MAME can't run Dragon Blaze with smooth controls
I've been getting dozens of vertical shooters for MAME (MAME32ip) since the arcade that used to have them near my place just closed down recently.
Long story short, I got dozens of vertical shooters and have no problems with the controls, except for Dragon Blaze. While playing Dragon Blaze, and I found that sometimes when I move to the right, or up-left/up-right, the keys would jam in that place, causing the death of my character. Also, I find myself doing the hold-A button attack occasionally even though I was tapping at it all the time, like how I did in other Psikyo games like the Strikers 1945 series.
And no, Dragon Blaze was running smoothly at 60FPS (just like the rest of the games I run on MAME), so I don't think it's due to the choppy video problem.
Oh, and I have the same control problems too when playing Marvel vs Capcom.
Anyone got solutions for this?

Try updating MAME, or if you've got the latest version extract it again, overwriting everything or at least the config. file
Whack the CFG file and the NVRAM file, if applicable.
Delete the INI.
Try an official build of MAME and see if the problem persists.
Here's the latest MAME32
and yes, you could fork over the $$ for the PS2 version if you don't mind it coming bundled with a titanic pile of shit on the disc, too
It's funny how everyone always shits on the ports and proclaim the originals to be better until you bring up emulation, then suddenly the ports reign supreme in every way.
If you DO decide to buy the game, do so soon while it still matters. Once the stuff is available via the second hand market only, you may as well pirate the games; the developer/publisher won't ever see any of your money either way.

Nah, the PS2 port of Dragon Blaze is far inferior from the emulated version - both with true-low-res and the general ways emulation allows you to fuck with it (savestates, replays, etc.) it's a matter of ethics, thoe.
I ordered it back in June and play-asia still hasn't shipped...this is going from secondhand impressions.

Plus you never have to worry about something supporting Tate, you just need to pass the option to rotate the screen. Hell, you don't even NEED Tate because it's going to be in the proper resolution and aspect any damn way without ever having to worry about wobble or screen cropping. Being able to play anything in Tate is just a nice bonus to emulation.Neon wrote:Nah, the PS2 port of Dragon Blaze is far inferior from the emulated version - both with true-low-res and the general ways emulation allows you to fuck with it (savestates, replays, etc.) it's a matter of ethics, thoe.
But yea, I like buying console versions of games I like when they come out to show my support to the developer

You mean how you'd like it? Do you like Gunbird 2? Basically the same basic idea (containment using close range attacks, but since there is no limit to their use it is more frequent and essential). It took awhile for me to get used to the style and rhythm of shooting the dragon and drawing it back, but after I got a hang of it it's really cool (and unique, which is more than can be said for some of Psikyo's games). The graphics are Psikyo's absolute best, very memorable colorful stages. The music is fitting.
Buy or emulate: buy.

^^Well Twitchdoctor, Dragon Blaze is, in my opinion, one of Psikyo's very best: tough as nails, with beautiful graphics and classic Psikyo gameplay.
If you're expecting the quality of, say, Gunbird 2's awesome DC port, you'll be sorely disappointed. The quality of the port in Psikyo Shooting Collection vol.3 is pretty much the same as the other entries in the series: muffled sound and a lack of true low-res graphics. It does have tate, though.
However, the quality of the game far outshines the port's flaws, IMO. And it does run a lot better than the emulation does (at least on my crappy computer).
Oh, and you also have my sympathies on the damage done to your auto. A Chevelle is a fine and wonderful thing. It's too bad some drunken assholes don't have the same respect for another man's property...

Yea, I really like the GunBirds. ( I own the Saturn and DreamCast versions)
So, you have a close range attack that you can always use...without having to "charge" it up?
How many characters/dragons? Does it have a more medieval look and feel than say compared to Dimahoo?
I'll seriously consider the port in the future, when Im ready to buy PS2 imports!

There are four characters/dragons, which are all well designed and correspond to the opening random levels (each have an element that is connected to the theme of the stage). No throwaways. The charge bar is only for magic use, which is like a regular charge attack.
The style is a lot like Dimahoo, an odd cartoonish medieval style with an assortment of ships and armored beasts, dragons, plants, etc. The little characters that occasionally pop up in the background add a bit of goofiness to it (like Dimahoo, I think). Obviously not very realistic.

I had this problem at one time with Mame too. You wouldn't happen to be using a USB keyboard, would you? My problem was that my X-arcade, even with the official ps2/usb adaptor, would stick and cause the character to head in one direction for about a second or two. Oddly, this never happened in any fighting game. Using straight ps2 worked correctly though.infested_ysy wrote:I've been getting dozens of vertical shooters for MAME (MAME32ip) since the arcade that used to have them near my place just closed down recently.

Interestingly, the problem was solved when Mame updated to the next version....lets see....that would have been around .79 or so.

Got it solved. It seems that the problems are all gone once I deleted my current MAME and replace it with MAME Plus!v.99.I had this problem at one time with Mame too. I can't TATE my laptop, so I own the PS2 version as well.

Hail Atlantis!
You can add me to that list.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote:For once, Rob and myself actually agree on something!Rob wrote:Savestates and replays? Psh, girl stuff.

What? Laptops are made for tate gaming on the go. Hell, about the only thing I use my old laptop for anymore is as a Dodonpachi/Guwange box.ResOGlas wrote:I can't TATE my laptop, so I own the PS2 version as well.

Well, my laptop is too expensive for me to risk it. Plus, it's more fun to flip a TV anyway.roushimsx wrote:What? Laptops are made for tate gaming on the go. Funny, I think that happened to someone I know once.
