At first its quite big and scrolls gently, then after bout 6 seconds it goes really small and you end up scrolling a weeks worth of crap.

More broadly, people who act like they know how the real world works, yet the scope of their "real world" generally fails to seriously account for the experiences of anyone outside of their own social class, ethnicity, religion, country, etc..

The reason why RPGs are so cheap in Japan is because of supply and demand. Everyone plays RPGs in Japan. Conversely, look at how much Halo 2 goes for. Pretty cheap, I imagine, right?

Japanese gamers have better taste in games. I think that in this forum of all places, there shouldn't be many who would disagree with that statement.

We have grey-brown FPs's and yearly sports title tweaks; they have mahjongg, pachi-slot and dating sims. And both of us have thrown-together minigame comps.

Broke out the Saturn to do some gaming yesterday. I had recently allowed my brother to borrow it. He mentioned that the power cord was "a bit loose" when he returned in to me. It turns out that by "a bit loose" he actually meant to say "the power supply wires have snapped off." Great -_-.

Taste is subjective, but I really have to disagree with you here. Have you seen the sheer volume of pachinko / slot machine / horse racing games that populate the used bins in game stores? Someone bought those new at one time. I cant tell you the number of people I see each morning playing those dumb slot machine games on their cell phones on the train. They look like monkeys just repeatedly hitting a button in hopes of getting a food pellet. Do you win anything? No - just that tingling sensation of getting "7-7-7" on a 192x320 video screen.

... and dating sims.. really? Go out and talk to a real girl for once.

but.. err.. I hate it when you go to the bathroom and you wash your hands, and there's a handle you have to pull to open the door. Why cant the doors always be push when leaving the restroom?? I don't wanna wash my hands and then immediately touch the door handle where someone put their doo-doo fingers. Use a paper towel, you say? hahah.. this is Japan. No towels in restrooms.

I have to agree with rancor - you can't assume that Japanese gamers have better taste just because their industry has a history of superior software. I'd say they were spoiled for choice through the mid 80's to the early 00's - but that doesn't stop them getting stuck into some utterly dreadful tripe that barely qualify as games at all (the aforementioned dating sims being a good example).

Some of their more obscure interests are definitely a cultural thing, but that doesn't stop them from being games that suck.

If Japanese gamers keep buying those shitty new rpgs that are coming out, I highly doubt they have better taste.

But yeah.. I guess taste is subjective anyway.

I hate it when you have to pee, but when you try, you kind of have to take a shit too. But you don't want to take a shit because it takes too long, but you really have to pee but you can't do it because you might accidentally shit (Wow, this sounds dumb as...poop). So you either end up taking that shit or just leave with a full bladder.

Yup.

I think i've nailed this idea that Japanese or Western devs make the best games or have the best taste in games.

Japanese excel in the ability to take something and turn it into something else. The craft of anime is just animation, but its animation done in their style. In the sprite era and the early polygon era, they had a nack for combining great gameplay with sprites and early polygon technology. But give them todays technology and they haven't embraced it that well at all. There hasn't been a Japanese "stamp" on any of their games which the West can identify with. Once they get that "stamp" on their games again things will take off. As a result the modern gamer only identifies with Western gaming culture.

Team Ueda have a "stamp". Square sort of have it, Capcom and Konami have totally lost it. Namco are following Capcom and Konami into oblivion. Once all the Japanese devs position themselves with a run of 3 or 4 games that say "This is us, this is what we do, its our stamp" then I don't see Japanese gaming getting the sort of popularity it got 10 years ago.

As for Japanese having better taste in games. What is the best selling game in Japan in the past 3 years? I bet it would surprise me (as I have no freakin clue what it might be). The companies I mentioned above don't appeal to me anymore (in the past 5 years at least) and I doubt the Japanese are lapping up their games like yesteryear.

This argument that they have better taste is based on some kind of myth, because where I'm sitting its the niche gamers your talking about.

Looks right to me. Considering, the last time I checked, Monster Hunter Unite was the best selling psp game, and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 was the 3rd best selling psp game. Pretty sure that only covered Japan too.

DUDE. For real. One of the most disappointing things about Japan for me were all the stupid fucking Pachinko arcades. I don't understand it.

Trolls are a very specific kind of asshole - they intentionally try to incite argument so that they can get attention/amuse themselves at the expense of others.

Your garden variety asshole isn't necessarily looking to start fights, but more often than not is insensitive or argumentative all the time.

The uproar over that Weiner chap who resigned because of butthurt cries over him sending girls pics of his ding-dong. While I have zero interest in doing that in the near or far future, I do not think he should be lambasted for being sexual. In that case, let's fire everyone from their jobs because they indulge themselves in fetishes when they get home from work. While we're at it, the silent rule should be that no one mentions or alludes to sex, and when they are asked if they have it on occasion they should reply "Of course not! Dear Leader Obama disapproves of such devilish, sick acts! My reputation is much more important than the fairer sex." /cowardly lie.

