Right, dates are finalised for the 16/17th! Awesome.

CHALLENGE 1:

Now I need to work out exactly who's coming down (for sure). The list so far in terms of those who have piped up are:

Chi CONFIRMED WHETHER HE LIKES IT OR NOT (sleeping over)
hzt CONFIRMED (not sleeping over)
Icarus CONFIRMED (sleeping over)
Spadgy CONFIRMED (TBC)
Rupert h - CONFIRMED (sleeping over)
Dan76 - CONFIRMED (1 day, not sleeping over.)
JDE - CONFIRMED (both days, not sleeping over.)

If everyone on that list makes it, that's pretty much my flat at capacity, so that's cool. I'll consider it a list of first refusals.

What I need from you guys is the following: To confirm if you're a 'definite', if you'll be there for both days and if you'll be sleeping overnight so I can figure out the logistics.

Please get back to me asap on this!

GUIDE BOOK:

- The only house thing the missus would insist on is a shoes off at the door rule, so lets just say fresh socks in a room crammed with ten people would be appreciated by all.

- Fag smoking: Can be done on the balcony, or even better, the open patio area just next door. Hard drugs are to be done in the bathroom.

- Sleeping arrangements: Bring earplugs if you got em. Dunno why I say that, it's just I always wear em cos I'm a light sleeper and I think they're a good idea.

- Drinks: Will be provided by me, some soft, some alcoholic. One thing, beer and cabs/pcbs/electronics generally don't mix, so if possible please put drinks on the coffee table or out of the way before approaching expensive merch.

- Anal shit: My Hori VLX stick is my pride and joy. The 360 will be set up so you can all get your grubby palms on it, but the only rule when using the VLX is please take off all watches/bracelets/wristwear. I only mention it because the panel top gets destroyed by these things during vigorous stick motion and I want to keep it beautiful and purdy. And it was fucking expensive. :)

- Challenges: I'd like to have some fun prize challenges over the weekend, so if anyone can think of some cool mini score attack games, feel free to throw em out there and I'll see if I have any tat to give away. I'm seriously considering doing a bomberman playoff to see who gets the sofa too.

- Dinner: Dinner on Saturday evening will be booked - another reason I need to know who's attending for sure. You'll need to reserve the grand total of £13.99 and prepare yourself for the buffet event of your life (seriously.)

STUFF I NEED FROM YOU

- I currently have 3 sega saturn pads, but we can have Bomberman for up to 7 players. Can any of you commit to bringing a Saturn pad - we need four. (JDE bringing 2 - Rupert bringing 2 - all sorted!)

- alcoholic drinks: everything is laid on, but if you fancy bringing a pack of beers/alcopops or whatever, that would be nice.

- I have two 360's but only one power supply, if someone could bring one up that would be awesome (Rupert providing)

- Superguns: I'm thinking one additional Supergun would be fantastic if someone could bring one along so I can set up on the small TV too. (JDE providing)

- Wild final request: If anyone is driving down and can bring either a smallish CRT TV in the boot, or a computer monitor w/speakers so I can set up something via VGA that would be great - but it's not essential. Just means one more screen for folks to use.

- Sleeping materials: depending on how many are staying over, we'll need to work out whether you need to bring sleeping bags or anything. I'll be able to figure this out when I know who will be here overnight.

PCB SELECTOR!

Here's a list of PCB's available to play over the weekend. I think it's a complete list, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Anyway, it's a lot easier if people just mention PCB's they would like to play first, so I can get em ready rather than go rifling through cupboards on the day. So if there's something you want a go on, don't be shy, just mention it in the thread.

(Ignore all the region and paperwork details, I pulled the list from a different forum thread for PCB inventories:)

TRANSPORT INFO:

Train - London to Brighton: Trains depart from either London Victoria or London Bridge to Brighton direct. Fastrack trains run from Victoria every 30 minutes and usually only have 2-3 stops (East Croydon, Gatwick, Brighton). Takes 55 minutes. London Bridge trains usually take around 1 hour 20 mins and have a few more stops.
The best value ticket is an open return that permits up to 5 days (or longer now, they may have changed it.)

By car: Leave early on Saturday morning, traffic to Brighton on a Saturday gets painful around mid-day and then most of the afternoon. Takes around 1hr 15 usually. There is a car park directly opposite the flat (no parking on the grounds) that is approx £12 for 24 hours.

