I think TGM for 360 didn't particularly sell very well - at least not enough to justify retail releases of the newer versions. I would be happy though to see a XBLA release of TGM 3 or 4 some day.

I bought TGM Ace a few months ago and while its fun, it still leaves a bit of a sting knowing that you'll never get to play the REAL versions of this awesome game. I mean, there are the emulations and there is NullpoMino, so I guess its something. :(

Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura by Arika is supposed to be pretty much Tetris Grand Master for the PSX.

 thats the first time ive seen TGM and that vid just blew me away. I noticed that theres alot of buttons rather then a stick, ild guess that playing the game with a pad / stick at the speed would be nigh on impossible.

It really allows you do do things that looks impossible from an exterior eye,due to specific game mechanics :D

Obv this player is fantastic too.

I remember hearing that it's pretty much impossible to release the old TGM games because of rules set down by the Tetris Company which pretty much force all Tetris licensees to make their game behave like Tetris DS.

What was so special about Tetris DS in the first place?

This mostly awful rotation system and inf reset means you never have to worry about your piece locking on you, even when in 20g.

So what's so special about TGM then? :P

I love Tetris, it's a great game, and TGM easily looks like the "definitive" version of the classic game, without any goofy gimmicks to keep the game "fresh" (Tetrinet was the only one that got away with that I think), but having played Tetris most of my life, I still don't see why you'd be THAT excited about this particular version?

It's not that I don't trust you guys that TGM is special, I just want to know why. Like, what does the arcade version have, that the one that WAS released on X360 doesn't?

If you don't mind using MAME, you could boot up The Grand Master 2 Plus and let the game speak for itself.

I'm amazed this topic came up just a few hours before we happened to play Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura at a shmupmeet. It's always good times.

Interesting to read about Arika's original Tetris proposal in the history link above - Tetris w/ CCS is pretty close to the game they describe. The absurdity of what can happen in versus matches rivals (and maybe edges out) that of the old TetriNET. I sort of wish there was an option to turn the gems off completely though - it'd be a rock-solid vanilla Tetris without stupid Tetris Company meddling.

The rotation in the latest EA Tetris games and a few of the Tetris Friends games isn't infinite. Rules are still a bit more casual friendly, but AFAIK, the infinite rotation rule has been dropped.

My mom has Tetris Party Deluxe for DS. The regular modes have a timed lock and there's a master mode where the pieces lock fast.

I think Arika originally wanted to port TGM3 but got closed out by the changing Tetris Guideline (TGM3 is 2002 Guideline, and unfortunately the Guideline changed for 2005). There should've been a grandfather clause made for arcade ports to keep old rule sets preserved. IMO, TGM Ace should have been included as a "Standard" mode (meaning current guideline compliant or IMO "Nerfed") in a port of the real TGM3, alongside an "Arcade" mode.

I'll use MAME for TGM2 and Heboris UE to simulate TGM3 for now.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

tgm3 has been leaked for pc. I just tried it and it´s this easy.
1 unpack the zip
2 Run the config to set the buttons (Or Joystick if you have one).
3 Then click on TGM3.exe =P
Which in all should take about 30 seconds and you´re playing IT.
wow, what a day!

I tried it, but it runs way too fast. Is there a possibilty to slow the game somehow down? I couldn't find anything in the config.

The game runs fine on my end, Try easy mode, perhaps you just tried one of the faster game modes, :o
I have trouble registering a joypad which works fine in mame without any configuring whatsoever.

lol, I it was the easy mode I played and I had no problems using my gamepad.

No, I'm pretty sure it's too fast, because even the intro with the music is finished after 2 seconds or so. I tried to search in the tetrisconcept forum, but I couldn't find any thread about it. But those guys even have a problem with tetris clones... So, I'm guessing they won't help.

If you haven't already, try forcing vsync on in your GPU driver config. This is just a guess based on general principles, but I can't think of what else is likely to cause that.

There was that one homebrew for the DS but some guy decided to sell them for profit so the developer got a Cease and Desist...

Developer's site: Link
And it should be easy enough to find online.

most likely using an intel gpu, which doesn't have the oddball opengl the game uses. nvidia has slightly better support but lack the line clear animation and something about the fireworks in easy mode is off. Think there is a patch being made to fix this but who knows.

from what i understand this was when TGM4 was canceled because of "Clones ruining everything". Tetrisconcept decided to try a "No clone" period to see if it'll cause the game to be release but nothing happened so it was stopped.
I don't get it. *sigh*

I guess I´m really lucky that it runs full speed on my weird older laptop.
The thing is being type-X I expected it to run slow, but the game is simple enough to be run on slower computers as well, I mean it´s just Tetris.

It's a really good port, too. It's worth getting a flash cart just for that if you're a TGM fan and already have a DS.
