Hey ResOglas...have you ever 1CC'd DDP?
I play all my games on either Normal, or default. I would reccomend simply playing DoDonPachi on normal. That way, when (if) you ever master it. That is, beat it with all three craft...then you can always increase the challenge further. Its already hard, at least give yourself a chance to "grow into" it.

Never play on Easy though...thats just plain sad.

Anyone that looks at the screen while playing a shooter is a pussy.

And I like tacos.

Good to meet someone else who only plays on max difficulty. I crank up the difficulty to max on every game I play... so much more rewarding. Play on that, and all of a sudden score doesn't seem as important -- it sure gets your priorities straight. Also, there are fewer DULL MOMENTS, as is so often the case in the early levels (and even later levels sometimes) of shooters. All intense, all the time. Only way to play :P DDP is quite playable on very hard though... (pity I can't 1CC it... but damn is it fun).

Playing on default means nothing (plus it's just too easy on a lot of games). It's just for standardisation purposes, which is fair enough. If you have a minimum challenge you like to accept, you'll adjust difficulty accordingly.

but you probably never 1CC a shmup on max dif, let alone on defaults.
so whats the point?
you can chicken out of playing for score by ramping up the difficulty, in most games it doesnt make that much of a difference (rank increases slightly faster, at least as far as psikyo and cave games go) it accomplishes nothing.

maybe you cant face sucking on defaults, so you ramp it up, and suck, so then you suck HARD.

 It's so hilarious how you're talking down to everyone when you SUCK at DDP! I tried once, I've only played DDP like a handful of times in my life and my first go on very hard yielded a score of 15 mil. Still a crap score, but double your crap score.

You, sir, are a pathetic loser. It's also hilarious (and a bit disturbing) how you call yourself "elite" when you are clearly one of the worst shmup players on this forum (if not THE worst), in terms of skill.

True... I guess 99% of shmups.com plays shmups for the sole purpose of "beating" them on default. To each his/her own. I like to think my enjoyment of shmups has matured a bit more than that. In any case, I see manics shmups as a sport (and you can't "beat" a sport, really... there is not really any max score or path... you continually perfect yourself). Hori's I treat closer to a platform game or something similar (longer, more thematic, but there's a limit to how much memorizing I want to do, so you drain yourself until you beat it then don't really fancy playing it again for a while).

Nothing you said quite made sense... "chickening out" by ramping up difficulty? Sucking HARDER on hard? A tad backwards, but anyway :P

p.s. I forced my sister beat a psykio game on easiest difficulty once (strikers 1945 2 from memory). It only took her a few attempts. It made me appreciate their well-catered difficulty system.

just as a note, in psikyo games, easier difficulty settings are much easier than defaults, less to no bullets, etc..doesnt apply to cave games.
that was just to make your example worthless. there's a reason the easiest setting is called "monkey"

bottom line is, if you you suck at defaults, why play on hard, and call yourself elite for it, especially since it doesnt change the difficulty much (in most shmups anyway, certainly cave games)
if you're so l33ter than us, beat our scores.
but you cant.
so you tell yourself "i cant because i play on hard"
excuses = t3h loose.

and when people crush your crap hard mode score on their first try, you = owned.

This is very true.

It's cool if you want to play on very hard mode for kicks. That's great. Just the way you came around saying "duuur there's no way you guys are playing on very hard mode! You guys aren't REAL players" and all that shit riled us up. With good reason. Especially since you can only get 7.2 mil on hard mode.

Well, you guys have all proved it to me. The majority of you get your panties all up in a wad over nothing. I was just fucking around, but this place lacks almost all sense of humor. I was serious about how I only play on very hard, but I just find games more fun that way. That doesn't mean that you guys are bad at the games or worse than me, I just found it odd. Flame away and call me a troll, but at least try to leave your minds open in the future aside from cold calculated memorization and emulation.