By foot: Takes around 6 days.

By R-9 Space Fighter: 0.01 light seconds.

Any time in July is good for me really, although I'd prefer it near the beginning of the month. I won't need to spend the night either (unless I get too drunk to ride a bike).

I'm looking forward to it already!

Cool, well you being flexible makes things easier already, good stuff! I'm guessing you live very locally then (if you're riding a bike home?)

Drunkeness may occur at some point, Chi is a borderline alcoholic and refused to leave the bar last time he was here.

I'm flexible on the date - so I'll hopefully be around, plus I should have somewhere to stay. If not I might just come down for the day.

Hint to people traveling by train - book as far in advance as possible. I normally manage to get tickets £5 each way from London to Brighton.

True! So the earlier we can nail down dates the better. My place is literally about 1 minute from the station too, so if you're carrying any baggage, it won't be for very long.

This sounds awesome!

I wouldn't be able to make the last two or three weekends in July, but any of the others are good.

Cool!

So that leaves these three weekends:

2/3
9/10
16/17

Spadgy, Chi, Icarus, Raedis I'm looking at you (or anyone else I've forgotten about!)

Capacity wise I'd say I could handle five floor and sofa kippers comfortably, above that and it'll be spoons at dawn. If people value their sleep and don't fancy cuddling up to floors n' sofas but do want to stay both days (please do!) I can always check out local accommodation too. There's a rather fancy (and popular) hostel around the corner that I could always look into if anyone would like me to enquire about rates, and a couple of Holiday Inn's about ten minutes down the road (probably need to move early on these though as summer weekends are mad busy in Brighton.)

Not very, my mother lives in Worthing, but there are bike paths along the seafront almost the entire way and drunk late night rides home are awesome.

If there are too many people for your place then any one person crazy enough to bring their own bike and follow me on a high speed drunken ride to my mother's house (or crazy enough to sit on my handlebars for 12 miles) is welcome to my floor.

No probs, I'll make sure I get everyone up early enough to catch GMTV broadcasting the story of your untimely deaths.
CHI wrote:i'm willing to cook for one evening for everyone... that's if everyone is willing to chip-in the groceries
Wahey, that's an offer I'm sure we can't refuse. I'm happy to chip in for that. I won't tell Ming you're cooking when she's not here or else she'll never forgive you.
Chi, if you can get any extra time off work and fancy coming up on the Friday day/evening to help me setup/rearrange furniture etc, that would be really handy. We can prepare for your culinary delights then too.
PS: i snore by the way
They'll be fine I'm sure. You snore like a baby, a pair of earplugs should do it.

So Chi is flexible, only a few remain. It's looking these two weekends are most preferable:

2/3
9/10

Just waiting on Spadgy et al. I know Icarus said earlier is better for him as he's got hols later in the month, so it could work out nicely.

Swoon.

Anyway Skykid, I'm on holiday for the first week of July with my wife, so I hate to be a massive pain, but the late July dates are best for me.

However, I do have a mate in Brighton who doesn't mind a bit of shmupping, and would always offer me floor space, so if you were getting busy at yours I could stay at his house which is right by the station.

And to clarify, the whole issue of me organising a Casino 'Living Room Meet' at my house was just going to be a micro meet as an alternative to our weekly meets at Casino, so there no worries about it clashing here.

I have no idea.
Two days after my 30th birthday, and smack-bang in the middle of holiday month? In all likelihood, probably not, but I'll check the holidays calendar when I'm at work tomorrow. That, and I'm putting aside for my big trip in August, so I'll be strapped for disposable cash for a while, which will make traveling down an issue.

It would be a big shame not to have you here. :(

Can you let me know what dates are best for you if this is undoable? Some flexibility may open up on other people's schedules so you never know. And if money is an obstacle, I don't mind helping with travel.

And yeah - we need to have Icarus there.

16/17 is fine for me, but I'm happy to try and be as flexible as I can...

Re: Skykid's Seaside Shmup Matsuri 0'11 - Tentative Dates

The weekend dates are fine, but the main issue is cost: while you guys can travel to and from London for quite a low price, it's going to cost me nearly £90 return on the train down from Newcastle, and that's £90 that would be useful for my holidays. I haven't booked it off yet, as I need to see how things pan out here first. I'll try and sort something out, but it'll be tight, and I'm not guaranteeing anything.
Don't let that stop you from organising a good get-together, though. ^_-
