games like Blazing Lazers may have been on the show, but my memory is a bit foggy.

Speaking of Nick Arcade, did they ever have anybody on that show who could actually PLAY a video game!?. Seriously here, all the kids who I saw trying to play a game, stunk horribly at it. It was as if they never played a game before their entire life.

I remember the consoles being mostly Neo-Geo,Turbo16,SNES,Genesis.

I used to watch the show in hopes to try and get a "preview" of some of the games.

Heh. During a recent bout of insomnia I flipped past a rerun on the Nick GAS channel, where some poor girl got completely pwned by TF3. She lost all of her lives with something like 15 seconds still remaning. Fortunately IIRC her partner was smart enough to only have bid 5 points or so on her performance.

thats another thing i was wondering about, i am no game expert, but those kids were bad players.

i always wondered what they would do if they got someone who could clear one of the games on display.

and the fact that they didn't use actual arcade games makes sense now, i just remembered that Super Turrican was a pretty common choice on the show...

I dunno if this counts, but I've seen Futurama do a parody of Space Invaders.

Yeah, I remember the controversy over that one, though it was diminished by the whole "drugs are bad so drug dealers are bad" mantra that was the early 90's (as evidenced by several arcade games during that era having anti-drug messages in the US).

Not to derail the topic, but the best cab I've ever seen was in Grosse Point Blank......and it was a DOOM cab. I don't think I need to say any more. You all can ponder that one.

In Silver Spoons the TV show, Ricky had a Dragon's Lair and an Asteroids Deluxe in his living room.

The "Pretendo" episode of Muppet Babies had a bunch of fake games, but real footage of Fantasy Zone.

There's an Asteroids coin-op visible in the antarctic base in John Carpenter's The Thing.

I've got a funny feeling the game in that scene was Space Harrier:

I've actually got the first TMNT movie on tape somewhere around here (sad, yes I know). I'll have to dig it out and verify.

Just wondering, is there a thrread similar to this, but regarding Shmup apperances/references in non-shmups?

In any case, I played Neo Geo Battle Coliseum the other day, and one of the stages was a hangar. With the ship from Last Resort, ASO2, and some other game! D:

I was watching ep. 4 of Densha Otoko today, and I noticed that one of Densha's 2ch supporters has a Mushihimesama poster on the wall behind him.

That was my favorite episode of Muppet Babies - they were actually flying in Opa-Opa for a while. It was surreal.

How about the little cramped arcade in the truck-stop in the movie Maximum Overdrive?
I think I remember seeing at least a Star Castle cab as well as an Aseroids one in there.

Also, lots of acrade games can be seen in the classic 80's movie ,"Fast Times At Ridgemount High".
Namely Missile Command.

I have the first TMNT movie on both VHS & DVD. I still love that movie.

Anyway, reading your post made me remember that in the Disney made-for-tv movie B.R.A.T. Patrol (mid-80's) the main character can be seen playing Space Harrier in a sit-down cabinet; I don't recall what other games where in the arcade (several scenes happened there) but I'm certain there were other classic shmups. I'll have to pull that one out sometime to verify which ones...

Don't forget the techies playing Centipede on a few screens in the background, within the military compound. ;)

I thought that's what that was.

On a slightly related note to this topic, Drew Carey used to have a Saturn sitting in his living room.
SEGA was always very aggressive with tv product placement. You can actually see Saturns, Genesises (Genesai? :P ) and Dreamcasts all over various sitcoms from around when those systems launched. Something I never really noticed until very recently.
