That doesn't look too bad. If you add scanlines using a XRGB or SLG3000 do you even notice the jailbars anymore ?

btw: what's your capture device for RGBs ?

XRGB2 -> VGA Splitter -> Gefen VGA to DVI (at 720P, other setting causes tearing...) -> AverTV HD DVR HDMI input

Perhaps pull back the resistors and boom! Proper color correction, aside from modding the RGB cable you should be able to do this with the XRGB-3 RGB 21 Term at 220 ohms.

It should be able to produce a non-glaring signal straight off the bat though, isn't RGB Family Computer/NES mods heavily dependant on PPU chip itself? Which is a crap shoot to begin with?

That signal level is using 75 ohm resistors for the RGB lines. I guess it's too bright compared to a regular Famicom signal but I kind of like it this way.
Anyway, I was trying to fix some intermittent artifacting in the video and in the process I think I short circuited something on the board.
Fidgeting with the board while the power is on = bad idea.

Oh well, I'll be getting some more AV famicoms from YAJ as modding fodder.
While I'm still getting the jailbars as you see above, the signal is still cleaner
compared to the NES RGB mod, so I think this is indeed the best system to use for RGB mods.

Also, I was under the impression that all the PPUs are basically the same.
I have two different PPUs (one from VS Duck Hunt, one from a PC10 mobo)
and I can't tell any difference between the two in terms of video output.

I might try adding some caps to the RGB lines and to the 5V supply to see if I can improve the jailbars.

Not all are the same.

You just happened to pick the two that are a close match to the NES one.

Vs. Super Mario Bros and Vs. Castlevania, for example have different PPUs, and the colors will be all wrong if you try to use one.
