Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
Alright, it's getting close to that time again, folks. Seeing as AKS comes out on the 26th of May, I'll suggest the Saturday the week after (June 4th). If that looks cool for everyone, we'll have it then. Otherwise, post alternatives.
Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
I may be able to attend this, depending on where it's located. Provided I'm invited, of course =].
Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
Gaithersburg, MD. And you're certainly welcome to attend.
Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
Looks okay, or at least I'm not aware of anything else I'm supposed to be doing that weekend.

Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
The following weekend would work better for me, but I can probably make it anyway if that doesn't work out as well for you guys.
EDIT: Nevermind, family stuff just came up on the June 11-12 weekend, so I guess I'll be blowing off some lesser commitments on June 4 instead.
EDIT2:
[23:34] <StCreator> oops, just checked email and looks like grandma is coming to down june 11-12
[23:34] <StCreator> so that weekend is out!
[23:34] <StCreator> I should put that down on my phone
[23:34] <victolap> lol better edit your post too
[23:35] <victolap> bring your grandma
[23:35] <victolap> we'll teach her how to shmup
[23:35] <victolap> (that sounds so dirty)
[00:03] <Zakk> I'll credit feed your grandma

That's pretty close by! I'll see if I can make this, then get back to you.
I'm not sure if I can contribute too much besides my person, though. I've got Thunder Force V on Saturn and Raiden Trad on SNES, but that's about it =P.
Oh! I do have a copy of Crimzon Clover on hand that might be useful, if you folks haven't got one already.

What's for food? Keeping with tradition, good ideas might be Ethiopian or Peruvian.
Have we done Pizza yet actually? Matchbox is real good, but might be a bit too expensive. You HAVE to have reservations as well.

I was asking StC about Korean BBQ (aka Mongolian BBQ) but not really sure what's around there now that Dolsa's gone. I guess if Akai Katana Shin ends up being the big new thing this time, Japanese might fit the theme too. As far as I remember, we've never done pizza at any of the meets I was at. Peruvian would be cool, I've never had guinea pig beforeGwyrgyn Blood wrote:What's for food?

I have the Saturn version of Guardian Heroes. Anyone interested in that? Should I bring it along in case we decide to do notshmups for a bit and play some other stuff (like awesome beat em' ups)?

I have a Japanese copy of Guardian Heroes. If yours is a US copy, you'll need to bring a US Saturn as mine is a Japanese unit.Blackbird wrote:I have the Saturn version of Guardian Heroes. Definitely bring along a favourite pad or joystick if you've got one.

Typically the nontshmups portion of the night involves Gwyrgyn destroying us at SSFIV or MvC3

We could play Puyo Puyo this time since Magical Drop didn't really stick last time
I'm terrible at Puyo though

BTW if anyone wants some nice CRT televisions for $40-50 when you're here, we can do a field trip to the Goodwill down the road

There's actually a photo of a CRT and a phone number on the bulletin board at the local post office here - apparently the guy is trying to give it away for free. A month later and the posting is still up, so I don't know if he didn't have any takers or if he was just too lazy to take his contact information down...

All kinds, like, ranging from 15-42?", all different makes! There's bound to be one in a size you'd like

We'll see you guys this coming Saturday. Deli swirls have already been acquired. If some of you would be so kind as to bring some drinks, we'd appreciate it.

I would have totally brought up gallons of sweet tea from Cook Out if I had seen your message before leaving Raleigh.

I'm all for green tea.

By drinks do you mean beer? Cause I can probably help with that. :I
Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
I know at least a couple other people who would go for that, too bad there's no gaming out on the porchGwyrgyn Blood wrote:By drinks do you mean beer? Cause I can probably help with that. :I

By drinks we mean liquid refreshment
I know the Gatorades were popular in the past, but I kinda don't have a job anymore and haven't gotten any more of them. Also tea, soda, and lemonade have worked, but we are not as such opposed to the alcoholic variety.

I'm not exactly big on alcohol, lol, but tea, soda, lemonade... whatever, sounds great!
And yes, I'm coming~~ Starcreator has said he'll give me a ride. :3
I don't really have any shmup you guys don't have, so bringing anything like that is moot. I have a pound of loose herbal tea from teavana I could bring, I just gotta warn you, it's a little tart in flavor.
Another tea I have is this (loose, too) gunpowder tea blend I happen to have, and it's rather nice, too.
But loose tea can be a pain to prepare (I don't have a large enough strainer, anyways), so unless you want it, I won't bring it.

If you have a favourite joystick or pad, bring that. If you want to bolster your gamer-score, you can always bring your tag on a memory card/thumb drive.BrightSuzaku wrote:I'm not exactly big on alcohol, lol, but tea, soda, lemonade... whatever, sounds great!

It's probably best to bring brewed tea, simply for ease.

Gonna bring some home brew and a few other random easy drinking beers. Any decision on dinner? Matchbox is obvious out unless you want to eat at like 4PM. :I
Re: Summer 2011 MD/VA/DC Area Shmupmeet
If somehow no decision is made, there was a vote for Peruvian earlier. We know/have tried two Peruvian places--one's kind of a pain to get in but the other is just behind Lakeforest Mall. Didn't see guinea pig on the menu, tho
Otherwise, have some suggestions in mind before you get here, or it's to the Urbanspoon

Is that the Peruvian place right next to the H-Mart? (If so, that's adjacent to Tortacos which is really fantastic)Minzoku wrote:If somehow no decision is made, there was a vote for Peruvian earlier. There's the Peruvian place in Rockville Town Center but I've never been there so I can't say if it's good or not.
