What was the original Ikaruga button layout in the arcades?

Post by mouser »

Topic

I'm planning to customize a joystick solely devoted to Ikaruga, and want to keep the buttons as close as possible to the original arcade. I'm not too knowledgeable about Japanese arcades, so....

I did find this picture:

Just wanted confirm that buttons are:

1st button (A) = Shoot
2nd button (B) = Polarity Switch

I'm guessing in the arcades, the homing missiles had to be activated by pushing both buttons at the same time, instead of a third button?

Actually, if anyone could link a picture of the original Ikaruga cab, that would be cool. Or were all Japanese arcade games in those generic cabs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ja ... e_cabinets)?

This is a pretty cool picture of Ikaruga and Radiant; not sure if it is what you are looking for. http://www.super-play.co.uk/forum/index ... pic=1448.0

Yes, the missiles are activated by pressing A+B. Not sure if this can be changed n the test menu though.

The game doesn't have a dedicated machine as it was sold in kit form (GD ROM, IC and manual/artwork) The marquee below and the DVD cover are custom efforts.

Missile are triggered by pressing shot and switch at the same time ? Really ?

So you have to stop shooting when you want to switch polarity without firing them ?

I'm pretty sure that holding one and pressing the other won't trigger it. You have to hit them simultaneously.
If watching the trailer of the game
makes you feel a certain way
I would be very happy if
you would give the game a try

IIRC, simultaneous input is the way to do the homing attack, but holding B and pushing A also works (hellooooo, mini-boss before the final encounter.)

Thanks everyone, this is just what I needed to know.

After seeing that thread on superplay, it's tempting to now have a single-shot autofire :P

Nah.....

This makes sense.

HEY always has Ikaruga and Radiant SG next to each other, it's nothing really special.

Here's a picture of BOTH stone-likes at the same time:

actually an autofire hack would be very likely to trip the laser if you try to switch while shooting.

if you hold shoot (A), and press B, you get a polarity switch, and not a laser. This is very much the Right Thing.
