Played Wipeout for like 10 hours... fun game, but damn, those ship-physics are annoying. To me, DDP is to Euroshmup with interia as F-Zero GX is to Wipeout HD. But it's certainly a fun game, and look beautiful.

I finally got around to downloading the freebies. I was surprised you could use multiple accounts to get all the freebies instead of just being download them with your master account. Which was good since for some reason I was only able to get 1 game on my main account. I took and downloaded only one and logged off, and when I came back the option to download a second game wasn't there anymore. This should be a problem for the PAL accounts since it was organized quite stupidly in the store unlike US PSN store.

I take it the Japanese PSN Store is still down? When I tried accessing it I got a message saying the service isn't available in my country/region, I take it that means it's just down instead of IP block?

Is there anything worthwile on PSN+ right now?

Japanese store's down for everyone. I'm receiving the same message.

PSN+ stuff isn't permanent so I don't see the point. It's just another way of Sony getting you tied into continuous payments.

Well, you keep everything you pay for on PSN, no matter the discount. Still a pretty silly rule that all those games marked down to $0 are basically free monthly rentals though.

I don't know if this has been asked yet, but is there any info on when we will be able to create new PSN accounts?

I'm not sure, I created one when PSN came back for the US (but not Japan). It could have gone down since.

Started playing Wipeout. This isn't really my kind of game, but that's exactly why I got it (free opportunities should not be overlooked!) I like the campaign mode and honestly the whole thing is really slick even though I'm terrible at racing games. I don't know how far I will get, but I'm enjoying unlocking my grids. There seems to be a LOT of game here, which is especially nice when it's free.

Thanks for that CMoon. Will be useful when I start playing Wipeout.

I've been playing Super Stardust HD myself and I'm surprised at how good the game is. Wasn't impressed when I played the demo a long time ago but I'm really digging it now. Managed to reach loop 2 with a score of 70 millions, still behind Kaiser and MadScientist's scores.

Since this is now the unofficial Wipeout HD thread, just wanted to mention (at least for me as a non-racer) that this game is hard. I'm really enjoying the degree of precision required to play well. But fortunately it gives you lots of room to practice the tracks. After a bunch of hitting-my-head-against-the-wall, finally got to the point I could beat the very first race with a gold. I'm sure everyone else is a pro at this, but only with a LOT of work can I manage not to hit the walls and get my barrel rolls to happen at the right time without sending my ship off the edge of the road.

Like any challenging game though, there is a real sense of accomplishment when you actually leave all your competitors in the dust.

Any thoughts on the other PS3 racers?

pffff, Wipeout HD takes F-Zero GX round the back of the school shed and curls one off into it's mouth.

I love F-Zero GX, but Wipeout HD (and the series in general) is a completely different beast. It has, and always will be, about how you handle the ships. It's far less brutal than the early games where the slightest tap on the side of a track meant you weren't finishing first, but the mastering of air brake turning and shift moving is the greatest part of any racer -ever-. The ship physics are perfect, damn it!!!! And when you final can nail that 2097 track that has the sequence of sharp 90 degree turns with the airbrake slide... it's got all the thrill of negotiating through the nastiest of bullet curtains

;)

Certainly does, and it's the aztec track called Valparaiso.

I managed a triple perfect lap on that course in a time trial competition, and after one-upping each other consecutively, managed to shave so many mili-seconds off the time my opponent gave up. That was a proud gaming moment. :o

2097 ftw.

that's the one - a bit early in the morning for me! :)

Also - Wipeout Fusion didn't happen in my universe.

one thing too : with Wipeout 2048 it opens up one particularly fun thing. I loved the F-Zero GX tracks that were cut through the forest. Wipeout 2048 being near the start of the game world history means we could feasibly get back to some of the more "natural" tracks in the earlier wipeout series (as well as those tracks that are seemingly based in actual cities).
