Correct me if I´m wrong, but isn´t the flyer in question from the arcade-version?dessgeega wrote: i'm sorry, i like to be able to play games without being constantly reminded that adolescent males (and adolescent adult males) are the ones who are supposed to be playing these games, not me.
They market their arcadegames in Japan toward the audience that frequent arcades. I don´t believe this is part of a homepackage, and if so, YOU won´t have to be reminded of anything playing the game.

And so people shouldn't do the same about the Japanese people or culture.Jon wrote:Exactly. Something being "Weirdo" depends on the point of which you are looking at it.
From a european (well ok... Dutch) standpoint I found the Nipple Gate and the SA: hot coffee mod contoversy in the us to be VERY WEIRD (not to mention hypocrit).

And in terms of censorship, the US is weird like that. A good chunk of us admit it (and don't like it). But likewise, Japan has its own quirks, and a lot of them have to do with sexuality and sexual fetishes. Do I even need to bring up how large an issue subway groping has become?
Regardless, this forum often has no trouble bitching about "dumb Americans," so I don't see the point in getting uptight over one person calling Japanese fetishes weird.

it's nothing new.. paper doll cutouts like that appear in a lot of anime art books in japan, and sadly yes, they are aimed at drooling otaku that get a kick out of it..
interestingly enough I noticed that even paedo-like images of semi naked anime schoolgirls on tele-kura (phone sex) ads in tokyo were ignored by most.. still, I found it worrying to take a glimpse of said ravished schoolgirl on poster, then saw a very similar image in real life as a schoolgirl walked past.. I thought it was a little unfair...teenage girs don't need to see that.
T&A is one thing but the entire "moe" and schoolgirl "sailorfuku" thing is a tad creepy..

Japan's culture is just totally different concerning pedo stuff. I once read that someone was aking people on the street what the age of consent in Japan was. The vast majority did not know or care, and some even said that they weren't sure there was such a law.
Also it seems magnified x10 in the Doujin circles. I was playing Ragnarok Battle Offline, which someone reccomended as a fun beat-em-up. For some reason the bosses are 3~5 year-old naked girls dressed up as animals.
wtf
I had to stop playing and uninstall, it was just too creepy.

Yeah, I've got the Mushihimesama and Ibara flyers. The Mushihimesama one is some sort of battle-figure type setup. Can't really do much with it. The Ibara one is probably the best we may ever see, as far as fun goes. It's a "finger-spinner." It has a pinwheel thing that you construct and put on your finger and, as the how-to picture shows, run around to make it spin. Yesssss.GaijinPunch wrote:undamned..... most of the last few Cave flyers come like this... with cut outs. They don't allow you to change her clothes, but still.
As far as awesome paper models, from games, let me remind ya'all of the Dolphine Blue models. Rock.

Nope, it was a full blown PCB, with uninspired art from somebody other than the original Mushihime artist. Snoop around click's site, and you'll probably find it.pixelcorps wrote:undamned wrote:thought it was keitai (mobile) only???GaijinPunch wrote:

Lemme put this in perspectiive for everyone. These aren't handed out to people... they're mailed to arcades, and arcades only. They're meant for the shop keeps to cut out, "dress up" and decorate in the store to promote the game. It's not like Cave is asking their fans to delve into the bowels of the dress up world. Most people won't even see one unless they actively go out of their way and look for them.

Well, I watched vids of a location test, so I was refering to the fact that it does indeed exist in arcade form.GaijinPunch wrote:Was? More like "is to be". My point is simply that as much as the modern Porn industry has been pioneered here in the US, and as much money as the porn industry over here rakes in every year, those of us who are American have NO business painting the Japanese as being more perverted. That's nothing more then hypocrasy, IMO.pixelcorps wrote:yeah because they always have teenagers in their publicationsdave4shmups wrote:Umm, last time I checked Hugh Hefner and Larry Flint weren't Japanese namesDandy J wrote:Don't blame Cave, blame the wierdo Japanese culture.
Although I agree with UD-there's no need for Cave to go down to the lowest common denominator with this smut. Maybe Ibara would've done better if Cave had put more effort into the game itself, rather then all the sexual crap involved with it.

I'm surprised that you guys are getting your pants in a bunch over a cartoon character. I'd be more "outraged" if they used real people in this manner to market Mushi and Ibara. Unless the girl used was attractive, and over the Western legal age limit of course
Besides, imagine all the Japanese otaku paying money for this stuff. Sex sells. People line Cave's pockets with moolah. Moolah helps fund next big shootery proj. Job done.
And I say Japanese otaku. Especially considering this stuff isn't even targeted towards us fans outside of Japan in the first place.

Actually, there were some commercials for Mushihime using a "real" girl. Didn't get a look at her ID to check her age though.Icarus wrote:I'm surprised that you guys are getting your pants in a bunch over a cartoon character. What do you get when you cross "Smut" with Shmups, and vertical scrolling games by Cave?

PER-VERTS!!! Get it.

Maybe Cave should start making hentai shmups, thus gaining world domination, and recognition. Too bad us Westerners won't be able to import any games, all with thanks to $ony.

i think its just me, but i think Mushi' was targeting a younger audience (little girls/boys), cmon
paperdoll cut outs, easier gameplay (relatively), cutesy artwork, resin figures/models....
see? its for the kids, Cave is training them to be good shmupers like you guys, its all for the children!!
and i read somewhere that, Cave was trying for a "non-frightening" approach.. you know, cuz, even in japan, some people are "afraid" of hardcore shmups, most of the games Cave releases. so they are trying for a more appealing, consumer friendly game.
also, why is there always someone getting freaked out by japanese culture? i dont get it...