The fact that I DO think I am l33ter than you has nothing to do with shmups (just life in general), and in fact I never stated such an opinion. :P If ResOGlas did he was just being facetious. The rest of you all, however, seem to be highly uptight members of this shmupping community. Then again, I only read these forums for entertainment and news (man click-stick has been quiet lately), and I guess you always get entertainment here.

Face the fact that some people play a game for punishment... to get completely PWNED and work up a sweat doing it. Not everyone plays for hollow mantlepiece trophies :P I won't play on a setting I know is going easy on me. It's like playing an old atari game from the first level... boring as all fuck for ages.

Yes, that must explain why I'm better than you at DDP (even though I've only played it a couple times) and you're a laughably elitist SOB. Brilliant deduction.

Have you ever 1CC DoDonpachi on full defaults?
Well I have, and I can hardy say that it was a "hollow" experience!

The only way I could understand someone playing on hard is becuase they already mastered the game on default "normal".

D also plays games on hard...he just doesn't act like an elitest about it.

I don't play on default, so I find that accomplishment somewhat impossible :P
TWITCHDOCTOR wrote:The only way I could understand someone playing on hard is becuase they already mastered the game on default "normal".
Someone who likes their games hard might also have a good reason to put it on hard. Fancy that?

Sounds like a cool guy. Spread the HARD LOVE people! :P

Before more trash is added to this thread, keep in mind just who are the flamers here... Neither I or the original poster, who have both posted in good spirits. Res put forward a challenge to everyone, and obviously no one is really interested, but don't flame him for it. Think of this thread as a small protest against mediocrity :P Mediocrity always prevails, of course, but spare a thought for those of us who think a bit differently. We still ALL love shmups, so...

ResOGlas derailed the DoDonPachi with his text-diarrhea when it was clear that the thread was made specifically for Default mode score table. That's the reason why he got flamed, when ResOGlas could have just challenged everyone by starting a new thread dedicated to Very Hard.

So, in summation, for those who say that we're flaming and whatnot; shut the fuck up. At least we have a modicum of common sense when and where to post in the correct form / thread without derailing or flaming. (Unless it's warranted or asked for.)

the 2 tards: stop the passive-agressive bullshit already, seriously, not only your main posts were inane, but now you look like complete fools.

and for the sake of it:

Sorry mate, it was your example, so DENIED :P See your earlier comments on psykio difficulty.

and how is it revelant to this "discussion" if the difficulty doesnt change much when you raise it (slight rank increase at higher rate), only when you decrease it? is this topic about decreasing or increasing difficulty? explain.

My mantelpiece trophies aren't hollow! They're full of pride. My pride, so I know it's good stuff.

Sometimes I fill them with cocaine mixed with absinthe, tobasco sauce and rat poison (for that extra kick!), but only when I have company. I don't like all that much.

I do also play all my games on 'Hard'. not so much for bragging right; but just to make the game last longer. I mostly play games to see the ending, once I've seen it I never return back to play the game again.

Whatever, I don't know what to say. I guess I screwed up a thread. For the final time, I've got nothing else to say on the matter. I enjoy shooters, I buy shooters, and I play shooters. I'm not going anywhere, so maybe next time you guys can aim your aggression at the bootleggers that plague the scene. My goal wasn't to derail the thread, just defend the offenses made towards myself. Put yourself in my shoes, where else would you have brought up the subject of difficulty level for DDP? The thread made NO MENTION of what difficulty you guys were playing on. Yeah, I was joking around in an arrogant manner about how I play on very hard, but you guys responded like rabid step-mother's. Your hatred towards me for playing on very hard derailed the thread as much as my bringing up the subject in the first place. If you attack me, don't expect that I'm not going to answer to the comment. That's what derailed the thread. The user here named "Arrogant Bastard" summed up the situation very well, and I was willing to let bygones be bygones. That's it. People kept talking shit, so I kept on returning the favor. I'm sorry once again (to the people that deserve my apology). If you don't like me here you might as well just ignore me. I'm here to stay.

Peace.
