Cut-throat team competition then? Works for me!
Let's all compete drunk, too.

How about Ketsui ?

When Robert garcia is hosting, Ketsui always makes an appearance. 8) I for one would love to see you or third_strike play it.

Cool!

I am Brazil now.
Go to Europe and meet personally people like emphatic, PROMETHEUS, Smraedis, ... is a old dream.
In next days I will know if this will be really possible, the only thing can stop me is the passport the rest (Availability and money to travel) is OK.

My best score is like 50M and I've never reached further than 1-5 boss xD (played it numerous time randomly at meets)
But maybe I'll put a little practice in before the meet on MAME !

I'm Not good at Ketsui either...
Teams of 3, so 3 Games have to Be played? each Teammember has to Play One Game.
The Teams sort it out for them who plays wich Game?
But that gets hard to find out the Winner, so only Ketsui probably...

I'm a few years out of practice on Ketsui and never did get to that second loop.
A drunk Comp would be fine though.

If we can have 2 or 3 Ketsui PCBs I think a Ketsui-only competition would work well. Everyone playing the same game gets everyone together. All three members of team could play simultaneously, or maybe 3 opposing team members, with your teammates helping you in real time with comments... Maybe allow more than 1 try for each player... Would be fun ^_^

Other game that I think can also work well is Mushi Futari Black Label Maniac (not too hard, non-exponential and easy-to-pick-up scoring).

Third_Strike : it's really awesome if you make the trip from Brazil, would be an honor to meet you.

Because i wanted to be home by Saturday night again, if that's possible.
But if everyone else comes on Saturday night, i might reconsider it.

I think the Swedish plan is to arrive Saturday morning. I'm at work on Friday, so I/we can unfortunately not leave until I'm off work and have traveled to Gothenburg for takeoff.

We had a nice Ketsui competition once where only survival was needed. Put the game in two cabinets, side by side, then press start. Now at the exact same time, select ship to start the game. He who survives longest will be the winner. Ketsui doesn't have boss milking, so it's pretty fair, even though more skilled players will take their sweet time with the (first) boss(es). Of course, the bonus screen can also play a part, so scoring is rewarded. 8)

But having 3 type of games for the competition would be fun, but it sounds like it would take quite some time for the competition to finish. And people might get silly drunk.

Haven't been playing Ketsui for several years now... play for survival works for me, but I will be totally fucked in a score competitions. I can only assume that play for score in DFK BL - Power mode is out of the question?

... and just for fun, survival in Futari 1.5/BL - Ultra + DS MBL - lvl999 could be fun just for the laugh.

I think all DDPs are terrible for a friendly competition since score depends very heavily on precise memorization of every part and is exponential, one mistake = no points at all, a little better = a lot more points. People who don't have an extended experience of the game just won't have fun with scoring at all.

Yeah, Ketsui is (except for some bosses' surprise patterns) pretty much a "pick up and play" game. But now that it's emulated, most shmup fans has "had the bittersweet taste of annihilation" already. 8) The only thing you really need to practice is getting the 1up on stage 3 and 5 each run (if you make it to stage 5).

I forgot to indicate that I was ironic with that suggestion ... :-) ... and yes, it's a terrible game for a scoring competition.

This meet is getting better every day. 3.5 weeks to go... daamn! It will be one of the most legendary shmup meets of all time :!: :!: :!:

@competition
Count me in.

About the ranking, what about counting the score together? In a fair way of course, so if there's a game that maxes out on a very low score (like a Toaplan shooter), one might add a zero or two to make it a fair part of the total score if there are also games that count scores in the millions (like Ketsui). For instace, you'd count 300mio for a Tatsujin.score instead of 3.0 mio.

The games would have to be wisely chosen. DDP is a very bad choice because can't perform well if you haven't memorized the patterns. Ketsui is good to pickup and play, and some classics would be nice (no Toaplan though, unless DEL doesn't mind staying until Tuesday or Wednesday).

Ketsui is passe, I propose we do a head to head on Akai Katana LE "red mode" instead? I can bring mine and I believe runefaust has one aswell?

that would be one seriously pimped out competition I think?

If Ketsui is still preferred i can bring that PCB too if there are more needed..

Will GREV's Strania be playable at the Meet?
btw. General question: Is there no other way to get hold of Strania, other than XBLA?

I'd bring my Toaplan stuff, but it'll be all boxed up by the time of the meet. Too bad, I'd want to see DEL perform in Tatsujin so much. Does anybody else have this game on PCB?

Twin Hawk would be great, also any other early Toaplan shooter.

I'd love to bring Flying Shark, but my bootleg PCB would need an extra bag because it's huge. Out Zone would work, but I have the Romstar version, so it might be frowned upon by purists. Perhaps sven666 can bring his Nippon board.
