RefRain Prism Memories

Post by mjclark »

So in the Refrain Prism Memories demo what's that "concept reactor"?
I see there's a main shot, a secondary lockon/laser and a pulse/charge weapon which levels up but beyond that I'm baffled...
...maybe someone who's grasped the mechanics of this excellent demo can explain a bit further :)
UPDATE: Used Babelfish to translate the game guide and discovered that when the concept reactor guage is full then it can be activated to make enemy bullets destructible.
So is anyone else enjoying this demo as much as me :?:

There is no official demo out... yet, only the preview Comiket versions that were sold there (C72, C73 and C74 if I'm not wrong). Another one is coming for C75 and maybe a polished demo will be put for download.

http://www.rebrank.org/products/r2/

That is the official site for the game inside RebRank's realm.

Concept Reactor I believe is your ship's shield...you can sustain one hit before dying if it's full IIRC

Is the full version coming out for C79, or is it just another updated demo?

Just another trial it seems... When they stop tagging it with the current Comiket, that's the sign it's going to be the full release.

However, I'm glad they held the game back because, until C78, it looked like a gigantic and buggy trainwreck. The trial I could get rocked quite a lot so I only hope the new one will be more polish and fluff and that they finish the damn thing already.

Is there gonna be ANYTHING besides Crimzon Clover (maybe) worth getting excited about for C79?

Not really. Maybe that Hayabusa game, an Ikaruga clone with the japanese satellite and Miku singing for some random reason.

Wait.

Maybe the full version of Project RepLiser. The version I got from C78 was almost finished, it was missing a couple of options. And supports 2-player mode, even via network if I'm not wrong. It's like a very impressive display of tactical weaponry (you pick three, then you can combine them) and bosses reminiscent of Warning Forever.

But this is going to be a pretty poor Comiket. I'm assuming nobody is going to risk their "gem" when Crimzon Clover is coming out to eat everyone alive. Explains why RebRank is delaying the release (besides bugs).

Didn't AquaFactory fail to get a booth--http://stg.liarsoft.org/c/?p=C79List, http://www.aquafactory.x0.com/ ? Machine translators are being more unclear than usual...

Oh, you're correct. I didn't notice that, no booth name. My bad.

Well, now that's freaking terrible! 瞬殺サレ道? will be in Comiket but at the rate their Super Mate Mate Laser is going, it'll be a gigantic turd!

...

Nevermind then. Just Crimzon Clover as far as full versions of STGs go. Maybe Hayabusa...

Dont forget that Black Art is getting sold at C79, considering the c78 version was just missing the last stage its a safe bet this will be the final version. For anyone who doesnt know, Black Art is like Exceed and Alternative Sphere but uses a 3 colour ikaruga polarity system http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm11736464

BTW has there been any news on the sequel to rosenkreuzstilette?

But yea this comiket is pritty sparse if you like anything other then Hentia and Visual Novels as theres always shitloads of that crap. Which is strange cos isnt the winter comiket supposed to be the main event rather then the summer one?

BTW it sucks that DoujinSuki is temperalary dead. Anyone know of a simlar doujin news site?

I think Summer Comiket is the larger one.

Anyway, I'm looking at [erka:es]'s site and I don't see any mention of Comiket 79 anywhere, which doesn't bode well for Freudenstachel.

from the replay i've seen so far (and by playing the game by myself), I think the use of concept reactor is to use after you unloaded all of your charge weapon, changing bullets into destructible object, since all those charge weapon will be recharged by shooting at things like enemies,it'll recharge the gauge and let you use the attack again faster. (ie. i usually use that on dense pattern on the boss after i use LV.5 attack on it.)

seriously,I can't wait for the full version of this game now,Samidare is one of the really great shmups i've played since i get back to the genre again!

I love this game but I hope they do something in the final version so it's not so much easier to score with the third ship, the sloooooooow one. Playing with it is so frustrating it's probably a danger to my health and it's definitely a danger to any breakable objects in my vicinity.

so right when you're about to get hit you can hit C and all the bullets turn into destructible bits and if you have your charge at 6 you can unload super combo by holding shift+z and as you hold those two tap x three times, then your charge has been reset to three because you destroyed all you bits as well as recharged so you unload again, reeeeeeaaallly cool, although the bosses are a joke bc of this, but sure is awesome to do everytime, love it!

OFFICIAL TRIAL IS OUT.

Looking awesome so far, they fixed all the shit I complained about when I played the C78 Relation Ver. I got during Comiket (ultra slow Mews/Bronx Terror, dodgy framerate during the boss, awful transition between attacks, they now carry some animated backgrounds/transitions). The whole thing looks ready to me and it definitely looks more accessible than Samidare. The OST is awesome too, I want it now. Techno punchi punchi at its finest.

edit: I appreciate they kept all the Central/Divers names and put names to the mid-bosses too. Pretty Hellsinkeresque.

edit2: They also fixed the bug that caused the warning reticles to produce horrible lag. Unless they decided to keep that for easier modes as an assistance...

Dammit! "Application failed to initialize properly" Even using Applocale.

Anyone else running Windows XP able to get this demo running?

I am running it on WinXP SP3. However, seems you weren't the only one, there is a new trial version up that apparently fixes that bug. Good luck!

I like the mix of a proximity system with the M.E.F.A2 that makes point blanking actually manageable and less frustrating.

maxlords: yes, apparently this web trial is the last one prior the release. The one I got had 4 stages, three ships and the menu interfaces were already done. (I have uploaded videos of this version) I HOPE they accomplish their promise this time because it has been delayed so much...

Can someone explain the config screen?
Edit: I google translated the config.txt so got it now- but is there a seperate button to activate the Concept Reactor or does it use the same button as the M.E.F.A. weapon?
Edit: Doh! It's seperate buttons for Concept Reactor and MEFA but I'd got joy2key running in the background.
I'd been waiting so long for this I'd forgotten it existed, and after being spoiled with Dotonpachi DMO and Jamestown a classic solid shooter like this seems a bit dull but I'm sure I can get back into it's wholesomeness given enough time :D

No Dice. Running Win XP SP3 and trial 0.91.01 p1 won't start. :(

Between this and Jamestown being Steam-exclusive, I wonder if the Gods are telling me that my Shmup collection is complete?

Mischief Maker> Don't lose hope that fast. See if you can report the problem (with an error log or something, I think the game generates a txt file called "lock" or something) on the official BBS. Some of the RebRank people can speak english but try to keep it as simple as possible.

mjclark: try it on Hard or Extreme. The onsalught of crap on screen at high speed will keep you at the edge :P But I guess it's by Central 04/05 that things really go to hell. And it definitely is more fast paced and engaging than, say, the new Touhou 13 demo, which I found faster than the previous but still dull as hell...

edit: granted, after experiencing 2-player sessions in Jamestown, I can say there is a whole unexploited side of the genre that needs to be explored. That's why I'm also looking forward for Project RepLiser as it supports 2 players on the same comp or via network IIRC. But the game is a bit better tailored for a single player compared to Jamestown.

If there's a file called lock, or somename.lock and the game won't start (assuming the updated trial isn't crashing), try deleting it.

Lock files are a common method of making sure that the user doesn't start more than one instance of a program. But if the program crashes and doesn't remove the file, that may throw a wrench in things.
