Knew I would end up in this forum. Polished off one keg of my double homewrecker ale (it's name is fitting) and kegged double homewrecker 2 which seems to have fermented out quite a bit more. All it's sweetness has turned into fucking alcohol, so I'm pretty wasted at this point. Third glass of my double homewrecker (stupid out of control version of double bastard), got a huge pot of chile con carne cooking on the stove, listening to my I-Pod on random: currently Coleman's science fiction sessions which are so much better than anyone ever really talks about (I think coleman's best work.) Sometimes everything comes together in an amazing way; tonight's the night.

Learned that Kraken Black Rum should NOT be drunk straight in quantities greater than 6 shots at a time (ooooooh the pain)!

Sailor Jerry's is soooo much easier on the system...and only like 2% less alcohol....I think it's the molasses in Kraken but DAMN did I hurt the next day.....

Anyway, Thursday had the rare opportunity to drink as much as I wanted at a fucking awesome pub (Samuel Horne's in Sacramento (actually Folsom, but jesus), since I had ride provided, and was going straight from there to the airport. Enjoyed some rare Lagunitas beers (Waldos, Paradime?) and an amazing barleywine ale (John Barleycorn Barleywine--aged 2 years.) Made the jaunt back to LA a pleasant fuzzy one.

Kegged a beer today for my friend's wedding and am doing one of those lateral beer tastings of three different bocks (all of which are pretty lousy.) Gotta learn by beer judging terminology since I'm doing my first judging on thursday.

Tequila (prefer Patron Reposado or better)
Scotch (Highland Park for taste/affordability...would love suggestions)
Rum (Sailor Jerry's Spiced Navy Rum!)
Amaretto (Disarrono of course)

Can tolerate vodka too (Russian Standard) and the occasional liqueur (vanilla schnapps comes to mind).

I've probably said this a dozen times in this thread, but I really prefer the smokey, peat flavor in a scotch. On the cheap, Laphroig is a good starting point. If the entry-level laphroig is too smokey for you, you probably want to explore some of the other branches of scotch (take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_whisky) Personally my favorites are some of the entries by Ardbeg, particularly their Uigeadail. Scotch (Highland Park for taste/affordability...would love suggestions)

Best scotch ever made: Lagavulin.

Although, it's rather expensive and is the most peaty (peatiest?) scotch I've tasted, so it's certainly not for everyone. Very smoky, too.

A much more approachable (and affordable) scotch that I'd suggest would be The Glenlivet 12 yr. It's fairly light and fruity, on the opposite end of the spectrum from Lagavulin.

Edit: CMoon, I didn't even see your post. Sounds like you'd like Lagavulin for sure!
