Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
Another "stealth" addition that isn't mentioned in whatsnew.txt: Deathsmiles, Ibara Kuro and Ibara Kuro Black Label. Not working, of course.
Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
Bahahhaha thread title killed me. curses!
I was thinking I get to play Ibara, Ibara on friggin MAME, Ibara without crappy PS2-ification. Them rose bitches.

Taken from the Too Close For Comfort thread:
Also, you left out ESPGaluda II. Also not working, but I remember Luca or someone working on a preliminary driver for it and Deathsmiles, and then saying nothing's going to happen with it till at least 2015.
So I guess unless ISeeThings (Haze?) pipes in with a bit of extra info I can safely assume nothing's going to happen anytime soon.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, looks like nothing's really happening besides a bit of behind-the-scenes documentation.IseeThings wrote: MAME does not emulate the Cave SH3 board.
There is a skeleton driver to document the sets which are dumped, nothing more. The emulation is 0% complete in the current public MAME source trees, and may remain that way for a long time.

Damn it, I have an itching feeling, I feel like something is close, and it feels extremely uncomfortable.

Too close to too close for comfort for comfort, perhaps?

Luca's driver is Luca's driver. It has nothing to do with the skeleton driver included, which simply documents what is dumped (although it could do with the revision information adding)BPzeBanshee wrote:Taken from the Too Close For Comfort thread:Sorry to disappoint you guys, looks like nothing's really happening besides a bit of behind-the-scenes documentation.IseeThings wrote: MAME does not emulate the Cave SH3 board.

As others have stated, documenting them properly is tricky tho, because the games permanently store High Scores and Unlock codes in the main Flash ROM, I'm not sure if there is a way to get them to 100% factory settings either.
If and when Luca decides to submit his driver is entirely down to him. Said MAME driver is far from a playable speed anyway, and that's without the sound emulation. You're not going to be 'playing' these in MAME anytime soon even if the driver were to be submitted.
Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
I don't know how far the emulation is along but people were saying that we weren't going to be playing DOJ and Ketsui on MAME anytime soon and then, suddenly....
Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
You know, apart from the whole Demul thing. And the Demul developers frequenting the MAME forums. I'd say it's closer than you think, regardless of it being in MAME or Demul first.IseeThings wrote:Luca's driver is Luca's driver. This is what I meant. Also I found the page where you and Luca posted their infos back in January and the actual year date was more closer to 2020 than what I remembered, so I suppose there's a bit of optimism there on my part.IseeThings wrote:Luca's driver is Luca's driver. Also, thanks for the bit of extra info I was counting on, I had no idea that the unlock codes and high scores did anything other than what I assumed was the conventional method. Are there other unemulated titles besides the SH3-based games that use these features that'd be of interest to shmuppers or am I looking too broadly?
Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
I found Mushihimesama/tama and Futari are also in the list of 142u5.
And I've even seen the all roms on the net except for Mushimesama and tama.
I don't share "too close for cumfart" tingy and i'll be playing the day a good emulation goes public.
I'll still buy and play xbox/pcb versions and I'm curious what caves next move will be about this.
I can't imagine they will use the sh3 board in any next game anymore.

Maybe they need our money to dump the games, pretending it won't be released for many years, and openly release them to the public a few months later.
Anyway I won't give my dollars this time like I did for Ketsui.

I agree with you on this one Jockel, some kind of blog about what's going on with this internal secrecy stuff or even just frequent rambling updates like what I do for my projects would be nice. This is why I tend to ask so many questions when threads like this pop up, I like having a clear idea of what's going on and learning new things along the way.Jockel wrote:I wish there was some kind of blog on the progress and the current state of affairs.

There's nothing to know - Follow Demul if you're interested, because none of the other MAME developers has acknowledged to be trying to replicate Luca's work.BPzeBanshee wrote:I agree with you on this one Jockel, some kind of blog about what's going on with this internal secrecy stuff or even just frequent rambling updates like what I do for my projects would be nice. MAME is just seeking to document the games.
Demul on the other hand apparently has reasonable emulation for the sound now even, although it's still unreleased and will cause a shitstorm when it is.

