I really like Demon's Souls, but I have to disagree on CV should be like that. They're quite different.

Yeah, despite their many superficial similarities, they are quite different, but so were Super Metroid and Castlevania prior to SotN, and I think that turned out pretty well, though I know some people disagree.

In general, I'd just love for this formula to be copied by other games.

New trailer, and a release date kinda (October 2011): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqaysjKcw-g

There's a good chance this will be my favorite game of all time. Looks incredible.

Dark Souls is possibly the game I look forward to the most. Beating even The Last Guardian.

Apparently this isn't getting a Japanese 360 release?

Hopefully PSN will be up by October.

I don't think Demon's Souls uses PSN at all for its online features.

Though with Dark Souls they hinted at making a more "future safe" solution that doesn't require Atlus servers to run all the time - I guess that could mean they want to make use of PSN.

It requires PSN for online.

I can't wait to be kicked in the balls again and again and again

and this is NOT Castlevania 3D

it's S&M punishment kings field punishment from hell... that takes you to heaven.

I love games that don't care that they are hard. <3

Yeah. FROM developed the PS3 version & will publish it in Japan, meanwhile Bamco is finishing the port and will publish both versions in the rest of the world. All while trying to do a worldwide release in October 2011. Or so was the plan, apparently... Dunno if the Fukushima-events or power outages changed that.

lead platform , so that's usually the rule.

From have been insane this gen. Also rubbing my hands waiting for Armored Core 5 (but that's X360 all the way for online/engine is better on Xbox)

An "EDIT" to my above post; seems things have indeed changed a bit for that worldwide release: Japan is getting it already in September, EU & NA in October.

Also, special edition pack will feature a guide, artbook, soundtrack and making of DVD.

Played Demon Souls recently and loved it. I am regretting watching all these trailers for DS. It ruins the surprise. I'm gonna try go embargo mode from now on. October 2011 will be the month that I buy a full-priced game in about 10 years.

Ugh, looks like I have no choice but to get the PS3 version then. I only have a Japanese 360 and don't really like how westerners played Demon's Souls PVP.

Still looking forward to this a great deal though. I thought Demon's Souls was the best RPG for PS3 for a long time.

Didn't they say before that the player interaction was worldwide in Dark Souls instead of what it was in Demons' Souls?

I hope the release dates between PAL/US and JP won't be too far off each other, otherwise I might just end up importing the JP/Asia version. I also saw some pictures of the collector's edition before, I'm really tempted to get it when it comes out.
Collector's edition confirmed for europe that features a steelbook, a DVD, soundtrack, artbook, exclusive DLC
I just wonder if it's possible to get the same feel as when you played Demon's Souls for the first time, now that you know all the mechanics and played the game over and over again.

Can't wait!

Yah I remember hearing something along those lines too, but there's a possibility that was just Bamco's statement regarding EU & NA versions...?
That info is probably to be found in some older interview archived in the wiki, too lazy too look for it so I'll just drop the link for those interested: http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Art ... Interviews

I'll end up buying import & domestic CE anyways.

Tbh, from the little we know about the game there are already a good amount of changes and new game-mechanics in place that should be enough to give the gameplay a different feel. IIRC there was also a mention of the control-scheme being changed a bit. Dunno if that's good or bad. :|

Etiquette. I can count on one hand the amount of agreeable experiences I've had in random invasions and duels. People don't care about honoring a 1v1 battle, they just want to curb stomp and if they aren't winning they disconnect.

The problem is that there's many unwritten rules about the PVP in this game. 4-1 is the most common pvp arena, with 1-3 being the next common. Of course, you're not going to have people invade in 5-3 for respectable battles and it's pretty obvious if someone wants to 1v1 due to bowing. Nobody will use 1-1 of NG+ for PVP either.

4-1 is mostly the game's pvp arena though. Japanese (and most people on Asian servers) bow before battle, and don't firestorm or attack while you're loading. Of course there's still players who do that, it just happens far less on the Asian servers.

What the above two posters said. Add to that that shortly after the game's US realease, pretty much any invader I had on those servers carried a Purple Flame Shield & Scraping Spear. Not a problem to kill those pathetic turtles, it's just that the whole US PvP "ambience" looked weak, cheap, and boring. No variation whatsoever. Granted, apparently things have greatly changed for the better now, but I had switched back to the asian servers before that. Much more randomness there even a year after the game's release.

Something else, did anyone in here solve the puzzle on the Preparetodie page? I tried several times a whole night long by refreshing the browsercache, but gave up and just cheated my way through. You'll get emailed a code to get some goodies for solving it.

Really? On a forum where people are used to 1cc'ing Cave games, DS is considered hard?
I can understand the mainstream media constantly pointing out its "extreme" difficulty because it doesn't lead the player's hand like every other game nowadays, but all beating DS took me was getting into how the game worked and move forward slowly so I wouldn't take any chances.

It's definitely a very challenging game, and that's what I love about it, but at no point did a challenge seem like it was too hard to me. I always just figured I should do something else to progress safely.

Oh god, Scraping Spear. For those who don't know, it's like PVPing with a weapon that breaks your opponent's weapon, rendering it useless until they've repaired it outside of PVP.

I suspect an Asian 360 version to come along though. If so, I'll just get that. Knowing Namco they'll lock the US version to US only.

^^Check the walls on the frontpage closely; there should be glyphs inscribed in them. One random glyphs should start to blink - click on it and it glows, starting a game about clicking the glyphs in the correct order. You're only allowed a few mistakes until a message pops up telling you to retry the day after. (you can just delete cache & reload for another try)

The difficulty is a bit crazy, since the glyph order is completely random and you have to pick whole 30 glyphs correctly in a row with just about 3 mistakes allowed (I think the game starts with 5 mistakes allowed).

Most of what made DS hard was not understanding the game mechanics nor how to build a character. I ended up cheating and read an FAQ on making an optimal build, and suddenly the game was easy. Of course, before any of you criticize me of cheating, I had put about 60 agonizing, frustrating hours into the game before using the FAQ.