If the masses can do it, then politicians should have every right to do it too, without backfire from legions of mouth breathing, hypocritical American men and women. I'm not saying that everyone in that line of work sends photos of their cock to girls, but by a strange turn of events, no one has to fucking apologize to the masses for getting a blowjob except for Bill Clinton. And that, gentlemen, is a testament of how fucked up this country is. I am glad that at least Weiner got a better paying job offer to work for Hustler legend Larry Flynt. I hope he can get on with his life even though his family and friends probably stopped talking to him. The general public has this unrealistic misconception of celebrities and political figures that they are somehow supposed to be perfect and without "sin". The truth is --and I hate to break it to you-- they are flawed like the rest of us, to various degrees.

But who really understands this simple truth? Apparently not the media and countless protesters, because every time one of them does something that is deemed "politically incorrect" (and let's face it: even the dumbest things fall under that category these days. Journalists get their panties in a bunch whenever someone simply criticizes Justin Bieber's voice), the lot of them start screeching and throwing their feces like angry monkeys in a cage.

Anyone who is offended by what he did is either an elderly feminist who hasn't gotten dick in decades, or a total retard that belongs in a circus. Seriously, back away from your T.V. with Fox News on it and get some fresh air.

o_o... -_-... You know better than this ^, man.

Last I checked, mailing pictures of your genitals to people is a serious crime. Politicians are involved in law-making, therefore, they are expected to be especially lawful, more so than other people. It wouldn't do to have criminals making laws, after all. That would just be comical. I would find it more appalling if he -weren't- fired/resigned.

I don't think that what he did is particularly wrong. I think the main issue is that he was stupid enough to get caught. You would expect that people in high positions of power would have more sense. I mean you would expect a high school kid to get caught sending pictures of his dick to random chicks. You have to hold these guys to a little bit of a higher standard.

True. He could have just discretely hired a prostitute if he was that horny, and probably no one would have known. It is a little juvenile, but I wouldn't fire him over it if I was his superior.
Politicians are involved in law-making, therefore, they are expected to be especially lawful, more so than other people.
As much as I hate to admit it, you're absolutely right. I'm sure he knew the rules when he signed up for that field of work, and he should have been even more aware that this would contradict everything that he (supposedly) stood for (granted you are correct about that act being a criminal offence).

EDIT: Though I certainly wouldn't call it a "serious crime." Don't you think that's being a little too melodramatic? I mean, killing someone counts as a serious crime, but not something as silly as this.

Nah, that would imply that porn couldn`t legally be sent via mail (or electronically, as in this case), which it obivously is. I think it would only be a legal issue if unsolicited or if one or both of the parties involved were under 18.

I think the real problem here is not that the congressman was exchanging naughty pics, but that when it was discovered he denied it and fabricated some story about being hacked. So basically, he didn`t approve of his own behavior, he just thought he could get away with it. Kind of like how Gov. Spitzer didn`t advocate legalizing prostitution, he just thought the law didn`t have to apply to him.

If not for that aspect of it, I would argue that one`s private sex life has nothing to do with their job and shouldn`t be a concern.

Let me clarify the situation to make sure that I understand it completely. Were the women receiving the pictures willing or unwilling?

If he is sending the pictures unsolicited, then I don't see how what he is doing is any different from flashing people on the street. It's sexual harassment. That's a crime.

If the pictures -were- solicited, then this is embarrassing and crass, but probably not criminal.

I should add that in the US, politicians are also, for better or worse, looked to as moral arbiters since their laws directly impact what can be considered moral or not. Many people want certain things declared illegal, so that they can point to those laws and use them as evidence against behavior they consider immoral. Conversely, you also have people who want to legalize things that they consider morally acceptable, but others have seen fit to exclude.

I'm not really disagreeing that people get entirely too worked up about minor misdemeanors on the part of politicians (particular when they regularly get away with far greater offenses), but I can understand where they are coming from.

Mostly has to do with the fact that he's married. That is the factor that turns it from "well that's a little odd..." to "well that guy probably shouldn't be representing me". I somehow doubt he would have gotten elected in the first place if people knew he had sent pictures of his cock to girls while he's married.

Also, he's a gigantic smartass who tries his damnedest to verbally "pwn" people to the point that I don't see how anyone can like the man.

Product countdowns on homepages. It kinda works to start hypetrains for games, maybe even movies before a certain show/frestival. But for physical products? Srsly.

Also, fetishes that involve fitting dicks into aluminum coke cans.
