A question for Fudoh (or anyone else who might know). Would the Gefen vga to dvi scaler placed after the slg3000 possibly fix the problem of a monitor not being able to upscale 640x480 resolution properly on its own (and thereby eliminate moire patterns), or is this scaler not really a good one? Can it output specific resolutions like 1366x760 or only 720p? and is it possible a 1366x768 tv will correctly display even scanlines if it is fed 720p from the gefen scaler?

Scanlines upscaled to 720p by the Gefen VGA to DVI scaler plus looks alright. It supports a variety of different obscure PC resolutions so it might also have 1366x768. My TV doesn't support that resolution so I can't say for sure.

hi, there are two games (deathsmiles 2 and muchimuchi pork/pink sweets), that in 480p is shown in a minipanoramic band with two big black bars at tne top/botton. Is this normal?.

I have tried it in 1080 and works perfect. Any solution to see it propertly with the slg3000?

On DS2 that's normal. The port just doesn't support 4:3. MMP/PS on the other hand has a 4:3 mode which you have to activate in the game's options.

My apologies if this has been answered before but how many frames of lag (if any) are introduced by the scanline processing? I've read that it's supposed to be good but even 2-3 frames is too much for me.

zero, not even a fraction. The SLG3000 is an analogue device without a frame buffer, so it does add no delay whatsoever.

No doubt which makes it the perfect add-on for my XRGB. Saps the lag right out of there.

I'm currently using the following for video and analog audio:
XRGB-2plus -> AA VGA to Component Transcoder -> AA Component Distribution -> Plasma HDTV

Now, I've purchased one of those $40 CGA to VGA adapters off of eBay and an SLG to put in place of the XRGB to see how it performs but not confident that it will be better in any way. The XRGB setup is quite good and only results in noticable dot crawl for me with negligible lag (ie I don't notice any in any action heavy games as my TV has minimal lag).

Does anyone have any perspective on how the SLG will work in my setup?

If you already have a XRGB you will see no benefit with the CGA to VGA scaler, apart from perhaps stability with some of the awkward inputs. However you will suffer image quality (ringing) and increased lag with the CGA to VGA scaler, over the XRGB.

Hey all,

so, that`s all :) v1 PCBs are completly sold! I`ve done a new layout for v2 PCBs which covers some minor issues like additional pull ups and simplifying manufacturing. SLG v2 still features the potentiometer axis. DIP was reduced to just two DIP switches for the resolution settings. And v2 has a footprint for an simple on and off switch. This footprint can be used for screw terminal, too.

PCBs should arrive very soon. Additionally I`ve thrown some sync strike pcb into the PCB order :)

if someone ordered v1 and has not received it yet, then it can be replaced by a pre-order of v2

If you look back in the thread, there are polarity issues with certain upscalers and the HDfury2, Winni commented that he was considering adding dip switches to invert the polarity on a future revision.
HI
I have readed the many posts and replies with great interest.
The second release will get a possibility to change the sinc polarity via DIPs.
I will make my mind up this prob and work it out.
At this time I think, the DIPs 1, 2 and 3 are not really needed.

ah, Winnie took some efforts to realize this additional polarity switch, but this preliminary design ends in much more parts and a bigger pcb, thus a much higher price. So we decided to skip this issue and go with the well tested design.

will there be a place for pcb feet in V2? I'd like to case one up with a cga2vga pcb and will need a way to mount the device in the case.

you could use a case for that ... I kept the size of the pcb to go with old cases

That's because the HDFury is a one-way only HDMI to VGA converter and HDCP decrytor.

In other words: you're using it the wrong way around.

That's right... what can I use instead?

I want to capture with intensity shuttle x360 after slg3000 scanline

Another type of transcoder if your capture card does not take a RGBHV input. You can buy VGA to HDMI or VGA to Component transcoders.

why ? It's much easier to create a scanline overlay after the capture...

Anyway - you can use a transcoder (VGA to component) like the Kramer FC-14, but that only works if the VGA output of the 360 is actually 59.94Hz and not 60Hz. If it's 60Hz you need something like a DVDO scaler which can decouple the output from the input and output 59.94Hz no matter what comes in.

Turning on the Scanlines in the XRGB3's B1 mode adds no additional lag compared to having them switched off.

Hey,

I`ve restructered the product page for SLG a little bit to meet the most wishes.

I`m offering now SLG PCB only with Screw Terminals. I guess that SLG with PCB only will be used in fixed environments like Cabs or home theater installation. This way a switch can be wired down to the screw terminal. The SLG is hidden in the equipment somewhere I guess.

Second the SLG with case will come now with a switch. This is a new feature for v2.

Leave me a PM or mail if you want pcb only with a switch or cased version with STerminals.

Again no external PSU is needed for v2.

Got my SLG 3000v2 in the mail today. Looking neat :) I can't really fully test it atm since I've lost my Wii component cables, but so far I did see some picture using just my HD Box Pro connected to it, and with my PSP. Some questions do pop up though.

- Does the SLG 3000 only support scanlines on the resolutions mentioned? I'd like to use a 16-9 resolution that the HD Box Pro can supply.
- Is it correct that the potentionmeter's stick does not have the rond knob attached that I see on photos.

Image

- Is it correct that I do not see scanlines whatsoever and the potentionmeter only has some effect on the pictures brightness? Also, the on/off switch made the picture bright (on) vs dull (off).

I hope I can play my Wii with scanlines on my HP w2207 though :)
