To soon for me to make a definitive one. So many years down the line I don't think I'm even half way through the PS2 games worth playing. There's plenty of stuff I liked a lot, but haven't played enough yet to judge whether it's top 20 material or not (Twisted Metal: Black, God Hand). Some games I played exstensively, but still have mixed feelings about them (Viewtiful Joe). Last but not least, I've yet to play the likes of Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Kuri Kuri Mix (a.k.a. The Adventures of Cookie & Cream) in co-op, which I believe is necessary to appreciate them fully.
At this point I honour the following (without games perfectly playable on PC, like Raiden III, Silent Hill 2, I-Ninja etc.):

Ico
Blood Will Tell
Ōkami
Shin MegaTen: Digital Devil Saga 1&2 (can be considered one game in two volumes)
Shin MegaTen: Nocturne (a.k.a. Lucifer's Call)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (and Door to Phantomile, since being a part of the NamCollection anthology makes it technically a PS2 game as well)
Sky Odyssey
Jak & Daxter
Jak II
Jak 3
Jak X
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
Gradius V
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Shinobi
Gitaroo Man
Suikoden III
Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter
Crimson Tears
The Red Star

Dark Knight Returns would be in slots 1-10.

SNIP
Not bad from what I know... haven't played a lot of 'em though. Looking at my shelf I'm now realizing what's left of my PS2 collection is mainly arcade ports.

Naughty Dog games were my guilty pleasure, but leaving any of them out in the cold would be dishonest of me.
I'm pretty sure God Hand will eventually be up there. It just waits for that heavy nerdage session it clearly deserves. Left it out for now, just to be on the safe side.

What an original comeback...

Anyhoo, In all seriousness, in no specific order...

Blade Runner
Raising Arizona
Princess Bride
No Country for Old Men
Empire Strikes Back
Trainspotting
12 Monkeys
Breakfast Club
Apocalypse Now
Akira

Didn't put too much time into it but I think I've seen all of those 10+ times except maybe No Country as it's "relatively" new. Would like to throw the LoTR's in there as I thoroughly enjoyed them but I feel it's cheating as it's basically a TV mini series w/ a movie budget cut up into three and shown in the theaters. And they are all basically one movie.

There's loads of others that are probably better feats of cinema, but aren't necessarily great to rewatch. I watched The Road recently which was about as good as the book (but not quite as grim in a few parts). Excellent -- totally worth the purchase (missed it at the theater) but not something I'm going to watch over and over.

Not a bad list, I'm a fan of all of those films and an enormous fan of a handful of them. Obviously Breakfast Club is a nostalgic vote, but I can identify with that.

On that note, you're now charged with telling me why half my list of faves was no good?

I'd be hard pushed to come up with a better list than that too... Although Blade Runner bores me ;)

Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter
it's always nice to see this brutal RPG get the props it deserves. *thumbs up*

I've still yet to start the MegaTen stuff - i've got everything sitting there. I've been through Persona 3 and loved it and i'm about 20 hours into Persona 4 that i also love.

I'm expecting God Hand to make a lot of peoples lists in the future.

Breakfast Club I still find fucking hilarious to this day. I've seen it a gazillion times. It's not timeless in the least, but I still love it. My son would probably not find it amusing at all when he's 16, and I imagine the same holds true for someone that age who was brought up in American culture NOT in the 80's.
On that note, you're now charged with telling me why half my list of faves was no good?
Haha -- it wasn't bad. Predator being questionable sticks out. I just don't think I could list a film w/ Arnie in it, even though that was pretty enjoyable.

Back on topic: To make this list I took a peak in my DVD/games drawer which I don't get into that often, and noticed I still do have Ico (and shoud have Wander somewhere). Out of pure curiosity, for those that love these games, have you replayed them? I think I've only played through either of them once only.

Both games are mostly a blur but I'm looking forward to playing through the remakes. I haven't bothered playing the games again since I'm lazy and don't want to set up a non-HD display.

Ico - i didn't replay - i though it was great but i felt it was a tad overrated. The combat sucks an enormous amount of balls and i felt SotC was a lot better (but seemed to attract more hate)

SotC - replayed twice after finishing. I love it - the music is absolutely epic and whilst some collossi are better than others, the game really does have a 'other world' feel about it.

I'm looking forward to playing the remakes - will be keeping the originals as they're important in the context of the PS2 (god, that's probably one of the wankiest things i've ever said :/)

Also has Jesse Ventura in it... :/
Oh, and someone kick me in the cock for totally forgetting the most obvious best movie of all time:

Big Trouble in Little China

If we were rating movies on one-liners alone, this one destroys Predator.

<On Topic>
Despite the fact that I'm not really into rebuying games, I will probably play these through again in HD as I meant to do the originals and just never did. I enjoyed both games, even though I was admittedly late to the party.

You know, I remember really enjoying the PS2 at the time but looking back I can't even think of that many games that left a lasting impression.

Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
Gradius V
Grand Theft Auto III
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Katamari Damacy
Burmout 3

Okami I got fed up with in a hurry, and I didn't persist with God Hand for some reason.
I should probably go back and give those two another try.
EDIT: I guess I kind of enjoyed SMT Nocturne, but I stopped playing after ten hours, like I do with all RPGs. Gregory Horror Show was cool too - for two hours, then I never went back.

I sure did buy a lot of games though :(

The Hate list:

Silent Hill 2
Klonoa 2
Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2
Final Fantasy X
God of War
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

It has some good collections -- the Sega Ages 2500 series (the 2nd half) for starters. The not nearly as good, but probably enjoyable to most Capcom & Taito compilations. There's also the Gust RPGs which, if you like them, are great. If you don't -- you probably won't care. The thing is, the machine had everything from mainstream to obscure, which is probably why it succeeded. I think the days of obscure on home systems are gone...unless you count download only games.

I'm somewhere in the middle of my second SotC playthrough. As expected, it's less frustrating second time around, but somewhat less rewarding too as the puzzle espect is gone. I know there's the time attack thing, but I don't feel like putting up with slow, uneventful exploration in such a mode.
In this respect Sky Odyssey is like SotC done well, as in the former arcade challenge (room for bettering your performance and score seems limitless) and spirit of adventure are in perfect harmony with each other. Ootani's soundtrack is also put to a better use in Sky Odyssey (I found SotC OST more impactful as the album rather than music in the game where it loops mechanically with tiresome predictability during bossfights).
Ico I revisit when I'm in a very special mood.

I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like movies to be too clean, especially older ones (I like the old film grain.) Blu-Ray is beautiful, but sometimes it ruins special effects (especially CG cos it makes it look super fake.)

the problem with a lot of CG is it looks shit, period.

I suspect that poorly used CG will be one of the big "look back and lol" things in 20-30 years time.

Well, a bad effect is a bad effect. Look at how many poor stop-frame animations and pre-CG era tricks haven't aged for jack.

You mean they aren't already? I actually think 'bad' CG has aged very, VERY quickly compared to a lot of older special effects.

Terminator 2 ages relatively well.
and Terminator 1 is a really weird mixed bag - some effects look great, but some look bad. The scene where the terminator is coming down the corridor fully deskinned is almost comical.

This all said, bad CG was part of the greatest moment in movie history of all time :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I16_8l0yS-g

i nearly choked to death laughing when i saw this. The problem was this was WAY too early in the film and the rest was NEVER going to live up to this AAA+ moment.

Thanks for posting this! Would be a first day purchase, but Dark Souls is out only a few days later. It is really too bad they couldn't have gotten this game out earlier as the whole Dark Souls/Skyrim killer combo is probably going to keep my console occupied until somewhere into 2012.
