1942 looks like one of the hardest shmups ever.
This game is all about getting in the zone, and staying there. Your performance and scoring potential start going downhill at your first death, and after that it's all about endurance because the game stops giving extends after one million points (the last one is at 960k) and there are only like 5 or 6 black POW extend pickups in the game. On default settings this means you can max out at around 20 lives, but there are 32 stages so you have to average less than one death per stage overall!
emphatic wrote:Congrats! Very nicely done. LOL at the continue screen after the final stage. What would happen if you'd chosen yes? Also, what happens if you clear a stage without killing anything? Do you get 0 pts bonus or a secret one?
If you accept the continue offer it starts back on the first stage with 0 points, so it's basically starting a new game.
If shoot nothing on the stage (harder than it sounds!) then you get no bonus.

Some bits from this year's London Meet.

Dodonpachi (Prometheus, A-L, 2-4 to 2-7, 248mil)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azS4QiHFubU

Time Crisis 4 (Smraedis, ALL Clear, 5.09mil)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7q3lDt3oRE

Couple of other clips recorded by CHI in the meet thread, including both of my Futari 1.5 Original shitclears with Reco-N (297mil and 319mil), a run by Sapz to st5 (275mil), and Prometheus' Maniac 212mil run. http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... &start=120

A couple more to come, including a quick demo of Deadstorm Pirates, and a Point Blank Beginner Mode clear, both by Smraedis.

I watched that Dodonpachi run earlier, top notch stuff. Are those SUZO 500 sticks on that cab?

Pretty sure you'll find they are made by a company called "MCA". They are the same ones in all the cabs in Aus too.

Me and two of my friends have made a video of me drilling them through the first stage of Touhou 11 - SA Lunatic with live commentary. Its pretty neat if I should say so myself. :V

They have never played a shoot em' up before so I didn't make them play anything really evil.

Sorry 'bout only 480p. Happens.

I wonder if I should try making them play DDP or something like that sometime.

Oh wow, that 2nd loop looks like quite a dramatic change from the usual fare. Pretty depressing that Konami made it seemingly impossible to see any further. And holy shit did you ever make short work of the bosses.

Thanks a lot, Seahawk and ChainsawGuitarSP. :)

Yeah, depending on where you die in the second loop, recovering is either agonizingly difficult or just shy of impossible. Or maybe just impossible, ha ha. I'm not sure what H. Machiguchi and co. were thinking when they designed this aspect of the game.

Probably the sound of coins dropping into their purses from the arcade players trying to figure the second loop out.

Anyway, great show as usual.

Here's a 203m Ketsui run. Lots of needless deaths but a pretty nice milestone, and 2-3 went better than it probably had any right to. :)
