Welcome to all the newcomers. Great to have so many introductions here.

I know a guy who works selling and distributing arcade cabs all over the world. He's in Dubai now (I'm pretty sure he's still there) on a business trip. Apparently he went there because there's a real blossoming arcade scene in Dubai, and he's hoping to sell many cabs.

I lurked here a long time and finally started posting. I do love this forum and shmups in general.

Been into gaming my whole life and have always loved the old school games (2d fighters, shmups, turnbased rpg and strategy). Huge sega fanboy, but became a diehard pc gamer once the dreamcast... ya know.

Must say a huge thank you to this forum for SHMUPMAME! Playing my fav shmups lagless has been amazing

I play almost all games for survival and 1cc. Still very newbish, just got into shmups hardcore a couple years ago and took a long break from all games. The only game i am trying to master and get a respectable score in is Ketsui atm but I have high hopes.

My favorite game is either street fighter 3 third strike, jojo's bizarre adventure, or all the capcom vs series titles! i also love poker and other card games.

If anyone plays fighting games through GGPO let me know and ill hit you up when my pc is fixed! i also game on wii (lol), and iPod touch.

I just wanted to say Hi, so Hi :D I have been a lurker on the site for sometime.
I have always been hooked on shmups since I was young, I am now 34. I am not great at them, but I love them.

I have just started playing a bunch on a DC emu I found. I have a ton on Mame and pretty much everything even remotely shmup-like on XBLA (never finished Ikaruga yet :D ) and the good ones from the indie games section, and a bunch on my android phone including a PSX emu with some shmups.

I am currently playing Strania, just bought it today after some hesitation, not bad, bit tough but I am sure I'll get through it one day. I prefer stuff like Guwange and Dodonpachi, I really want to get a hold of Espgaluda and the second one in some form or another. I loved ESP.

I've been off the forums for many years but lurk from time to time. I was a member of the original "Team Drink and Fly" with DJ Incompetent and Acid King.

Hope you all will welcome me back. :D

Just joined this fine site after coming across it looking for Darius info!

Long time Shoot Em Up fan :) and these games are what drove me into a career creating 3D graphics for games as a professional.

Own some rare machines including Darius 1 and 2 cabs ( fully working ) and lots of fine boards

Hoping to bump into other Darius fans on there

Hi All,

I am a big fan of shootemups old and new my earliest memory was playing xenon 2 for the sega genesis I'm currently enjoying cave games Guwange, Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama Futari, Espgaluda 2 as for the oldies I like R-Type, Galaga, Xevious, Gyruss, Space Invaders. A special mention should go to Ikaruga for frustrating the hell out of me I admit I have only just got back into shmups but it is now all I am playing I love improving my high scores on certain games, however I am looking for tips on how to get better hence why I joined this site. :|

Heya, I'm just a regular shump fan, who has a vague interest in some games, even watching the games from CAVE, but never played the current ones, beginning with Mushihimesama. I am a FRAXY player, who's dipping deeper into the TRY and edit files in order to make an enjoyable game in the future. I used to lurk here, and I lurked into GuwangeDash as well, being quite the fun game. However, I won't talk anymore about GuwangeDash, since it's not appropriate for this thread. Sometimes I like to make TAS'es, or superplays, mainly on obscure shumps, or just because they need to get TAS'ed in general. Again, I am a little new to TAS'ing, so don't expect anything great... yet. XP

I made a post on here before, but got to this thread soon after. I apologize for this.

Another new guy here.

I have just been introduced to this forum, truthfully I didn't know it existed till about a month ago. But man, am I glad there's a forum dedicated to one of my favourite gaming genres of all time!
Shooters or SHMUPS as it's now called, has been a favourite for a while. That and fighters, my two loves.

I've collected arcade games for a while now, I own a few woodie cabinets at home, and just picked up a NAC...my first candy cabinet. I'm planning on putting an MVS system into it, for now, till I figure out what else I want to do with it. Having owned classic cabinets, I never had a surplus of boards to throw into Jamma cabs, but now that I own a NAC I'll be on the hunt to own a stock-pile of games.

My current collection of cabinets consists of a Robotron cabaret (my pride and joy), a Donkey Kong Junior stanup, a Midway (mame'd) cocktail cabinet that was formally an Arkanoid, an Asteroids cocktail vector cabinet, and of course my New Astro City cabinet.

Some of my favourite shooters/shmups consist of:
- Flying Shark
- Gyruss
- Time Pilot
- Salamander
- Progear
- Under Defeat
- Ikaruga
- Einhänder
- Gradius (series)
...to name a few...

I'm happy to join this forum! :D

I'm not exactly new, and a few people may know me by now(mainly anyone who skims through Dodonpachi, DFK, and BWR threads), but I figured I'd go ahead and introduce myself formally for once.

I got hooked on the SHMUP genre back in 2005 when someone showed me a neogeo emulator in my webmastering class in high school, and Last Resort and Blazing Star instantly came to mind from my childhood so I got those and played them for a little bit before discovering mame. The craze pretty much started at that point, but I've never been too competitive in all but a few very select games(Blazing Star, Dodonpachi, DFK, BWR+ in a nutshell), most shmups I play randomly and with sub-par skills that carryover from playing all kinds of shmups

Despite my weird username, it is simply just a spawning from my OLD Xbox Liver gamertag many years back. I'm a Hispanic shmup player in Texas, one of the few(only?) in the U.S. to see Hibachi once in Dodonpachi and several times in Daifukkatsu at Arcade UFO in Austin, probably one of my most epic and proudest achievements. Locally I'm known as Dodonpachi Guy. BWR (+) are my favorite pc freeware shmups. Too many to name on Mame that I like, I've criminally ignored a bunch and plan on playing catch-up in the summer.

