Supergun and my first PCB testing!

The Vogatek Mk II works great, everything fired up on first try! Don't have the controls mounted to a panel at the moment, so hard to play, plus my TV isn't 'tated obviously

Next up, I recommend to get some PCB mounting feet or you'll get haunted by an uneasy feeling everytime you take out your PCBs.

EDIT: I see Jonny5 already initiated the first fear.

Yes I need to grab some feet and a piece of corrugated or wood to rest the board on for sure.

Currently working on controls. I have a custom stick I built for PS2/PC use, and I've already pulled that PCB out of it and am wiring up the controls to a female DB15 connector to mount on the box.

Then I just need to wire up another female DB15 connector to the terminals on my supergun and I'm all set!

Whoops, I said DB15 when I meant HD15 -- the solder cup style.

Which, btw, are a huge pain in the ass to solder.

But I've picked up some smaller gauge wire, and hopefully second attempt goes better.

Otherwise I'm going back to Active Surplus and looking for some DB25 crimp-on connectors instead.

It is true!

I was using 18AWG stranded wire ... and it totally wasn't working.

Did it all over again from scratch today, and used 24AWG solid instead, MUCH better results:



This is much cleaner than what I had done with the 18AWG.

And then did the same thing with the pad-hacked PCB I pulled out of the stick:



I tested it out, everything is working perfectly! Now just have to pop the pad PCB into a project box, cut a couple of openings for the cord and the HD15 connector, and I'm set!

Need to get a few more HD15 female connectors so I can build some more boxes ...

Yeah, 18 is a bit too thick. I usually use about 24 AWG stranded (the diamaters are a bit different here than AWG).

Got the controls sorted finally with HD15 connectors. Works perfectly with my stick, 4 directions, 10 buttons and ground.
