Limitless = bloody average. Scrappiest scripting in the world and gaping with plot holes.

The King's Speech = Good, definitely worth watching if not just for all the really good performances.

I sat through it to see if it could surpass the shit it had already stacked up.

Watched the Hollywood remake of "Let Me In."

Very good. Didn't stray too much from the original. Excellent story and acting.

The "remake" must be one of the most useless fucking films in history why does it even exist it's the exact same freaking move done 2 years after except it's set in the US instead of Sweden.

Also since when isnt Sweden part of the western world?

Strangers on a Train - Decent noir from Hitchcock that takes too long to get going and has a really ridiculous scene that damages the suspension of disbelief.

Mildred Pierce - Finished the HBO mini series recently and enjoyed it. It stays true to the book and the acting choices were perfect but, as expected, a lot of emotional and visual nuance was lost. I've got the original movie starring Joan Crawford on its way from Netflix. I've read it takes substantial liberties with the book but is supposed to be quite good regardless.

The main character's appearance in the Swedish version freaks the hell out of me, that's why I'll never watch it, and that's why I'd stick to the US version

Watched 'Run! Bitch Run!' last night. Similar feel to 'Last house on the left'.

If you like good old school slasher/giallo stuff, check it out. Soundtrack is awesome!

As with most giallo, lots of disturbing imagery, but its very well put together.

Heh, I watched that one a few months ago. Not for the faint of heart in several scenes most definitely. Ah, good old necrolagnia.... :?

I had been eyeing it on Netflix for a bit, finally watched it.

Even made me LOL in a few spots, but I have issues.

This whole film, from the cinematography, to the soundtrack to the story line is an homage to the old grindhouse style, and it was really well done.

I am going google diving to try and track down the OST tonight, and if I can't find it I am going to have re-watch it and rip the audio..... the soundtrack was that good!

EDIT: here it is http://www.myspace.com/runbitchrunsoundtrack free to stream off myspace. Still looking for a hard copy though.

95% of the time a "western" remake of a film is synonymous with "Hollywood/American."
I edited my original post just for you sweetheart. :?

It was remade for the same reason that most remakes ("Insomnia", "The Vanishing", "True Lies", "Vanilla Sky", "12 Monkeys") were made:
Exposure . We may have seen the original but that doesn't mean our neighbors knew a thing about it or
are going to watch "Let the Right One In" and sit through the subtitles when they can see "Let Me In" which is almost identical (as you eloquently stated)
with the exception to location, names and obviously language.
The fact Reeves didn't fuck it up is exactly what makes it a good film.

 The #1 argument by proponents against a Hollywood remake of foreign films is the director will piss all over the original.
There are exceptions (The Departed, Fistful of Dollars/Last Man Standing, Scent of a Woman) but most turn out to be complete shit.

Back on topic:

Watched "No Direction Home" (was Dylans Birthday =D ), "Ong Bak 3" and "Gallipoli."
No Direction Home and Gallipoi were both excellent. Not much to say about Ong Bak 3, fighting
scenes were good. That's about it.

Why did I just watch Rollerball???

BTW, Yojimbo > Fistfull of Dollars > Last Man Standing
Not to say remakes can't be great (some are), it really all depends on the director. I'll take Kurosawa and Leone over pretty much every human being on earth.

Last Man Standing doesn't compare to the other two (it's decent though) but it's hard for me to put Yojimbo in front of Fistfull of Dollars or vice versa. Plot may be the same
but they're so much different. They're both awesome movies.

Well, I don't think Fistful is Leone's best work. He developed his style so much more in For a few dollars more. My other thoughts are technical; that is, Yojimbo is really a flawless film from an experienced/seasoned director using some of the best cameramen in Japan (never mind a super dedicated cast) to create that 10/10 experience. Fistful is not always great; some shots (particularly the attempted night shots) don't work, and not every thing translates perfectly over to a western.

Watched "Three Kings" and it blew my mind. Instant classic, 5-star, and one of the best War Movies I've seen.

Refuse to see remake of Let the Right One in. Gut feeling is that it won't surpass the original -- I harbor a totally irrational concern that watching the remake would somehow diminish my appreciation for the original. I've heard good things about the Hollywood remake though, so maybe someday my curiosity will get the better of me and Ill watch it.l

Actually, the DVD of the "Let the Right One In" has the option of a dubbed English audio track. I have no problem with subtitles and typically preferable subtitling to audio dubbing. But here I think that with English dubbing is really the best way to watch Let the Right One In. Because its a visually stunning film and also very atmospheric, subtitles really take away from the overall affect of the film. Dubbed audio lets you focus in on the visuals and absorb the landscapes and environment. Also, the dubbing is really well done. (The voicing synchronizes surprisingly well with the original lip movements; (2) the voice acting is well-done; and (3) the sound of the English voices fit appropriately with each character.)

"Where the Sidewalk Ends" - A very good noir about a cop who accidentally kills a suspect and attempts to cover up his crime. I don't think I'll ever tire of the unfolding shit storm plot device.

Skyline - Wow. Unbelievably cliche characters and plot but I enjoyed the aliens and it was fun to predict the cliches. NOt quite as fun to watch as 2012 but a good time, regardless.

The Man From Nowhere | 5/5 from me.

Solid action, great acting, beautifully shot, etc. Weird cops as well, is this a trend in modern crime/drama?

I should dig up my Strike Commando 1 and 2 discs right now. Thanks for reminding me.

The same team that gave us Robowar also gave us the brilliant cinematic epic that is Troll 2.

Rather cheezy zombie flick in a few parts but overall I found it quite amusing as some of the dialog of just a riot. 8)