Don't really know what else to say, I'm here for obvious reasons but I'll try posting around shmups chat more often cause I had a bit of a shmup slouch slump because of college taking up my spring 2011 semester. I hope to see a few more frequent faces around with all the newcomers posting here.

Hi everyone. Newly registered here but not a noob. I've accidently wondered to this site back in the day not sure what was it about but possibly information on game i wanted or someone posting a rare game i was interested in which i could be guessing radiant silvergun. Been playing shmups for more than a decade but gaming for nearly 30 years. My first shmup I can remember playing was the arcade game called 1942 back in the early 80's at the corner of my block in a small pizza joint where they served regular large slices of pizza that equaled the amount of a half as large pizza you would get a dominos or round table joint.

I see that there are a few new characters on the select-screen, hopefully you have a full move-set, and an easy super-move. Please be sure to alternate your costumes to match the stages accordingly. Don't turtle under pressure, sometimes you really need to risk it, and go for a combo breaker. I suspect some of you may be quick enough to cancel into a switch-up. So, have a look around, put a coin up on the que, and choose your opponent wisely.

Nice to have you all aboard, try and get involved in some of the sub sections here, and let us know if we have missed anything! Practice smart, and have fun!

Hi everyone, I'm a 19-year-old retrogamer from Rome, Italy. I'm a Shoot'em ups fan/player and a proud owner of two Dreamcasts, system that took me to the "arcade way". My Shoot'em Up collection is still quite small, but I hope to expand it in the future with new titles (and new consoles, maybe). :)

See you in the forums!

Hi everybody. I'm a new guy here.

Big Cave fan since I was graced myself to MAME with obscure shooters, such as Esprade, Guwange and Dodonpachi. My relationship with Cave games was raised to a full force when I got a chance to try out playing with Cave PGM masterpieces, such as DOJ and Ketsui. I had an Xbox 360 for some Cave goodness, such as Death Smiles and Mushihime-sama Futari. I also have my own 4th-gen iPod touch for DFK and Espgaluda 2.
I also like other shmups in general such as Ikaruga, Battle Garegga, Gradius, etc.

I've been visited the forum frequently, especially to catch some Cave buzz. It was such a pleasure for me to join the club. See ya! :D

hey guys, I've lurked here a lot in the past, but just now signed up. I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember, and I've loved STGs for most of that time as well. I don't have a huge budget and so I mostly rely on playing MAME versions of games, or lately I've been really delving into the iOS shmup universe. don't really know much else to say, other than I live in indiana, which seems pretty dead as far as shmups go. the only local arcades don't have anything beyond galaga (which is still fun, but I want to try more modern ones!) so I sort of feel alone in this. I thought signing up here might help me have an outlet for my love of the genre, as well as a place to read up on the latest CAVE ports to iOS, hahaha.

Hey, I've been lurking here for quite some time now. I'll admit, I didn't really get into shmups until about three years ago. Once I experienced the glory of Cave games (I started out with ESPGaluda II), I was hooked. The "shmup zen state" that people talk about is totally real, and absolutely amazing.

Most recently, I've been enjoying a little gem (on Steam) called Jamestown by Final Form Games. http://finalformgames.com/jamestown It has a very well done [up to] four player local co-op mechanic (and will possibly have online in the future, according to the devs). I would highly recommend checking it out.

i've always had a interest in shumps games but i couldn't actually get into them until about last year. started off with mushihime-sama futari for 360. then i went to japan, and while i was there i got my hands on most of the touhou series fairly cheap, and got to play deathsmiles and Espgaluda among others in the arcades and been hooked ever since. i still suck at the games in general but i'm getting there 8)

Hi all!

I am a longtime lurker but have just recently started posting I'm from Northern California (Sacramento valley); there is no scene here, but apparently some fantastic meetups in the Bay Area. I've been playing Shmups on and off all my life, all the way back to arcades in the early 80s. Currently I'm getting more into Cave (enjoying Futari now) and trying to get better at Ikaruga.

Thanks again for hosting such a great community!

Reviving the self-introduction thread it seems ;-)

Hi All,

I am Arjan, 37 years, living in the Netherlands (great little community here!). I have been gaming all of my life, and have been a fan of R-Type, Parodius, Gradius/Nemesis and Salamander since they first appeared on the MSX ;-)

I am also on sega-naomi.com, AO and nozomi.nl under the same alias.

I'm joining the bandwagon on this, haven't gave a formal introduction myself 8)

Anyhow, hello to all fellow shmups members. I reside currently in mid Illinois where cornsfields are the grass around here, thus no decent arcade around to play some shmups. A friend of mine introduce me to Mars Matrix May of 2011 after I got my free Dreamcast from a lady who thought it doesn't work. Somehow I got interested on the game mechanics and the snowball effect happen from there.

Hello Shmups

Post by stevearcade »

Hi Guys,

I'm Stevearcade. Some of you may know me by the same name over JAMMA+, UKVAC, and/or ArcadeOtaku. For those who don't know me, I'm 27, I live in Eastbourne, I'm a Music teacher and I play a lot of video games. My main gaming love (arcade wise) is the Street Fighter series, although I am partial to some good, wholesome Shmup action, although I won't lie, I'm not always very good at them  .

Anyway, I'm off to have a nose around and familiarise myself with the place. Hopefully I can learn some stuff and also contribute too.

Peace and Game On.

:D

(Mod edit - merged post into the big introduction thread. Welcome aboard! /nZ)
