CAVE should really remake DoDonPachi

Post by apple arcade »

Think about it. All the sprites they need to give it a HD remake already exist within DFK, from bosses to enemies to the ships. All they would have to do is create new HD backgrounds. Keep the mechanics and system all the same. It would be awesome. We would have all the main games on the 360.

They could also remake the campaign version as an arrange mode, and of course keep the original unupdated graphics in as an arcade mode.

They could even add in hypers for a more modern arrange mode, maybe even the DOJ or DFK bosses.

...dunno may sound like a pipe dream. I think it would be an easy way to cash in and please fans at the same time.

I was actually thinking what would happen if they ever made a Ketsui Black Label. What changes would they make? Of course they'd update the graphics to stand with the other SH-3 (or 4) games, so I wonder how nice it would look.

I wish they would release (or the owners dump) the Blue ROM.

CAVE should just make new games, not rehash old ones.

Cave should stop making bullet hell shooters and merge with Raizing, Gazelle and Takumi to form Toaplan again. Then make a sequel to Hellfire and Zero Wing, because let's face it they haven't spent nearly enough time with horizontals.

But you know if that happened universal collapse would be just around the corner.

Didn't they add rudimentary hypers in the Campaign version of DDP?

It's wishful thinking, but I'd definitely buy a Dodonpachi if they did with it what they did with Guwange minimum and have arcade mode, blue (campaign mode) and some other kind of mode possibly along the lines of what you've mentioned (ie HD mode, though I think some of Campaign version's graphics are actually improved over normal DDP anyway) to try and rack in new players. It'd be a hit seller worldwide even just for the blue mode and a port that isn't complete balls like the PS3 version with its supposed input lag and insta-slowdown button.

CAVE doesn't have the source code for DDP Campaign anymore, so unless the owner decides to dump the board or give it back to them, it's unlikely that we'll ever get to play it. Alternatively, CAVE could try remaking the game from DDP on up, but it probably won't be the same if they also no longer have the original design spec, assuming they even had one in the first place.

Er ... why? ... DFK selling too much? Logically, I can't see them investing in doing this.

Personally if they do a re-release I wouldn't want to play it in hd-glowy-spack-mode anyway; it's not what it is in my mind. I'm fine with dfk being dfk and ddp being ddp.

SH-4 FTW! :)

Personally I wouldn't want to see Dodonpachi get the pre-render treatment. Yech.

That's basically it isn't it.

What you want is for someone to erase your memory of it so you can relive the moment... an impossible notion (anyway memory and your brain are one and the same bar a few pieces of infrastructure). Better to be happy with the game, unsoiled by the poor taste that lingers in this age. I don't know if Cave could pull it off with the same spirit, DDP was made around the later half of the 90s which was a high time for gaming.

Besides! Even a small graphical change would make it a new game, so really a remake is just another kind of sequel isn't it? We've got several already and one unreleased version. I'm really sure it'll pop up one day...

Exactly! The pixel art is second to none. DFK looks pretty sweet but like most pre-rendered stuff, somewhat lacking in character. A counter example would be Ketsui, which has the best pre-rendered graphics in my opinion, mostly because it was touched up so well and the style suited it.
<RegalSin> It does not matter, which programming language you use, you will be up your neck in math.

Seriously, I can't see any difference between pixel and pre-rendered games in cave shmups.

They should make a fan service game with a cool select rooster of Ketsui ships, Reco/Palm + the DOJ ships etc including time travel where you end up in Feudal Japan. 8) In 2D HD on new arcade hardware with built in Black Label that unlocks after 4 months.

I'll be honest. If CAVE "remade" DoDonPachi, I'd buy it. And so would a lot of people posting here.

But I don't think it will ever happen so I'm probably safe here.

I personally wouldnt mind if Cave did the same to DDP as Guwange and adding an extra blue mode. While Caves new games are great, they do seem to be caught in the idea that more bullets with lots of effects = better game. Having them revist DDP or the other older titles is the only way I can see Cave coming away from this mentality.
