If the collector's edition included the first game or something I'd consider it.
Otherwise....dunno.

Game is feeble. You'd have more fun spending 50 bucks on porn and a box of kleenex.

The arcade mode in the original was pretty fun. I found Gorgeous mode really boring though. It sounds like Excellent plays more like the latter... :?

It's a real shame if so. Everything else about the sequel looks/sounds much better than the first. Hopefully Konami would be willing to do a 3rd game in the series at some point, and re-implement/improve upon everything that made the original fun to play.

I just had a quick go at this and well... it was what I expected.
Buuuuut that excessive slowdown in the lower section of the caves in the 3rd stage... What was that? Was that really needed?
It totally broke the pace of an already not very well paced game.

That slowdown disappears on higher loops. I have NO idea why its there.

You can also get rid of it on early loops by destroying all the walls.

The slowdown exists as a parody of older games, it's intentional.

Another hurdle cleared: the ESRB has rated it.

So, has anyone yet figured out why there are some listings for this game at $29.99, some at $49.99 and some at $54.99? Most of the ones you see anywhere just say "Otomedius Excellent" but GameStop's pre-order bullshit list says "Otomedius Excellent CE" for collector's edition, yet no one knows if this actually exists, and even if it does, what comes in the package. For a game that comes out in about 7 weeks, there sure isn't much information on it. And we still don't know if its going to let you change voices to Japanese, since this would be siezure-inducing if it only had dubs.

Very good point there. Well, you'd still have to buy the tissues, right?

Get a girlfriend (or boyfriend if you're into that), save money on tissues.

We ARE talking about Otomedius, you probably could have skipped the boyfriend bit.

'Bout time they finally got around to telling us something (well, technically Konami still hasn't said jack-diddly :P)! Hopefully this means there are no more delays in store...

Its a reverse importing scheme.

The Japanese LE had Sheets. One or two depending on version. You now have to buy the US LE as well to get the pillowcase. A+ Konami. Its so genius.

Just got the first game. Absolutely loving it.

I've never been a Gradius fan but totally am enjoying this.

Honestly, the soundtrack isn't so great. Besides Dark Cherry, I don't remember any of them.

Ironically this bit is added to the "Product Description" for the Collector's Edition on Amazon:
Amazon Product Description wrote:The North American release of Otomedius Excellent brings over all the thrills of the Japanese release - including the original Japanese voices - to gamers stateside.
Not sure if that's an indication of dual language options, but there ya go! ^_-

So your looking for the "Controller Setting" option. According to the manual, it's underneath "Difficulty" and looks like:
"コントローラーセッティング". You can change the "Shoot" and Missile" buttons. Need more help, I'll fire up my copy to make sure. I'm also game for multiplayer over the weekend, particularly Monday since I'm off (Yep, I work both Saturday and Sunday @_@)

I haven't had a connection on my xbox since april so I can't play online yet. Add me though XBLA = APPLE 01 DOJ

Yea I found the option, just not sure what does what. There seems to be 2 different sections too.

Anyway I have a TE

and it goes like

XYLBRB
ABLTRT

I want it so X = Shot, Y = Rapid Shot (seems to be on RT for some reason now) LB = Burst
A = Power Up

If you were looking to match the Hyper Stick Pro's layout, you would do:

A = Rapid Shot
X = Power Up
Y = Shot
LB = D-Burst.

Just putting that out there.

I wasn't. I was trying to match the layout I use for CAVE games. lol

Typically I do:

Rapid/Laser/Bomb
Other Function

except in DFK BL. I have hyper on the bomb button and bomb mapped to Other Function.

Can't say when it happened, but Amazon's listing has split into Standard/Collector editions, at $29.99/$49.99 respectively - my preorder seems to have automatically been assigned to the Standard edition. I think I'll wait until we actually find out what the collector edition is before I think about switching my preorder...

I'm getting it either way, I just want to hear the words leave someone's mouth at E3 first.
