WEDNESDAY 20th APRIL :!:
after a few arrangements, i'm down on this day... and the days after that for this week from 6pm onwards
Dave_K. wrote:Guess who will be traveling to London a week after your shmupmeet? I 'm trying to arrange my plans so I can hang out at Casino either in the evening on Sunday May 1st or during the day on Monday May 2nd. The 2nd is some kind of holiday over there right?

Anyway, if anyone isn't completely burned out from the shmupmeet, let me know and we can try to meet up.
welcome to the Casino thread Dave_K.
i should be around after 6pm, i only work down the road so...
some confirmed dates would be nice

Thanks CHI. Itinerary is still being confirmed, but its looking like I'll be at Casino Sunday (May 1st) afternoon through to dinner, so suggestions on places to eat are also welcome.

Can't make it tonight, but I have a day off work on Thursday so I'll join HZT for some last minute practice before the meet!

Dave_K, there are tons of cool places to eat near Casino but personally I endorse Niko Niko on Percy Street, near the big HSBC building.
I'm sure CHI has plenty more suggestions as well, and I hope you have a great time in London!

I popped in last weekend. I like the way Futari displays blue and green the same and Progear's screen rolls during the final boss.

Agreed! And I'll be dropping by Casino tomorrow evening, anyone else going to be there? Thought I'd be fatigued from the meet, but I'm still really pumped and feel like practicing lots.

I can't really make this evening but at lunchtime I left a lot of scores for you to have fun beating.

The meet inspired me to try milking the icicles and now I can leave the second stage with 60 million, and I should be able to get the second extend at the end of the third stage if it goes well... the trouble is it must make the rank higher or something because I'm struggling to get out of the third stage now.

Nice job! About the rank - haha, yeah, that's how it goes. The rank is based pretty much entirely around your overall counter, so the better you do on early stages, the harder the later ones are going to be. :P

I'm in Brighton for a week (anyone know if there's a mini Casino round these parts - it's only been a day and I'm going cold turkey) - should be in next Wednesday... then I'm off again for another week.

Nothing even close to a mini casino mate (sadly :( ).

There are plenty of arcades about, Brighton pier being the most obvious but it's all the newer stuff and mostly crap. On West Street (leading directly from the station to the seafront) there's a Family Leisure with some arcades in it (Rambo, Maximum Tune 3, Guitar Hero, Ghost Squad and little else).

Or there's this place, probably the last bastion of retro gaming in the town:

There's a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs cab in Brighton? I am definitely checking that out if I visit my mother's this weekend.

Woah, how many people are in Brighton this weekend.

I'm waiting on a call from my folks actually as they also said they wanted to come down for a few days.

Worthing actually, but I hang out in Brighton because Worthing sucks.

Anyone in Casino tonight? I'll probably drop by around 7.

I'll be down from 7:30 this evening. Hopefully HZT can show me how to milk the icicles properly, I'm not getting as much of a score boost as I ought to from doing that at the moment.

@Skykid - thanks for the info. The place was closed when I dropped by, but I think I went there a few years ago and they had a sit down Outrunners cab.

Man, seaside arcades were once a big deal. I'm sure with the right games and set up you could turn a profit in those places even now, just has to be done right. - I talked briefly with Icarus abut this at the meet.

Mighty depressing seeing arcades just rammed full of fruit machines these days.

Growing up near Eastbourne, seaside arcades are also where I got the bug. I wish they were still as glorious as I remember. Playing credits on a pier when you can look down at your feat and see the waves through the cracks in the floor is the way to do it!

I'll be at Casino this evening (Sunday) somewhere around 5-6pm, and stick around to hopefully meet up with CHI. If anyone else is in the area, come on down! I'll be walking around exploring earlier in the day, and probably check out the Troc given those shmupmeet pics looked pretty sweet.

Had a fun time at Casino, meeting CHI and Taylor, playing a few rounds of Futari (I really am out of practice on that game), and then chatting shumps over some beers. The Troc was also pretty nice (much larger than I expected). I found a few Jaleco Mark II 28 cabs there playings Raiden II and Fire Barrel/Air Assult.

Nice to see you enjoyed it Dave_K, shame it was a week after the big meet, maybe we'll see you some day too.

And to spadgy, the meet before was number 8, and even you made the thread! http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32501

Sorry folks - I've been rubbish with attendence since the meet.

I know Tuesday's are meant to be our 'regular' day, but both mine have been busy since the meet.

I'm going to try and pop in Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Anybody about?

No way I can make it this week, horrible exam timetable has left with me with with a stupid amount of work crammed into the next couple of days.

The flip side of this is that I will definitely be there next Tuesday (and basically any day I'm in London after that) as I have fuck all to do after Monday.
