Legendary Wings on capcom classics collection!

Post by JBC »

Legendary Wings rocks!!! Unfortunatly i was so young when i played it that i couldn't pass the second stage no matter how many quarters i pluncked into that death machine. Anyway - i would say more about this but i'm at work right now and really shouldn't be using the office pc to look at shmups stuff.

Legendary Wings! Awesome!

By the way - it's the arcade version that is included on Capcom Classics collection.

Yeah, Legendary wings is awesome. You should really try out the arcade version, the NES version just doesn't do it justice (just like all the other Capcom Classics PCBs that were ported in the 80's)

Jeez more people should've replied to this thread...

I'm also having trouble finding a website devoted to this awesome game. That's strange considering i was under the impression it was pretty popular in it's day.

Hmmm?

I believe 27th of September for x-box and ps2. It will only retail for about 20 bones, too. Next month, so soon!

Does anyone know anything about the story to this game? All that i can figure out is that the girl's name is Michelle Heart and the guy is Kevin Walker (?) and that it takes place maybe 20,000 years in the future (cool!). Also - there's some computer called Dark that has gone haywire and unleased cybernetic monsters on mankind. Apparently because of this, Ares, the god of war decides to let loose two of his warriors to defend the human race from extinction - or he gives two people wings and big guns and says "have at it".

It would actually be so cool (though admittedly still unoriginal) if they went into further detail. I like the idea of it taking place so far in the future. Maybe Ares showed back up at some point and said "Ok, i'm tired of sitting by the wayside - i'm a Greek god and we do exist and now i have to help you humans fix that which you have screwed up with your mutants and cyborgs and computers. Here, have some badass angels with guns."

I edited the post to my new info. I just got this date from about 15 'major' sites like gamespot and ign and such.

Notice i put major in parenthesis - that's because i f**kin' HATE those sites! Blargh!

Aww, come on! They're not that bad, they do have some useful information.

At any rate, I played the crap out of NES Legendary Wings as a kid, so I was curious to try out the Arcade rev. on MAME. Other then the graphics, I was pretty dissapointed. IMO, the control in the NES version is MUCH better.

But then I'm really not excited about this collection at all. The few extra games that didn't appear in any of the Capcom Genernation series for the Saturn or PS1 I'd rather get on other platforms. Legendary Wings is one example, another would be Forgotton Worlds. I will be getting a Duo this month, and would much rather pick up that port of the game which has a "dial" controller that's more similar to the controls on the orig. arcade cab.

I just hate how they shove these ads in my face and how i have to make sure to exclude the words -ign and -gamespot from every google search i do when looking up game information because all i get back are 1500 matches for the BEST place for Legendary Wings cheats, the BEST place for Legendary Wings screenshots, the BEST place for Legendary Wings guides, the BEST place for (and then i click on the link)... NOTHING! Jack shit! Nadda. Not a damn thing about Legendary Wings. Instead i get this gray screen that claims that they'll have Legendary Wings info soon. Bullshit! You bastards just want more hits for your site and you trick us into it by using false advertising! Fuck YOU IGN FUCK YOU!!!! Stupid!

 Uhh... sorry about all that.

OK, now I see where you're coming from-IGN's "The Best Place For___" crap with older games does get annoying. Also how they'll let you watch their newest videos, if you're not a subscriber, but not some old 1997 video footage of a game-that just makes no sense-why let non-subscribers see the newest videogame footage, instead of older stuff??

I just really like their reviews (IMO they are not as tough on oldschool games, or games in general, as Gamespot is), and their release date schedules, although those can always be subject to change.

I really love that game too. Used to play it a lot in the arcade; I managed to find the PCB (Jap version) a couple of months ago and the gameplay is still as great as I remember it from back in the days. The arcade I used to play at had the american release (where they replaced both female (Jap) characters with male (US) . Why did they have to do that anyway ?. no nudity whatsoever so is it american censorshiip or just a choice from capcom USA ?

There's this one guy who has a page devoted to LW who claims that it was done to make the charachters gay. It's a really funny read...

Legendary Wings isn't gay.....It's manly!?!

So what if Michelle Heart was transformed into a man in the NES port....That doesn't mean....well...

Okay, maybe it's a little "Greek", but it's still a great game.

Actually, I think Capcom turned the main character into a man in some US versions of the arcade game and the NES game because the female character looks like she's wearing panties. The same type of stupid censorship that happened with the SNES and GBA Final Fight for the US (though I still like the US GBA Final Fight despite the horrid change).

The NES version of Legendary Wings is quite different from the arcade version. Power ups are earned differently and the underground sections aren't platform jumping like in the arcade version. The main character even powers up differently. Is there a Japanese version of Legendary Wings for NES?

Meh. I am not too excited about this collection. Taito Memories 1 and 2 have impressive lineups ranging from the best of their old titles all the way from the 80s to their more "modern" classics from the 90s like GDarius. So in light of that I ask: where's my flippin' long overdue 1941 and XX Capcom? All I get is 1942? That is weak. Release a volume 2 and do the next one right.

Anyways, my fave Capcom NES shooter is 1943.

Actually, I'm wondering if the topic poster is talking about the PS2 and Xbox collections or the PC Capcom collections where you have to buy individual games.

BrianC wrote: Doh: Missed the forth and fifth response. The PS2 and Xbox collection was mentioned.
I posted this in my last post becuase I already know. It was a mistake and it can be hard to catch every post in a topic sometimes. I came back hoping for another actual post about Legendary Wings. What's the use of bumping up a topic for something that shouldn't have been posted in the first place?

Doh: Hit edit instead of quote, but I did have a comment that suggested that I already know that you were talking about the PS2 and Xbox version. I didn't delete my whole post, but you could have told easily that I know you were talking about the PS2 and Xbox ones by that comment I quoted. Anyway, you could have PMed me instead of bumping up the whole topic.

Sorry about the reply I deleted. I thought about it and decided it was harsher than I intended. Next time when one of my posts get skipped over as if it wasn't there, I'll try not to overreact.
