Congratulations, I'm sure you'll easily break 2 billions soon.

How do you like stage 5 (TLB)?
I find this boss amazing - very fair and lots of beautiful bullet patterns.
That he's easier than the stage 4 boss is a little strange though :?

Well I didn't get to see much from him in the game so far, just in the video. But as far as I can tell the patterns really are as beautiful (if not more) as in the whole game. I'm glad already that the first save spot is easy to reach with your starting point. The stage 4 boss is hard enough I'd say (yesterday I just beat him with lots of extra lives approaching him), but it's really a bit weird if the TLB is easier.

Battletoad - 1,858,068,000 - Stage 5 - EHH - 79

Died with 2 bombs in stock... and so stupidly on not even dangerous patterns before the first laser beam even hit the screen. Additionally, I still do something wrong with my multiplier in stage 4. No unintended thunder attack this time, maybe I just did the last one too early. But somehow I feel almost comfortable with the stage 4 boss now. I did astoundingly well against him though who knows if that's not completely different again tomorrow.
Also broke 400 million in stage 1 and x81 multiplier in another run.

Fun fact: In another try I credit fed and reached the true last boss on my first continue! How did this even happen?

Battletoad - 1,907,493,000 - Stage 5 - EHH - 89

A small step for the score, but a big one for the multiplier. :)
I also no missed the first three stages for the first time in a while. But stage 4 was really bad, just beat the boss with no lives or bombs left and half a second before a bullet would have most certainly hit me. The scoring was great though, I just died on the last blockade of ships, thus missed an important bullet slash and had to bomb. Well, still a lot of work to do.

EDIT: Slightly better score with same multiplier.

abschüssig - 2,504,373,000 - ALL - EHH – 90

99% of the WR :D

This run was actually rather bad, I had already lost two lives when I reached stage 4 boss.
But I discovered some new strategies and with these it is theoretically possible to beat the world record.
Sadly they are too hard to execute reliably for me :(

Congrats, badass score! I'd love to see you break the world record, but as you say, it would be tremendously difficult to get everything together in one run. But don't give up now. :)

Do x91 :D
Is that actually possible? :P
I'm still trying some different timings for the last slash in stage 4, but I haven't got 90 yet.

and on topic:

Battletoad - 1,986,228,000 - Stage 5 - EHH - 89

Almost 2 billions and almost 1CC. Well at least I got the last part of the final boss down to less then half of his lifebar. If I just improved my survival, I could use suicides to get more score, but the 1CC would be even harder then. ;)
I had some luck in stage 5, especially on the 2nd part of it. Still need a lot of practice.

There are several smaller things in several levels, but the biggest (and hardest) thing is this:
Remember the two big ship barriers across the whole screen towards the end of stage 4?
Usually you can destroy two of the ships (like you did in your replay) to release bullets to reflect.
With the right timing, you can destroy three of them!
The reflection gives around 15 millions more (each time!) than if you only destroy two ships.
In one run where I managed to do this at just one of the ship barriers, I arrived at the stage 4 boss with 1,990 billions.
But like I said, this is really, really hard and I'm not even trying it any more.

I still did not find the safe spot of the green pattern of the first form of the stage 4 boss you talked about.
This is the only place in the game where I always have to bomb for survival (like you also did in your replay).
Can you tell me where the safe spot is?
Oh, and please give me some competition

Save a replay please! Maybe a replay yours would give any idea about new strategies.

Seriously I can remember nothing about my strategies in this game even the right places to slash. My last run was my replay. And I lose my replay when my notebook was fucked. If I start play this now I will start from nothing just like last year.
I guess now I can't beat your score I can only reduce the differences.
Let's do this then: let finish my SnS way then I will research about the safe spot to you

Yes, as others have suggested, don't give up. This is a really good score and to be so close to the WR is a great accomplishment. Well done and best of success going forward.

Well, guys, I'm still having a hard time believing this myself, but it's true:

abschüssig - 2,534,533,000 - ALL - EHH – 90

NEW WORLD RECORD!!!

8)

The run still had several mistakes, especially at the stage 4 boss.
It's recorded and will be uploaded to youtube shortly. :D

Thank you all again for your encouragement!
And I can only repeat myself:
The biggest THANK YOU goes to you, third_strike !
Without your replay and some of your strategies, this score would not have been possible at all.

I don't know what to say anymore. That's insane and nearly unbelievable indeed! I know my congratulations might get old, but once again I can just take off my hat to you! This is quite a legendary moment, too... I can't think of another western player who has done a world record in a shmup. Might be my lack of knowledge in that regard, but probably rather the lack western WRs.

I'm SO looking forward to that video. :D

CONGRATURATIONS!

It is the first world record done by a western player for a game that Arcadia keeps track of.

The first!

It's just too awesome that it's recorded aswell!! :D

Stage 3 was really awesome!

Could you maybe upload the replay as one file to megaupload or something? Such an awesome feat doesn't belong to youtube.

Yep awesome replay! Super aggressive play to the max. I'm amazed at how it worked out even without destroying 3 ships at once in stage 4 and with some obvious mistakes because the whole rest was played so well. Some very intense moments, too, like the second to last slash on the stage 1 boss or the second part of the stage 3 boss where you just barely got out of it. ;)

Just one small annotation... In stage 2 at 1:08, don't you think letting the popcorn enemies alive a little longer would be worthy, so that you can slash a few more bullets? And yeah I know this is just peanuts.

On a funny and interesting sidenote: Yesterday night I got a x91 multiplier! I first though it was because I still use a bomb on the stage 4 midboss, but as I see you didn't defeat him slower, even with x59 (me with x58). I think I did the last thunder attack slightly later than you which probably made the difference. You could say this run was destined to break the 2 billion mark, but many horrible deaths in stage 4 ruined it.

Thank you all for your kind words!
Yesterday night I got a x91 multiplier!
 This means that the max possible score is a lot higher than I thought.

Yes, there are quite a few lucky moments in my run.
Even the two accidental deaths at the stage 4 boss didn't affect the end score very much.
I also didn't get the max multiplier in stage 3 (x43), and several reflections throughout the game were not as high as possible.

Considering all of this, I think that the previous world record holder did not know about the x90/x91 multiplier (or the max multiplier in one or more of the other stages).
With all the strategies we now know of, a score close to 2.6 billions should be possible for someone of the top japanese players' caliber.
Could you maybe upload the replay as one file
My slow internet connection and a computer that regularly breaks down make this difficult, but I'll try to find a way to do it.

I started at consider this after my 2,4, the points was coming really easy even after I do lots of shit.

It's been a long time since my last scorepost, but now I finally got it!

Battletoad - 2,049,007,000 - Stage 5 - EHH - 90

2 misses on stage 3.
I'm very happy already for what I've got, but I won't stop yet being so close to the ALL. There's still some scoring potential, but I think I'll just quit after the 1CC. Too many deaths lately due to the godawful PS2 pad. Need to get a better alternative.