Acknowledged being the key word. There's a big difference between what goes on behind the scenes, and what we see with the periodic release and update diffs. It's not like most open source projects where you can read the developer mailing lists and track commits that are made to the project's VCS. For all we know there could be a few developers hacking away on it on their own private branch, but we probably won't see the results of that until a) the guy who coordinates the releases (Kale?) decides it is acceptable for release (seeing as Cave has games still on the market and such), and b) the driver has progressed to the point where people who will test and file good bug reports would be helpful.PsikyoFan wrote:There's nothing to know - Follow Demul if you're interested, because none of the other MAME developers has acknowledged to be trying to replicate Luca's work.BPzeBanshee wrote:I agree with you on this one Jockel, some kind of blog about what's going on with this internal secrecy stuff or even just frequent rambling updates like what I do for my projects would be nice. If you don't have the technical know-how to contribute to MAME's development, they probably don't think you have a good reason to know what's going on behind closed doors. After all, there are some parties that aren't going to be happy about their hardware/games being emulated and having that stuff in the public forum is going to be seen by more than just people that are interested in MAME from a developer/end-user perspective.

The public ones perfectly match and mirror the private one, there's barely even a minute's lag between commits being made, and the update being mirrored. Sure, you can't access the development lists (a situation which I've expressed my opinion over in the past, and feel needs changing) but as far as the source repository goes there are now public mirrors of the latest code. (ignore the outdated tags, that's just Kale being lazy, the code is 100% current)
What people do on their own PCs however is another matter, but given how short of developers the project is anyway I highly doubt anybody else has taken their time to write an entirely working driver merely to duplicate Luca's work. It's hard enough getting things that actually need doing done.
Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
Well, surely you understand that things that need doing and things that are fun and/or desired to be done are different enough things. :v

And I'm sure that anybody who would consider emulating the Cave games to be fun, would find emulating anything else to be equally fun.moozooh wrote:Well, surely you understand that things that need doing and things that are fun and/or desired to be done are different enough things. :v
Luca is basically one of the only guys the project has left who is even remotely interested in emulating anything. The remaining active devs I don't actually think would even be capable of it because they don't really emulate anything from scratch or only ever had a very narrow scope of things they worked on, and the rest have retired long ago.
If you think there is some secret conspiracy of hidden drivers I'm afraid you're wrong. It would actually be nice to be able to say otherwise, but the whole operation is merely a shadow of what it used to be and the actual emulation guys are long gone, even the Cave PGM stuff was mostly done by non mamedevs (entirely if you no longer actually count me as a dev)
Demul and other new emulators are where it's at recently.

Re: Ibara and Deathsmiles in MAME 0.142u5
Nah, personally I don't support conspiracy theories or, indeed, even care about them. I'm loosely following Demul's recent progress mainly because of the potential opportunity to play Mushihimesama and Ibara without having to deal with cruddy ports. The rest of SH3 games I either already have on the X360 or don't care enough about (yet).IseeThings wrote:If you think there is some secret conspiracy of hidden drivers I'm afraid you're wrong. Why do you think the remaining developers have no interest in that? "Documenting"/emulating the hardware is the stated goal for the project, and the lack of interest seems strange if you're working on it.IseeThings wrote:Luca is basically one of the only guys the project has left who is even remotely interested in emulating anything.

Didn't mean to cause any arguments here, either. Don't be hatin' bro. People's private PCs are exactly that in that regard and should stay private. It's just I get a very different impression of things when you say there's no secrecy at all meanwhile stuff like this is ninja'ing into the builds without showing it in the changelog, and then there's outsider people like austere pulling info out of apparently nowhere. My ignorance of these matters are probably my own faul but it's stuff like that which makes me inclined to ask questions partly because of the impression that there's some "secret" stuff going on even if there isn't.

Well, I just like arcade games beeing emulated by MAME for various reasons, one of them beeing that I find it convenient having them all playable with the same emulator. I'll probably not even play those games emulated before they're in MAME. Call it laziness if you will. :c
